What is Class 3?Class 3 apparel is intended for workers who are exposed to traffic traveling over 50 mph and requiring the highest level of visibility. These worker have high task loads and need to be visible throughout a full range of body motions.

Required For Workers who:• have high task loads that often divert their attention• are exposed to significantly reduced sight-distances• are clearly placed in danger• must be conspicuous through a full range of body motions at a minimum of 1280 feet and must be identifiable as a person

The ANSI Standard:The ANSI (American National Standards Institute is a private, non-profit organization that promotes stan-

dards for industry and government. The ANSI/ISEA 107-2010 is now the approved 107 Standard on High Visibility Apparel offering garment categories of Performance Classes. These Classes are based on worker hazards and tasks, the job site’s complex background and vehicular traffic and speed. While the require-ments for reflective apparel remains largely unchanged from the second edition (ANSI/ISEA 107-2004), there is a new requirement that now includes a minimum amount of retro reflective material in the shoulder area. The new standard does not make any changes to the amount of background or reflective material required for the performance classes. Our clothing has and will continue to meet these requirements while we change our labeling and certification procedures to conform to the ANSI/ISEA 107-2010 standard.

There are also other changes which include clarification on definitions of waterproof, water resistant and water repellent and significant new labeling and test requirements for flame resistant garments. We will continue to move forward on all the changes and incorporate these into our garments. Printed copies of the official ANSI/ISEA 107-2010 standard are available at www.safetyequipment.org.
