Highest Attendance

Congratulations to 2C for having the highest attendance this week at 100%. The class received a certificate in assembly today.

Winter Wonderland

Last Saturday saw the delights of Winter Wonderland arrive at St Mary’s and what a wonderful day it was. My thanks to the army of volunteers who set up, ran the event and cleared away. Without you all this event could not be run.

A special thanks to the PTA for their tireless enthusiasm, good humour and determination to make a difference to our children. Your support is truly humbling and awe inspiring.

The Wallace Collection

Our instrumentalists are going from strength to strength with their trumpet playing. From complete novices three weeks ago, they have already progressed so far in their abilities and it is a delight to witness the learning curve they are on – if only my curve was as steep! They had the opportunity to see and play instruments over 9000 years old today as well as learning about the origins of some of those (including a thigh bone!) and how these early societies perfected their playing.

Pantomime

The whole school went to see Beauty and the Beast at the Queen’s Theatre on Wednesday and had a blast! Thank you to all the volunteers who helped escort us to the theatre.

Campion Day Cross-Country

Mr Gosnell took a team of sixteen athletes over to Pages Wood for the annual Campion Day run. Our team did brilliantly with our pupils filling many of the top twenty finishing positions. Well done to all our runners and thank you to Mr Gosnell for practising with our running club in preparation for the day.

Imperial Bird of Prey Academy

This week Year 2 were very lucky and we had some owls come to visit, from 'The Imperial Birds of Prey Academy' in Barleylands. The children were so excited during the build-up and couldn’t wait to meet them. The children were engaged in the talk, where they learned interesting facts about different types of owls that came to visit. The highlight for the children was having the opportunity to hold an owl, they have been talking about it all week! Thank you for your support as the children wouldn’t have been able to have an amazing experience like this without it.

Hornchurch Country Park

On Tuesday, Year 5 visited Hornchurch Country Park as part of their local area study. The children created 3D art from the natural resources and walked through the park looking at it’s link to the airfield during WWII, to the highest point of Havering, to study the impressive skyline. We were able to use our i-pads to photograph some of their memories.

Mass Before School

Please make an effort to attend mass before school one day during the week. It is a terrific start to your day.

End of Term Closure

Please be aware that the school will close at 1:15pm on Wednesday 20th December 2017. Thank you.

Pool Parties Pool party dates for the new year are as follows: 13th January, 10th February, 10th March. Please book with Mrs Lilley via the School Office.

Music Lessons

We have spaces available for music lessons this term in Keyboard, Guitar, Woodwind, Brass and

Tin Whistle. Please contact the office for further information.

Safeguarding at St Mary’s

As you know, safeguarding is everyone’s duty and schools have a responsibility to promote and protect the welfare of our children. If you have a concern regarding the safety of any child please speak immediately to a member of our school safeguarding team. Any discussions are treated in confidence. The Designated Safeguarding Team at St Mary’s includes Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) - Mr Leech, and Deputy Leads - Mrs D’Souza and Mrs Robinson (EYFS). Mrs Dolores Evans is the Safeguarding Governor and is contactable via the school office. Concerns can also be reported directly to the Havering child protection team – 01708 433222 (9am-5pm) or 01708 433999 (Out of Hours/Weekends) – or to the NSPCC – 0808 800 5000 (24/7).
