Hike and Travel In Provence September 14-23, 2013 Day 1, September 14 Depart U.S. for Paris Day 2, September 15 Train to Avignon. Welcome meeting with your guide and dinner and night included in Avignon at Hotel de l’Horloge Day 3, September 16 Morning transfer by private taxi to the perched village of Bonnieux (45 mins). Walk from Bonnieux into the heart of the Luberon mountains, across truffle oak plantations and cherry orchards, and passing the village of Buoux. A breathtaking descent down a centuries-old mule path takes us to the Auberge des Seguins, a 17th century goat farm, and your accommodation for the next two nights. Walking time: 4 hours. Elevation gain: 250m Meals Included: Breakfast, picnic lunch, dinner at your hotel Day 4, September 17 Leaving the Auberge des Seguins by foot we follow the Aiguebrun River before reaching the lost hamlet of Sivergues. From there we climb to the very crest of the Luberon, where the views extend to the snow-peaked Alps. We return to the Auberge des Seguins for our second dinner and night. Walking time: 4.5 hours. Elevation gain: 500m Meals Included: Breakfast, picnic lunch, dinner Day 5, Septmeber 18 Once more we leave the Auberge des Seguins by foot, and visit the 3000 year-old Buoux Fort, perched vertiginously over the valley. On a scenic path we descend the south face of the Luberon and to Lourmarin, listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France. We take the time to visit the village before an afternoon transfer by taxi (1 hour) to the town of Saint Rémy de Provence, set at the foot of the Alpilles mountains. Day 6, September 19 Leaving Saint Rémy by foot we enjoy the village’s weekly market before climbing to the windswept crest

of the Alpilles mountains, laden with aromatic herbs. The afternoon is free to visit the town, including

the former monastery where Van Gogh spent the last year of his life. Dinner on your own and night in

Saint Rémy de Provence.

Walking time: 2.5 hours. Elevation gain: 200m

Day 7, Septmeber 20 In the morning a taxi transfer (1 hour) takes us above the port town of

Cassis, and we descend a trail by foot to the famous turquoise inlets

of the Calanques. We follow a coastal path along the Mediterranean,

passing the Calanque d’En Vau et Calalnque de Port Pin to reach

Cassis, our base for the next two nights. Dinner in a local restaurant

included and night in Cassis.

Walking time: 4 hours. Elevation gain: +200/-400m

Day 8, Septmeber 21 A short taxi transfer takes us above the majestic cliffs of Cape Canaille, where we hover high above the

vast expanse of the Mediterranean Sea. Our towering path takes us to the port town of La Ciotat which

we visit before returning by local bus to Cassis. Farewell dinner included and night in Cassis.

Walking time: 4 hours. Elevation gain: +200/-400m

Day 9, September 22 Early morning transfer to Marseille train station

for Paris. Day and evening free. Overnight in

Paris (Hotel TBD)
