HOW DO I APPLY FOR GENESIS? Go to: http://bit.ly/SHHSGENESIS or SHHS website link

Take a few moments and fill out the questions on-line, and collect references

(see attached page). Applications are reviewed by an in- school team and in-

terviews are arranged for all eligible applicants. There is a course fee of $150

for GENESIS to pay for trips.

Participants are responsible for food purchases during excursions.

No student is denied the opportunity to take GENESIS due to financial

reasons.

What would a GENESIS semester look like?

Students in the GENESIS program enter into a multi-credit program. Students will work with a group of peers in specific

disciplines. Outdoor Experiential Education and Innovation will be the hallmarks of this program. Students will travel

extensively on bicycles to various locales, camp in various parks and portage to remote lakes to discover untouched

natural areas. If you are a determined, self directed, flexible learner, then the GENESIS program offers you a new and

unique way to learn.

Days will be filled with experiences that seek to expose students to the complexities and fragility of our natural world.

Students will learn about the importance of being environmental stewards.

Extensive research will be conducted in traditional (books, internet, interviews) and non-traditional formats (experiential

field trips). Students will develop innovation based strategies from their research to mitigate or reduce human impact on

our natural world. Opportunities to share this research will be afforded to students at the school, community and

Provincial agencies level. Cooperative education will involve students working as a collective on stewardship projects.

Opportunities will be presented for working with community and Provincial partners on projects that seek to edu-

cate and promote sustainable living. Leadership opportunities will involve students leading seminars, discussions

and learning modules with elementary aged learners from local schools.

students working on their chosen summative project and outstanding assignments. It is a good time to

reflect on what they learned throughout the semester and consider the goals for the future here at the
