INFORMATION PACK SHOW SYNOPSIS Disney Channel's smash hit movie musical comes to life on your stage! Troy, Gabriella and the students of East High must deal with issues of first love, friends and family while balancing their classes and extracurricular activities. It's the first day after winter break at East High. The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes find their cliques, recount their vacations and look forward to the new year. Basketball team captain and resident jock, Troy, discovers that the brainy Gabriella, a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, has just enrolled at East High. They cause an upheaval when they decide to audition for the high school musical that is being led by Ms. Darbus. Although many students resent the threat posed to the "status quo," Troy and Gabriella's alliance might just open the door for others to shine as well. Its large cast size and upbeat numbers make it the ideal show for middle and high school productions or the highlight of any community theatre's season! Ensure you arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your allocated audition time. The ProductionTeam will not wait for late auditionees. If you are running late contact us immediately on0400 122 533 so we can make alternate arrangements.

Video Auditions will be accepted for this production and must be submitted before Middayon Sunday 11th July 2021. Please email us for the required choreography!

Show Dates

The High School Musical Season will be limited to a one week show season with ProductionWeek commencing 19th September 2021, with the final show 26th September 2021.

High School Musical will be staged at the Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre, CambewarraRoad Bomaderry. This venue seats over 700 people, and was the venue where TPAChosted their successful season of Disney’s Moana Jr earlier in the year.

Age Restrictions

Auditionees must be 13 years or older in 2021. Written parental consent is required for allauditionees under the age of 18.

Please be advised that most of the characters in High School Musical depict teenagers.However, due to the style of the show and its vocal demands we anticipate that peopleolder than teenagers will audition, the casting panel will make the call to best paircouples.

Costs Involved

Being cast in High School Musical will involve a production cost of $75 to cover the individualcosts associated with the production such as; TPAC Membership, Insurance, ProductionLiterature and a Cast T Shirt. This is expected to be paid by week 6 of the rehearsal period.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are planned to commence Wednesday 14th July 2021. Rehearsals willtake place at TPAC HQ, Shop 4, 73 Meroo Street Bomaderry.

A detailed rehearsal schedule will be published in advance to the successful cast.Please note the rehearsal schedule is subject to change.

The regular rehearsal times are:● Wednesday 6.30pm - 10pm● Saturday 1.30pm - 6pm

Tardiness is not accepted for rehearsals please ensure you can make the scheduled times.NB: rehearsals will run over time closer to production.

All cast will be required to attend all scheduled rehearsals (dates below). Please honestlyand openly discuss any concerns with your availability for these rehearsals with theProduction Team as there may be an alternative option.If required additional rehearsals will be negotiated with the successful cast.

If you anticipate absences during the rehearsal period, please be honest about this on theaudition form.

Production week and performance dates

All rehearsals during production week and shows are mandatory for all cast and crew. This isnot negotiable.

Please consider your availability for rehearsals and the performance season prior toauditioning to avoid disappointment.

Note: All missed rehearsals must be discussed with the Production Team. If you missrehearsals without prior notice and explanation, the Production Team have the right toreconsider your role in the production.

The Production Team understands that you may experience nervousness, anxiety or theself-assumption that you do not have enough ‘experience’ to be cast in High School Musical.

Regardless of prior musical theatre experience, everyone is welcome, and we stronglyencourage all who are interested to come along and audition.

When and how will you find out if you are successful?

We will notify you as soon as possible of the outcome of your audition whether you aresuccessful or unsuccessful. Please ensure that the contact details you provide on youraudition form are correct.

Successful auditionees will be contacted by telephone. Unsuccessful auditionees may benotified of the outcome by email. No feedback will be provided for auditions.

AUDITION FORMAT

Important information regarding auditions: with the current Stay At Home/Lockdowndue to cease for the Wollongong/Shellharbour LGA on 9th July 2021.All auditionees will be required to book an audition time, as per normal. In the event thatthe Health Order is extended, all auditionees must be prepared to submit a videoaudition to the panel. The panel will still make contact with the auditionee viaFacetime/Zoom in the proposed audition time to have the “pre-audition discussion”.

Masks must be worn at all times while at auditions, except for when you are singing.

Audition Groups are booking in one hour sessions. You will be allocated a 15-minuteindividual audition slot in that time and a partake in a group dance audition.(see below for more details).

A photograph will be taken of you and the panel may record your audition. All photographsand recordings will only be used in considering the casting of the show.

Lead Characters: You are required to sing a song from the character you are auditioninge.g. if you are auditioning for Sharpay or Ryan, you may choose to sing ‘Bop to the Top’.

Ensemble: please pick a contemporary song that demonstrates your vocal range andability. This should be a song that you know well and can perform off by heart. A song inthe style of the show (e.g. musical theatre) is encouraged.

Please bring a backing track on a USB to your audition, there should be no vocals onthe track. Please do not sing unaccompanied.

Please be aware that each audition is time limited and therefore we may ask you to stopbefore finishing your entire song – this has nothing to do with the quality of your audition.Please only prepare a maximum of 2:30 of a song.

If you are asked to “cold read” you will read with our team who will work with you to giveyou the best chance to demonstrate your acting range and ability. You might be asked tore-perform the scene in a different way. Please use a standard American accent unlesswe ask you otherwise.

Dance WorkshopThe dance aspect of auditions for High School Musical will require auditionees to learn ashort routine. This MUST be prepared prior to the auditions. A video will be madeavailable to auditionees for this purpose. You may choose to learn either theBEGINNERS CHOREOGRAPHY OR the ADVANCED CHOREOGRAPHY. Duringauditions, you will be required to perform the routine in a small group with otherauditionees.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The choreography will not be taught on the day. It is important thatyou learn the choreography before your audition so that you are comfortable with themovement and give yourself the best chance to showcase your abilities to the auditionpanel.

It is strongly suggested that you learn the ADVANCED CHOREOGRAPHY if you areauditioning for a role in the lead cast.

It is mandatory that you learn the ADVANCED CHOREOGRAPHY if you are auditioningfor a role in the dance ensemble.

High School Musical has a lot of movement and therefore all auditionees will berequired to complete this component to demonstrate your ability.

What are we looking for?

High School Musical is an exciting, fun and high energy show and it needs a cast tomatch. We are looking for:

Versatility in acting range, with the ability to play more than one character, includingcharacters of contrasting ages, strong singers, dancers, committed people and those with agood attitude.
