A proposal has been sent to Principal for Ramaiah students to set 10 incubation centres to nurture entrepreneurial ideas of the students which will be in collaboration with GIGA. According to her, an entrepreneurial idea is not something that can be invented rather it comes from day to day life problems. Problems such as environmental, educational, technical, economical etc can become entrepreneurial ideas.

Entrepreneurship is exploding in India and the Central Government is exploding leadership. But to decrease the load on central and state government, institutions like GIGA has to come to act as a bridge and help dreams come true. Her son became an entrepreneur at the age of 15 with the help of TIE Young Entrepreneurs in which young students are taught for 8 weeks and are divided into teams. It’s young India that’s taking up the baton when it comes to new ideas and entrepreneurial startups, so why not create a network for those aged 25 and below, who want to be taken a little more seriously? That’s exactly what two enterprising youth did when they created a business from the Under 25 Club they began as college students. ain and business partner Anto Philip started working on their idea as first-year undergraduate students at Christ University in Bangalore, in 2013 – Jain studying Business Management and Philip a degree in Commerce. EDC with collaboration with Under25 organised Under25 Summit which was a grand success. Renowned speakers such as Sumukhi Suresh, Vineeth Beep Kumar and Anto Philip were invited. If you’re young and want to do something on your own, you’re associated with being restless, vibrant, too casual,” said Philip. India is considered to be home to one of the fastest startup ecosystems in the world. Fifty per cent of the Indian population is under the age of 25. IDEA RISE-2019

Purpose: Create ideas that can potentially be converted into a business opportunity or lead to IPR by conducting an event ‘Idea-Rise ‘@EDC-RIT involving students of all departments. The proposed dates for this event this academic year should ideally end within 20th December 2019. (Follow-up sessions in even semester till Open Day Project Exhibition: Pradarshana 2020)

What is ‘Idea-Rise’?

Entrepreneurship and start-ups sound great as buzzwords but without proper thought and focus they are as good as the water mirage on the road. To remove this mirage and create a real oasis of talent, we at EDC RIT bring to you ‘IDEA-RISE’

IDEA-RISE is an entrepreneurship event which encourages students from various departments and backgrounds to pitch in their ideas, identifying a real world problem something as simple as getting food at your doorstep which we can’t imagine in any way besides Zomato or Swiggy now.

We want to provide not only a platform for these students but also expert guidance so that in this sea of noise, we add a strong footing and contribute to a functional startup culture.

The main aim of the IDEA-RISE is to encourage students to identify problems which can be converted into a business opportunity. Apply technology to find solutions to solve this problem.

The intent of this event is:

Enable the students to imbibe the spirit of field work and research. Through this camp the students will need to meet the societal entities to get a first-hand understanding of the nature of the work they do.

Ø E.g. To use technology to tackle the problem of garbage collection and disposal, the student teams will have to interact with the actual garbage collectors or BBMP employees.

Instill the spirit of ‘innovative and creative thinking’ to figure out the details of how to apply technology to solve the problem in hand.

Inculcate the spirit of entrepreneurship by identifying a real-world problem which can potentially be converted into a business opportunity or IPR.

Overall objectives of ‘IDEA-RISE’

Provide the students with a forum to identify and formulate a systematic approach to solve the problem in hand. This involves two main stages.

Page 26: Highlights Of Entrepreneurship Development Cell 2019 · Entrepreneurship Development Cell, RIT, Nikita Menon, also took part in lighting of the lamp. ... to help city-dwellers get

· Stage 1: Problem Definition and Ideation – How to turn problems into opportunities

Ø Form the initial problem statement Ø Get to know their idea-solution end-user/customer, and identify their

needs

Ø Refine the problem statement to convert it into a business opportunity

Ø Present the final defined problem to a jury of professional business people and experts.

Ø Selection of valid problems/idea

· Stage 2: Ideathon – How to apply technology to solve the problem

Ø Research the newest technological trends to solve the problem

Ø Analyze and decide which technology to be used to build a prototype model

Ø Ideate along with plans of how to develop a prototype model Ø Review what is already out there that could compete

Ø Build a basic business model around the idea

Ø Present the final idea-solution for a jury of professional business people and experts.

Steps in Planning:

Stage 1: Problem Identification

· Inauguration and Orientation: This step is to bring awareness of the ‘IDEA-RISE’ initiative to students and faculty of RIT. It is basically a motivation step to declare the plan of execution of the ‘IDEA-RISE’. (Tentative Date: 14th November 2019 – Thursday)

· Registration: Team Size: 2 to 4 students. Interdisciplinary Teams are encouraged.

· Submission of the real-world problem: Four weeks’ time to visit the real world with people who face the problem and understand their difficulties. Submit an abstract write-up of the problem with focus on how it can be converted into a business opportunity. (Online Submission Date: 14th December Midnight)

· Selection of valid real-world problem: Online scrutiny the problems submitted and filter out the actual real world problems which can potentially lead to business opportunity / IPR. (Tentative Date of Announcement: 28th January 2020)

· Announcement of Selected ideas and mentorship for pitch: The shortlisted teams would be provided workshop on preparation for the pitch to present their ideas in the second round in front of evaluators.

Stage 2: Mentorship and Ideathon

Page 27: Highlights Of Entrepreneurship Development Cell 2019 · Entrepreneurship Development Cell, RIT, Nikita Menon, also took part in lighting of the lamp. ... to help city-dwellers get

· Ideathon Stage1: The teams undergone the pitch workshop have to present their ideas in front of the evaluators in the form of a presentation. (Tentative date: 14 th February 2020)

· Mentorship Program: The shortlisted teams undergo domain based mentorship programs covering all the aspects of making a product. The series of workshops conducted will offer the following insights,

Ø Elevator Pitch- illustration

Ø Basic concepts of business & finance

Ø Business Entities, Laws & Regulations

Ø Business Plan- Practical Insight Ø Operational Plan

Ø Financial Plan- Overview

Ø Financial Plan- Practical Aspects

Ø Start-up Ethos & Dynamics

Ø Start-up India – Action Plan

Ø Start-up Funding

Ø Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)

· Prototype Building: This is the next logical step- convert the appreciated good ‘idea solutions’ into a product prototype. It could potentially lead to many interdisciplinary projects during Pradarshana 2020. The potential of this venture is the involvement of EDC, Funding Agencies resulting in startups and incubation at RIT. It could also potentially lead to patenting & other IPR related activities. (Term January 2020 – May 2020)

· Ideathon Stage2: After the mentorship programs are completed for every shortlisted on the basis of domains, the final presentation is conducted where the teams have to present their business model and prototype of the product in front of a panel of judges and investors.
