DanaStrip can be ordered according to standard groove dimensions (G-numbers) or according to actual product dimensions (S-numbers). Please see order examples on next page. The load applied to either the rod or the piston determines the width of the DanaSlide. The dynamic load factor is determined by the application temperature according to the following guidelines:
Calculation of Strip width:
Dynamic load related to temp.
* 12N/mm2 at 90o C = 2,5
* 15N/mm2 at 60o C = 0
* 20N/mm2 at 30o C = 0
T = Fdia x dyn. load
T = 20.000 Nø50 x 15N/mm2

DanaStrip – Wear Rings
Piston & Rod DanaStrip ordered to actual size (S-numbers):
If ordered according to S155-250-0151-29-D1; the code ttt is actual width of DanaStrip. T=25,0
The cut lenght of the strip is adopted to absorb the length variation during operation where the heat will expand the Strip. Each bore and rod dimension has its own-engineered length according to the following:
Length calculation for Piston diameter (ØA): Length calculation for Rod diameter (ØB):
xxxx=3,11*(ØA-w)-k xxxx=3,11*(ØB+w)-kk=2,0 (operating temperature >90oc) k=2,0 (operating temperature >90oc)k=0,0 (operating temperature 60oc to 90oc) k=0,0 (operating temperature 60oc to 90oc)

Surface Finish information
Overview of RecommendationsSurface finish quality impacts dynamic seal reliability and service life. Many different types of coating surfaces can be utilized for sealing applications. Additionally, various methods and equipment can be used to achieve satisfactory surface finishes. Most current specifications require only Ra, surface rough-ness, typically between (0.2 – 0.4 μm). This requirement has served the industry well for many decades, primarily due to established coating and finishing techniques.Today with many new materials, coatings, and finishing techniques, additional surface profile parameters need to be specified to insure acceptable performance and long seal life.
Below are the surface finish recommendations of Dana-Seals A/S:
Ra max (0.2 μm) Rz max (1.25 μm)Rp max (0.63 μm)Tp = 50 – 90% at depth of p= 0.25 Rzrelative to the line c=5% Tp
Rougher or smoother surfaces may be adequate since all application requirements vary greatly, but these values are preferred based on our testing and experience. Surface finishing techniques, which leave high peaks should be avoided. A turning or grinding process which leaves high peaks should be followed with a secondary finishing process such as honing, polishing or superfinishing, which removes these peeks and leaves valleys intact to provide adequate seal lubrication. Elastomeric-type seals require slightly more lubrication and care to be taken to avoid surfaces below 4 Ra and bearing ratio’s greater than listed above.
Definition of TermsRa – Arithmetic Average Roughness. While Ra or average roughness is the industry’s most widely used parameter, it alone is not an adequate description of sealing surface. It is the arithmetic average height of roughness component irregularities from the mean line measured within the sampling length (L).
Rz – Ten Point Height. Often called “ten-point height,” is the average distance between the five highest peaks and the five deepest valleys within the sampling length (L), measured from a line parallel to the mean line but not crossing the roughness profile.
Rp – Simply the peak height over the sample length.
Tp – Bearing Length Ratio. Simulates wear at various cutting depths of a surface. It is the most use-ful whenever bearing surfaces must be analyzed and qualified for lubrication and wear properties. It is obtained by establishing a reference line (s, the slice level) parallel to the mean line at a predetermined distance (c, cutting depth) from the profile’s highest peak. The line intersects the profile, generating one or more subtended lengths. Tp is the ratio, expressed as a percent, of the sum of these subtended lengths to the sampling line (L).
