Highland Park West Balcones Area Neighborhood Association Newsletter - February 2008 Volume 4, Number 2 February 2008 www.hpwbana.org The HPWBANA News Message from the Board For several months, your Highland Park West Balcones Area Neighborhood Association (HPWBANA) has been building a network of neighbors for information sharing purposes. Through this network, neighbors can communicate regarding crime, emergency information, and other important neighborhood issues. On March 3, HPWBANA will hold a Safety Meeting at the Yarbrough library. The goal of this meeting is to build this network of neighbors. Safety Meeting Yarbrough Library March 3 7:00 p.m. We are looking for as many people as possible to attend the meeting, share their email address with HPWBANA, and possibly volunteer to help disseminate information to your street or area. If your street or area is already linked via email, please contact me, or plan to attend this important meeting. If you are new to the neighborhood and would like a good reason to get to know your neighbors, please contact me, or plan to attend the meeting on March 3. Do not assume that one of your neighbors will follow through on this request! Please take the initiative to get your street linked! APD Officers will be on hand to discuss the Neighborhood Watch Program and offer their insights to crime prevention. Hope to see you there! Carolyn Robinson 750-4072 [email protected] Keeping HPWBANA Cool: An Update In the December newsletter an article appeared about the little yellow flags showing up in yards around the neighborhood. The effort, part of the City’s Urban Heat Island Mitigation initiative, aimed to plant trees along public rights of way to increase shading in neighborhoods and reduce energy bills while beautifying the community. This project already appears to be underway. Some of our neighbors are already starting to see the young trees in their yards. In fact, one neighbor mentioned that one home has about 6 new trees! So…. if you found one of those yellow flags and haven’t done anything about it, call 443-5323 for more information. Thanks City of Austin for keeping HPWBANA cool! Don't want to wait for the mail?
