 The Arnewood School Sixth Form Charter   

  

Welcome to the Arnewood School Sixth Form. We believe that you made an excellent decision to complete your post‐16 education here. 

 A number of people at Arnewood have specific responsibility for supporting you throughout your time in the Sixth Form. These include: your personal tutor; subject teachers, Deputy Head of Sixth Form and the 

Director of Post‐16 Learning (Mr Colman)  

 The Arnewood School Sixth Form will:                    

Deliver well prepared lessons in an environment conducive to academic progress  

Have assignments and assessments regularly set and marked  

Give you regular, structured guidance on how to improve your grades  

Support you in your academic, personal and social development through regular individual tutorials with your personal tutor 

 

Produce a formal written report and formal verbal report of your academic progress to be made to your parents/carers 

 

Provide you with information, advice and guidance on the higher education application process and individual support in applying for a university place or apprenticeship 

 

Deliver a programme through life skills and tutorial sessions about current affairs and social issues specifically relevant to students of your age in preparation for adult life 

 

Give you the opportunity to benefit from a range of social, cultural and sports opportunities.

As a student, it is your responsibility to:  

Respect others and their property at all times 

 

Attend all lessons and tutorials scheduled on your timetable on time and be ready in all regards to participate fully in the learning 

 

Contribute to the maintenance of an environment conducive to effective learning and academic progress  

Look after your working environment and common rooms  

Complete the assignments and assessments set you to the best of your ability and to submit them on time 

  Attend group and individual tutorials on time and appropriately prepared to gain most benefit from them   

 

Comply with the published Sixth Form dress code   

Conduct yourself at all times in a manner appropriate to that of a senior member of a respected Sixth Form to which you have applied to belong  

 

Independent study programme:  

Alongside your timetabled lessons, you will have independent study time this is to be used maturely, effectively and appropriately. Suggested activities include but are not limited to: completing an online course, reading around your chosen subjects using textbooks, homework, creating revision notes and completing assignments set within lesson. 

  

If you do not have a full‐time study programme then you will be required to complete a non‐qualification enrichment activity during your independent lessons to support your learning.

As a role model to our lower school students, it is an expectation that you dress appropriately. The sixth form general principle is dress for the office.

Your aim is to have 100% attendance this will give you the best possible chance of exceeding your target grade.

Organising Work Experience  

• It will be your individual responsibility to find the placement. 

• Tutorial sessions will be there to support you in finding a placement. 

• Sixth form have a directory of over 300 local employers who have offered work experience in the 

past. 

• Your subject teachers have excellent knowledge of careers in their field.  Use them!  

• Contacting employers by letter/email/telephone  

• Once the placement has been confirmed your employer will need to complete a yellow 

agreement form. 

• This not an opportunity to extend your part time hours at the job you currently do. 

 

Work experience is only as meaningful as the placement itself!
