Year 2 Maths Activities Overview Below you will find a range of maths activities for your child to complete whilst at home. These cover a range of topics and some are split into mild, spicy and hot challenges. Please support your child in choosing the appropriate level of challenge where necessary. Day 1 Place Value Copy out and complete the part-part-whole pictures by adding the missing numbers. Then, create your own. Challenge: Can you create a part-part-whole model for a 3-digit number? Year 2 Maths Activities Overview

Below you will find a range of maths activities for your child to complete whilst at home. These cover a range of topics and some are split into mild, spicy and hot challenges. Please support your child in choosing the appropriate level of

challenge where necessary.

Day 1 – Place ValueCopy out and complete the part-part-whole pictures by adding the missing numbers. Then, create your own.

Challenge: Can you create a part-part-whole model for a 3-digit number? Clue: Your model will have three parts!

Day 2 - MeasureHave fun measuring objects in NON-STANDARD units. For example: How many building blocks high is the table? How many lego bricks long is this pencil? How many hands fit along the side of your bed? How many leaves long is this twig? How many toe-to-toe steps does it take to walk the length of the garden? Record your findings to share with the class!

Day 3 – Addition Create your own calculation problems to practise column addition. You should create your calculations by generating two random numbers between 1 and 50.

1. When it is their turn, players roll their dice. They then move the counter the number of spaces shown on the dice and answer the calculation they land on.

2. If the answer given to the calculation is correct, play continues as usual: • landing on a snake’s head - the player’s counter slides down • landing at the bottom of a ladder - the player’s counter climbs up3. If the answer given to the calculation is incorrect, the player misses a go. 5.

The first player to reach the finish is the winner!

Day 6 – 2D ShapesRevise your shape knowledge! Write the shape properties and colour the 2D shapes hidden in this spring picture.

Day 7 – FractionsPlay the fraction games on this website to revise our learning on halves, quarters and thirds.

Record you families’ preferences using a tally chart. Then, use this information to create a pictogram to present your results. Once we return to school, we will use the information you have gathered to create a whole class pictogram!

Day 9 – Money Money You have these coins:

Can you make these amounts in three different ways? Draw the coins you would use. You can use any coin more than once.Mild: 10p, 20p, 35pSpicy: 50p, 37p, 68pHot: £1.25, £1.62, £2.89

Extra challenge: Sort the coins in Mum’s purse. How many of each? How much altogether?

Day 10 - SubtractionCreate your own calculation problems to practise column subtraction. You should create your calculations by generating two random numbers between 1 and 50. For example, 26 – 14 = 12

Copy and complete the sentences and calculations to show multiplication and division facts for the objects below.

Extra challenge: Can you create your own multiplication and division sentences and calculations, using items you can find around the house or in the garden. For example, number of clocks, number of lights, number of plant pots. You can be as creative as you like! Day 12 – Problem Solving!
