Day 1, Oct 18, Wed • Shanghai – Xian This morning, fly to the ancient Tang dynasty capital of Xian. Upon arrival explore the Shaanxi History Museum and its artifacts spanning many dynasties. Stroll the Muslim Quarters. Chinese Muslim culture traces its heritage from the flourishing Silk Road culture of the Tang dynasty. Evening is at leisure. (b,l)

Day 2, Oct 19, Thur • Xian–Beijing Your second day in Xian begins with a viewing of the extraordinary 2,300-year-old terracotta warriors, in the tomb of China’s first emperor, Qinshihuang. The warriors still stand on the original site of the emperor’s burial complex, where peasants discovered them in 1974. After lunch drive to the airport and visit the nearby Han Emperor’s Tomb, Yangling Museum, to view recent archaeological finds on the excavation site. Fly to Beijing in late afternoon and transfer to your hotel. Enjoy a leisurely evening with dinner on your own. (b,l)

Day 3, Oct 20, Fri • Beijing In the morning enter the gate of the Forbidden City, the abiding symbol of imperial China. Truly one of the great achievements of civilization, its construction employed hundreds of thousands of workers between 1406 and 1420. Marvel at its expansive architecture, magnificent imperial gardens, and many museums of Chinese antiquities and treasures. Enjoy lunch at a local family’s home in the historic Houhai district. Then explore the picturesque area, where well-preserved courtyard homes and narrow hutong alleys border tree-lined lakes. Tour the district by “pedicab” for a closer and more engaging experience of traditional Chinese life. Tour Temple of Heaven, one of the finest creations of the Ming dynasty. This stunning architecture realizes the great Chinese desire to incarnate heaven in material form, and represents the most advanced principles of mechanics and geometry of the time. Tonight, enjoy the Beijing delicacy of Peking Duck at the famous Duck de Chine. (b,l,d)

Day 4, Oct 21, Sat • Beijing Drive northeast to the Great Wall of China. Encounter this extraordinary rampart at Mutianyu, a rugged section of the wall that offers easy access by foot or cable car. As is usually the case, the Great Wall presents a visual experience that dramatically exceeds visitors’ expectations. Construction of a few miles of the wall on such jagged peaks seems near miraculous, but the rampart stretches for 3,700 miles and passes through 16 provinces. Lunch is at Xiaolongpu Restaurantnear the foothill of the Wall. The restaurant is famous for farmers’ fresh produce and unique local cuisine.Return to Beijing in the late afternoon. On the way back to Beijing, visit 798 Art District. Known as the “Soho” of China, the streets are lined with galleries by budding artists and their works.(b,l)

Tour the Humble Administrator’s Garden, with countless pavilions surrounding the tranquil lakes and greenery. Visit IM Pei’s beautiful Suzhou Museum. The museum is a blend of classical Suzhou architecture with contemporary styles. Tour the elegant Lingering Garden with exquisite landscape design. • Accommodations at Suzhou Marriott Hotel (1 night) Day 2, Oct 19, Thur • Suzhou – Hangzhou Tour Lion Grove Garden, the former residence of IM Pei’s ancestors. Ride a boat on the Grand Canal to Tiger Hill, where beautiful bonsai gardens showcase various mature potted plants. Walk the Pingjianglu, the old baby canal lined with old houses, boutique hotels, and galleries.

In the mid-afternoon take a high-speed train to Hangzhou and transfer to your hotel. This evening is at leisure. Dinner is at 7 Longjing Restaurant where you will enjoy authentic Hangzhou cuisine. (b,l,d)

