for us the living, rather,to be dedicated here tothe unfinished work

which they who foughthere have thus far sonobly advanced. It israther for us to be herededicated to the great

task remaining beforeusthat from these hon-ored dead we take in-creased devotion to thatcause for which theygave the last full meas-ure of devotionthat wehere highly resolve thatthese dead shall nothave died in vainthatthis nation, under God,shall have a new birth offreedomand that gov-

ernment of the people,by the people, for thepeople, shall not perishfrom the earth.

    By A. Lincoln

Well we had a meeting inOctober. I never receivedthe notes or report so wehave this blank space. For

your enjoyment I will re-cite the Gettysburg Ad-

    dress:

Four score and sevenyears ago our fathersbrought forth on thiscontinent a new nation, conceived in liberty, anddedicated to the propo-sition that all men arecreated equal.

Now we are engaged in agreat civil war, testing

whether that nation, orany nation, so conceivedand so dedicated, canlong endure. We are met

on a great battle-field ofthat war. We have cometo dedicate a portion ofthat field, as a final rest-ing place for those whohere gave their lives thatthat nation might live. Itis altogether fitting and

    proper that we shoulddo this.

But, in a larger sense, wecan not dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannot hallow this ground. The brave men, livingand dead, who struggledhere, have consecratedit, far above our poorpower to add or detract. The world will little

note, nor long remem-ber what we say here, but it can never forgetwhat they did here. It is

    Wow, Christmas time is

    here already. Our party is

    booked for Tuesday De-

    cember 18th at 6:00 pm

    at the Golden Corral in

    Loveland. It is located at

    1360 Sculptor Drive,

    Loveland and their

    phone number is: (970)461-3000.

    November is also Officer

    Election month, and the

last month to bring a kit

    for the Show and Tell.

So, if we stick to trends all

    of the current officers will

    be re-elected.

I would run for Presidentbut, like Mitt Romney, I

    never seem to get enough

votes. I figure why risk it

    and hurt my own feelings.

Besides I have it on good

    authority that the club

    would rather go under

than let me lead. Ha ha!!

    By Jeff Brown

    (Editor)

    Every month I put to-

    gether the newsletter, and

    usually only Pablo and I

    write the articles. George

    will occasionally send in a

    build that he puts to-

    gether, but for the most

part it is just the two of us

    who write articles.

So I get e-mails time to

    time requesting certain

    topics to be covered.

    These usually come from

    guys in other IPMS clubs

who like my sense of hu-

mor and think I can do

    justice to this crazy game

    we call model building.

    Wait, did he just call

    model building a (gasp)

    GAME? Well, competitive

    model building which is

what many if not most of

us do, is more like a game

    than a hobby.

So what is a hobby? Well

    according to my diction-

ary a hobby is defined as

    an activity or interest

    pursued for pleasure and

not as an occupation. It is

    also a migratory old

    world falcon. (Thus the F-

    16 theme for this month.)

Is what we do a hobby? I

    guess sometimes working

on a model relaxes us, but

most of the time it is frus-

    trating. Small photo

    etched parts that dont go

    on right. Pieces that the

    carpet eats. Paint that

    orange peels. Clear coats

    that dont go on smooth.

    Decals that silver. Decals

    that crack, decals that

    wont lay down no matter

    how much softener you

use. A seam that wont go

    away no matter how

many times the puttygoes on. A seam that goes

    away and takes other de-

    tail with it.

    Do these problems sound

    relaxing to you?

So what is a game? Well a

game, once again accord-ing to the dictionary, is an

    activity which provides

    entertainment or amuse-

ment. It is also a competi-

    tive activity or sport

    which players contend

    with each other according

    to a set of rules.

    Hmmm. That sounds

more like what most of us

do. I hear grumblings, buthow many times have you

    abandoned a model on

    the workbench because

    something went wrong?

    How many of you car

    builders sand and polish

    and sand again and again

    to get the surface just

    right? How many of you

    plane builders make sure

    the center seam is gone

    (except on a 109) and

    make sure the barrels are

drilled and the wings areeven? Armor guys (while

    there is more room to

    hide flaws with dirt and

    mud and stowage) still

    have to make sure the

    wheels are all aligned and

    the tracks are even. Wait

is that a seam on the bar-

    rel? Youre out!

Okay, so here is the point

of my ramblings, if youenter contests, and build

    for contests, this is a

    game. If however you slap

    models together to hide

    in your room and stay

    away from the wife and

kids then maybe it is a

    hobby.

If this were just a hobby I

    would finish my Spitfire.

    My poor Spitfire.

    The most

    pleasant sur-

    prise of this

    book is the in-

    clusion of non-

    paragraph.

Among different squadronsand wings features in thebook are the weapons schoolat Nellis, Nevada; the Ag-

gressor squadrons including those beautifulArctic camouflaged Vipers-,the 56th Fighter Wing atLuke, Arizona and sometraining squadrons fromdifferent Air NationalGuards wings.

The most pleasant surpriseof this book is the inclusionof non-USAF training F-16s,like the ones from Nether-lands, United Emirate Arab, etc. Pilots and ground per-sonnel from those air forcesreceive training with theUSAF. Their respective air

forces have airplanes de-ployed in the US for train-ing. Interestingly enough

    By Pablo Bauleo

This book covers the F-16used as a platforms forweapon testing, flight train-ing and for adversary train-

ing. The book covers differ-ent wings and squadrons, including details of the sylla-bus that pilots undertake aspart of their training or theday-to-day operations ofdifferent weapon test units.Be aware that not every pic-ture has a caption, butrather a group of picturesdepict different aspects de-scribed in an accompanying

some of those airplanes dis-play their country nationalmarkings, while havingUSAF tail numbers. Thatmakes those airframes veryunique and incredible

    tempting for the modeler.

I have to say that seeing al-most 400 full color picturesof those Vipers is inspira-tional. This book is an excel-lent reference resource. Rec-ommended to modelers andaviation aficionados.

I would like to thank ReidAir Publishing for the reviewsample.
