Editor’s voiceWe participated in the workshop held at Vijayawada on 24th May 2016 on

preparation of State Annual Action Plan (SAAP) 2016-17. This workshop was chaired by Dr.

P.Narayana garu-Hon’ble Minister for MA&UD, Sri K. KannaBabu(IAS)-Director of Municipal

Administration and other officials, addressing AMRUT cities in prioritization of projects under

AMRUT scheme. Keeping in view of water scarcity in Hindupur town we proposed water supply

project with HNSS canal as water source under AMRUT scheme as top priority followed

construction of Sewage Treatment Plant, construction of storm water drains and development of

NGOs colony park under Green Cover &Parks sector.

Conservation of natural resources is essential in now a days for sustainable

development, hence we are creating awareness among public on water harvesting pits, energy

conservation and motivated public to dig rain water harvesting pits in their housing premises for

the existing properties. It is mandated to provide a place for rain water harvesting pit for building

approval by the Town Planning Section. At present 98% of Conventional Street lights are replaced

with the LED lights and further indent for 1000 LED lights put up for coverage of extended areas.

During this summer vocation Summer Coaching Camp was held for sports in

Football. Badminton, Cricket and Karate for the students which was sponsored by District Sports

Authority, Anantapuram.

We are happy to say that as an initiative to save environment, Hindupur

Municipality has enforced a ban on plastic bags usage of plastic in the town while slapping a

penalty erring hotels, shop keepers etc.,. Plastic does not dissolve; it breaks into tiny pieces and

stays there for up to 1,000 years, contaminating soil, waterways and oceans and entering the food

web when eaten by animals. Hence there is every need to control usage of plastic.

Under Housing for all we received 11000 applications from the beneficiaries under

this scheme. After scrutiny, we found that 8000 applicants have Aadhar number and 9750

applicants are headed by female members. For this 118.92 Acres land is allotted at Kotipi village,

Hindupur by Revenue Department. Detailed project report is under progress.
