the invocation?o
Reverend Mccoyz eBefore I give the invocation, Kike asked me Just
to touch on Sam Shapiro who died Monda?. And Just reading
about him, how he has touched the Iife of both oemocrat and
Republican - you know. there is a Bible scripture in
Genesis that a man lived to be 969 yearsv and that man's
name was Methuselah. Herev Sam Shapiro *as the Governor of
this state Just for seven months. And it isnet how long
you live. It isn#t the quantity of life, but it*s the
quality of life that you livev and it seemed like that Sam
Shapiro had that type of life that God gave him; that he
was a humble man; that he was a Ioving man; that he was a
kind man. And one of the poems that I love so much is a
poem by Rudyard Kipling it says that, #ou can walk witb
kings and never lose the human touch. Kindness is one of
the attributes of love and certainly when a person has
lovem he certainlp has to be kind. And soT we pray to God
tbat his soul will rest in peace and tbank God that he
walked by this wa#. And some of those who are vounger ones
out here in the House. some of ?ou who are Mounger ones,
that #ou wilt pick up... pick up the mantle that he
dropped. Let it fall on you that you who have given your
life to serve în the Legislature that you will be the kind
of person that he was. That if even #ou serve one term, it
won't be tNe quantit: that Fou will servev but it will be
the quality tbat #ou will serve. Let us bow our heads in a
