HSA No Poaching RuleApplies to all HSA Recreational Games U06 – U10

In the spirit of developing players to the greatest of possible efficiency, HSA has adopted a rule to restrict marking of boxes on goal kick tactics. The rule is designed promote escalated player development via more meaningful player touches in matches. It is also intended to reduce goals from goal kick scenarios. On Goal Kicks, opposing players (defenders) must remain on their half of the field until the goal keeper has passed the ball AND the receiving player has touched the ball.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Act The safety of our players is paramount. Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death for youth athletes, with as many as 1 in 250 youth athletes having a heart disorder that may increase the risk of sudden cardiac arrest. On July 24, 2015, a new State of Washington law regarding sudden cardiac arrest awareness went into effect. SB 5083 – referred to as the Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Awareness Act – was passed with the intent of making youth athletes, their families, and coaches aware of sudden cardiac arrest.

Similar to the Zackery Lystedt Law (HB 1824) for concussion awareness passed in 2009, SB 5083 specifically outlines requirements for private nonprofit groups, such as youth soccer clubs/associations, to comply with prior to their first use of school facilities in Washington State by the private nonprofit group. This means that each club/association that requests school fields/facilities must comply with SB 5083 before the school district will allow use of their facilities.

The new law requires compliance from all parents/players, coaches, and organizations that will be utilizing school district facilities in the State of Washington beginning July 24, 2015. Thank you for your attention to this topic – we are working diligently to provide resources and support to comply with the new law.

Appendix• Age Group Summaries• U7 Minis• U8 Age Group• U9 Age Group• U10 Age Group• U11 Age Group

Page 36: Highline Soccer Club Tuesday, July 28, 2015 Burien Library

Mini's U7 (5 and 6 years olds) - This age group is where it all starts, playing 8 games, 6 players on each team, playing 3v3 with no goal keeper. We always need volunteer coaches at this age level to point the kids in the right direction. After 8 weeks you will see a huge difference in your players ability but most of all they will tell you they had fun and want more. No scores kept and the Coach is the referee/mentor on the field. This age group plays other Highline Soccer Club teams and games are at the same location each week. A great experience for all.

U8 - U11 - These age groups play 'Modified' soccer. What this means, smaller fields, goals and teams with emphasis on more touches of the ball for each player. Also, season length is 10 games playing on Saturdays. U12-U18 teams in the SSUL as there are fewer teams locally to play against. Again, home games are in the SeaTac, Normandy Park, Burien, and Des Moines area and away games could be in Tacoma, Federal Way, Auburn, Kent, Maple Valley, Narrows or Mount Rainier areas. Games are played on Saturday or Sunday depending on age group and level.

Please note, coaches at U11 have the option to enter their team into District play if they wish. More travel will be required.
