Mrs. Springer’s Note:

Dear Families:

Welcome to 2017!

Hopefully you had the opportunity to attend the Holiday Concerts in December.

The arts are another avenue for our students to shine and showcase their talents,

and the staff members do a wonderful job of working with the students to bring

those out. Watch your email and the district Facebook page for information about

viewing the performances at the HS online. This is a great way to share your

child’s concert with relatives who could not attend.

With January, students will be taking either the STAR Reading and Math assess-

ment or the PALS assessment. Each of these assessments are meant to provide

teachers with a snapshot of how each of our students are doing in each of these

areas. We look at the amount of growth our students have made since the fall

assessment and adjustments are made to the instruction or interventions the stu-

dents receive.

Free and Reduced Breakfast and Lunch- Each year we ask families to com-

plete the application. The Department of Public Instruction uses the information

from our families for more than offering meals to students. The funding our

school receives from the Free and Reduced Student count also funds our Title I

Reading program. The more families that qualify, the more money we receive to

increase the reading services we can provide. This year, Hilltop was able to add a

½ time reading teacher because we had more families qualify for Free and Re-

duced Meals.

Your income information, and whether or not you qualify, is not shared with any-

one at our school. The Food Service Director, Callie Hackel, is the only person in

the district who has access to that information and she does not share it with an-

yone.

There are two ways to fill out the family form, 1) fill out an application online

through Skyward family access or 2) complete the paper application by going to:

Kindergarteners at Hilltop carried on the

tradition of decorating Gingerbread

Houses this past December. Parents and

grandparents joined the fun and helped

the students put together beautiful

houses. Children read many books about

gingerbread men and gingerbread houses

including: Gingerbread Man, Gingerbread

Boy, Gingerbread Girl, Gingerbread Baby

and Gingerbread Pirates to prepare them

for creating their masterpieces!

Happy New Year from your

Royal Credit Union School $ense Team!

The Super Savers of Hilltop have started out strong practicing the saving habit with Royal Credit Union School $ense. Let’s keep up the good work as we start 2017! Now is a great time to talk with your child to set a saving goal. Think of how rewarding it will feel to look back at the amount saved over the school year.

Remember that Royal donates $150 to Hilltop for every 300 deposits made. Your Royal School $ense location is open on Wednesday each week to help your child get excited about saving and helping their school.

As a special incentive, we will have a Double-

Stamp Day on

Wednesday, January

25! Savers will re-

ceive two stamps on

their Super Saver

cards, instead of

one, helping them

earn prizes more

quickly!

If you want to know how to start saving at school with Royal School $ense, please contact Jackie Molden at [email protected] or by calling 715-234-3319 ext 6954

Need a 2017 Calendar?

Hilltop School is selling 2017

Culver’s Calendars. 100% of the

$10 cost goes to the Hilltop Activity

Fund. Each month has two coupons

for Culver’s. Please stop in the

school office to purchase one.

Hilltop School Store Opening Soon!!

This time of year school supplies start running

out. Students will be invited to come to the 4th

grade store, during school hours, to purchase

supplies at a low cost. Items such as pencils,

markers, crayons, and other items from our

school supply list will be available. Watch for a

flyer and email with store hours.

THE WARRIOR WAY

Hilltop Elementary students in the month of December displayed positive behavior by being Re-

spectful, Responsible and Safe throughout our building having turned in 496 Warrior Way cards.

That means the “Hilltop Ninja Warriors” have turned in a total of 2807 Warrior Way Cards by the new

year!

All December the children voted between having a “Hallway Dance Party” and a “Sun Glasses

Day”. On Monday, the students found out that the most votes went to a “Hallway Dance Party” for the

next school-wide positive consequence sometime

this month!

At our assembly in the beginning of January,

five lucky students were chosen as contestants to compete in the obstacle course versus Mrs. Olson for

the best time. We also learned about appropriate

behavior using the Warrior Way from the Hilltop 3rd Grade teachers and students during the game show

skit they put on called, “The Classroom Feud”!

On Monday afternoon, as a way to get ener-

gized for a new year, the whole school participated

in a “Minute to Win It” Olympic games. Each grade

level had an activity for the students to compete in,

while the students rotated to each classroom.

Teachers and staff had a great

time!

Daybreak with Dad

February 9th

7am-8am

Hilltop Cafeteria

Students can bring dad, grandpa, uncle, or any other special person and start their day together with

light refreshments.

At Hilltop there is a need for an occasional substitute

classroom, lunch or recess aide. This is a fun and

rewarding way to become active in your child's school

while being paid for your time. Usually it is about 2 hours

of time that needs to be filled at a rate of $11.55/hr. If you

think you would possibly be interested in becoming a

substitute aide at Hilltop please contact Karen Dahlberg

at the school district administrative building either by

email or phone. [email protected] or 715-234-9007 ext. 5016. There

is a small amount of paperwork to fill out to become one of our substitutes and

Karen can help you with that. If you have questions you can call Natalie

Springer at 715-234-4998 ext. 5340.