• Accommodations at Shangri-la Hotel by the West Lake (2 nights) Day 3, Oct 20, Fri • Hangzhou In the morning, enjoy a gentle hike up Gushan Hill by the West Lake. Traditional architecture, landscape gardens, pavilions and museums line up the hillside with a bird’s-eye view of the West Lake and Hangzhou City. Visit the beautiful National Silk Museum with exquisite exhibits and handicrafts showcasing the creation and development of the silk. Tour Meijiawu Tea Plantation and meet tea farmers who continue the ancient art of longjing tea cultivation. Enjoy lunch at a tea farmer’s home. Stop at the grand architectural compound of the Qing dynasty merchant, Hu Xueyan. Countless courtyards lead from one to another, culminating in a grand garden with monumental rockery and idyllic pavilions. • Accommodations at Sheraton Four Points (3 nights) After adjusting to the altitude, enjoy an optional walk around Barkhor Street, the marketplace of old Lhasa and still amazingly evocative of old Tibet. The Barkhor is a pilgrim circuit where hundreds of pilgrims on any given day make their ritual circumambulations. It is also a thriving market; and traditional stone-block architecture forms the

(b,l,d) Day 2, Oct 19, Thur • Lhasa A full day of sightseeing includes the Potala Palace, once the seat of government and the winter residence of the Dalai Lama. It yet remains today the abiding symbol of Tibetan Buddhism. The complex comprises the White and Red Palaces situated in the center of Lhasa Valley at an altitude of 3700m. It rises over 13th stories and holds thousands of rooms. Take a short drive to Norbulingka, the Dalai Lama’s former summer residence. Constructed in the 18th century, it is a masterpiece of Tibetan architecture and contains several palaces and chapels. Visit Jokhang Temple, Tibet’s holiest shrine, filled with altars, halls, and galleries. The finest Tibetan art treasures are found here, though some originals were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. (b,l,d) Day 3, Oct 20, Fri • Lhasa In the morning visit Drepung Monastery, the largest monastic complex in Tibet. Located at the foot of Mount Gephel, the monastery is home to approximately 300 monks. After lunch tour Sera Monastery, one of the three great monasteries of the Gelugpa sect and founded in 1416 by a disciple of Tsongkhapa. The great ceremonial hall holds thousands of Tibetan sutras in cubicles along the wall. In the afternoon, hundreds of monks continue to practice the Buddhist dharma, including historic debating rituals. Later in the day, stop by a local Tibetan family. (b,l,d) Day 4, Oct 21, Sat • Lhasa – Chengdu This morning, fly to Chengdu. Check into your hotel for a rest and lunch on own. Afternoon wander the People’s Park where throngs of locals gather to practice Taiji, fly kites, or do synchronized dance. See the lovely Bonsai Garden in the park with beautiful tropical and native plants grown for decades in large ceramic pots. Visit Kuanzhaixianzi, a traditional district with restored courtyard houses from Qing dynasty. Lining the old alleyway, beautiful teahouses, art galleries, bookstores, boutique shops, and restaurants make this area a popular destination for locals. (b)

Day 5, Oct 22, Sun • Chengdu This morning, visit Chengdu Panda Breeding Center beautifully landscaped with lush plants and lakes. Meet with 20 some pandas and their caregivers. The highlight is the see the panda cubs at the kindergarten where they play with each other, climbing up and down trees, rolling and pushing and kicking like Kungfu masters. Also, visit the Small Red Panda Center with 40 small pandas in residence who roam freely. Lunch at Kuanxi Restaurant nearby.Afternoon explore the Wenshu Temple and wonder through the maze-like garden, which gives way to the impressive Manjushri Bell Tower enveloped by cherry and bonsai trees. See monks worshipping or engaging in community activities, like ping pong. Wander the surrounding area, immersing in traditional shops and local activities. Drop by a teahouse, enter a traditional Chinese medicine shop, and watch locals playing mahjongg on the streets and eating Sichuan snacks. For dinner, enjoy Sichuan hotpot at Tanyutou Hotpot Restaurant on the old market street. Afterwards, watch a most entertaining Sichuan opera performance. (b,l,d)

4. Yangzi River Cruise

Shanghai • Chongqing • Yangzi River • Shanghai • 5 day extension tour • 2 domestic flights in China

