HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE WEEK!
Wednesday - 18 September – 9.30 am
CRIBBAGE FOR BEGINNERS
Are you interested in learning to play this
challenging and addictive card game?
Cribbage is a game of numbers. The basic
game play is very easy to learn, and most
beginners only need one or two sessions to
become familiar with the main aspects of the
game. Once you feel you are reasonably
confident about the game, you can join our
friendly group of enthusiastic players who
meet every Wednesday morning. They will be
only too pleased to help you further to
improve your game skills.
Beginners sessions will start on Wed, 18
Sept, 9.30 am - 11.30 am in Gumnut Cottage.
All will be welcomed. Norm Swanwick
Thursday - 19 September – 9.45 am
SHUTTERBUGS PHOTO BOOK SESSION
Our popular photo book session will be held
once again this year on Thursday
19 September starting at 9.45 am in the
Seniors Centre hall. Fellow Shutterbug
member, Steve Walmsley, will be
demonstrating how to use one of the popular
on-line software programmes to design a
professional looking coffee-table quality book containing your favourite photos. Learn how
to add your photos and then completely
personalise your photo book with text,
embellishments, borders and backgrounds
and then have it printed and delivered by one
of the many service providers. Everyone is
welcome to join us for this
informative session.

55 PLUS FILM GROUP – ROMAN HOLIDAY
Extending our love affair with all things
‘italiano’, this month’s offering is Roman
Holiday, a 1953 American romantic comedy
directed and produced by William Wyler.
Starring Gregory Peck and
Audrey Hepburn, this award
winning film is a modern
fairy tale set in the eternal
city. An oldie but a goodie! As always there
will be the customary ice creams!

Sunday - 22 September – 2.00 pm

What is your favourite board,
tile or card game, e.g.

have a new or unusual game you would like

winning but rather playing for enjoyment and
to socialise. So why not come on Sunday
22 September for a couple of hours and bring
a friend along and introduce them to our Club
- the more the merrier!! Afternoon tea will be

its precincts to snap away. We have a few

Monday - 30 September - 10.30 am
ADVANCE CARE PLANNING
We all know the importance of making a will,
but do you know about an Advance Care Plan
(ACP)?
Advance care planning is about your future
health care. It gives you the opportunity to
plan for what you would want, or not want, if
you become unable to make, or
communicate, your own preferences.
A representative of ACT Health spoke on this
topic to members last month. We are offering
another session on Monday 30 September
commencing at 10.30 am. The session covers
the benefits and the legal implications of an
ACP. The representative will also speak about
having an Enduring Power of Attorney and will
answer your questions on both of these
documents.
As numbers are limited, please register your
interest at the Club office immediately. Further
sessions may be arranged if necessary.

OUT & ABOUT IN OCTOBER
Wednesday – 2 Oct – 10.00 am
TULIP TOP, SUTTON
Spring is here (although still a bit crisp!) and
time to talk ‘Tulips’. We have organised
another trip to the gardens at Sutton. Leaving
at the respectable hour of 10.00 am, from the
Burns Club at Kambah, we will have plenty of
time to enjoy the garden before leaving for
home at 2.00 pm.
Just 20 minutes from Canberra on the
Federal Highway, the 10-acre garden of
magnificent tulips and other spring flowers
creates a spectacular display. Hundreds of
blossom trees nestle between the flowers and
provide a magic pathway to the cascading
waterfall and watercourse.
Food options are available from the Garden
Marquee or the pancake and coffee parlour
set among the tulips, but you can also bring a
picnic to enjoy anywhere in the garden.
Cost: $32.00 (includes transport & garden
entry) – bookings by until Friday 20 Sept.

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING!
FESTITALIA!
Amid the soothing tones of Italian
‘café’ music and the sea of red,
white and green, ‘Tugg Trattoria’
was abuzz last Saturday with conversation
and culinary delights. Antipasti, ragu, pizza,
Italian insalata, garlic bread, tiramisu,
cassata, biscotti and expresso coffee added
to the atmosphere and the flavour of the
afternoon. The weather was crisp but kind
with the sun shining into the colourful hall –
viva Italia - a great way to celebrate the start
of spring and the Club’s 2019’s International
Day! A big thank you to Norm and his tireless
committee and to all who contributed to the
enjoyable social event!
TUGGERANONG TO GUNGAHLIN
Our 'sun dance' must have worked as the
designated day was beautiful, crisp and clear
- perfect for the rescheduled bus and tram
journey. For this ‘freelance’ activity, members
met at the Tuggeranong Bus Interchange,
travelled to Civic by bus, transferring to the
Gungahlin tram. Lunch at the Raiders Club
provided the necessary fuel for the return trip
and everyone had a great time
travelling on Canberra's newest
form of public transport!