Day 1, Oct 18, Wed • Shanghai–Chongqing Our extension begins with a flight to Chongqing. After lunch, visit the pandas at the Chongqing Zoo. Amid rolling hills and beautiful natural scenery, the zoo houses more than 200 different species and over 2,000 animals. It is an immensely popular attraction due to the giant pandas native of the province. The Panda House has 8 adorable pandas born at the zoo. It covers two hectares with large open den for pandas to roam around. Other precious animals such as golden monkeys and South China tigers find their homes here. If time allows, also visit General Stilwell’s Museum which commemorates the American military leader’s efforts in China during WWII. Following dinner, board the Victoria cruise ship executive cabins for October 19 sailing. (b,l,d)

Day 2-3, Oct 19-20, Thur-Fri • Yangzi River Cruise The main focus of the cruise is the extraordinary Three Gorges--the deep valleys and towering mountains carved by the Yangzi River. Each day there are special excursions on shore, including a visit to the breathtaking Lesser Gorge Daninghe and to visit relocated families at Immigration Village.

Tour the Three Gorges Dam construction site at Sandouping and sail through the new ship-locks. (Both days: b,l,d)

Day 4, Oct 21, Sat • Yichang–Shanghai Disembark the ship in Yichang after lunch. Fly to Shanghai in the late afternoon and transfer to your hotel. The evening is free and dinner is on your own. (b,l)

International Flights Airfare to/from the traveler’s home to/from the tour is not included in main or extension tour prices. Our partner Airtreks can provide assistance to travelers needing assistance with flights, and more information will provided during the booking process. Single Travelers Private Room Single travelers can guarantee their own private room by paying the single supplement. There are no restrictions to the number of single spaces on this tour. Willing to Share If the traveler would like to share a room with another traveler, China Advocates will endeavor to pair the traveler with a suitable roommate of the same gender, if possible. Should a roommate not be available by the time final payment is due, the single traveler is responsible for the full single supplement. If a roommate becomes available after final payment has been paid, China Advocates will refund the single supplement. Additional Services China Advocates can book additional services, such as airport arrival and departure transfers and additional hotel nights. Rates will be provided to travelers at the time of inquiry or booking. China Advocates Guides This tour includes expert English-speaking local guides in each city/town/location. Minimum Numbers For Tours The minimum number required to operate tours is two paying travelers. Tour prices are based on a minimum of 2 paying travelers. Payment & Cancellation Payment Our payment policy is as follows:

• Deposit: $700 per person, due at the time of booking, by check, wire or credit/debit card • Final Balance: Due 90 days prior to departure, by check, wire or credit/debit card

Cancellation Policy Cancellation of the main tour by a traveler will incur the following penalty, per person:

• 91 or more days before departure: $500 • Between 90-46 days prior to departure: $1500 • Between 45-31 days prior to departure: $2500 • 30 days or less prior to departure: We will retain 100% of all fees paid

Cancellation of extension tours, additional services or upgrades will incur the following penalty, per person:

• 50-31 days prior to departure 25% of cost • 30-0 days prior to departure No refund

All cancellations must be received in writing. Inquiries & Bookings China Advocates will handle all inquiries and bookings for this tour, and will notify Employment Lawyers Alliance on a weekly basis of any current leads and bookings. Names and contact details will be provided for all bookings. Should a potential traveler contact Employment Lawyers Alliance directly, Employment Lawyers Alliance should provide the name and contact information of the inquiry to China Advocates at its earliest convenience for follow-up.

Travel Insurance China Advocates will provide insurance information to Employment Lawyers Alliance travelers unless specifically requested to not do so by Employment Lawyers Alliance. Travel in China China’s tourism industry has improved dramatically over the last decade. However, air and land transportation and other facilities may not always meet international standards. In addition, travel in China requires good physical condition and health (special needs must be identified and arranged for in advance and may result in additional costs), a spirit of adventure, a flexible attitude, and a sense of humor. Our guides want to show your travelers as much of their country as possible, so the schedule will be demanding with moderate physical activity. The itinerary is subject to change and modification.
