1. PRESENTATION

Safety warnings are present in this manual that are used to bring some particularly impor-tant warnings to the reader’s attention.The safety warnings are divided into two main types, identified and described below.

DANGERThis symbol accompanied by the word DANGER indicates that the situationdescribed below it, if not avoided, may lead to serious injury or death of the inte-rested parties (operator, staff on the ground, staff in proximity of the platform,maintenance engineers etc.).

ATTENTIONThis symbol accompanied by the word ATTENTION indicates that the situationdescribed below it represents a potential risk for the machine’s structure. Dange-rous conditions may arise (even injury or death) for the interested parties.

2. OPERATOR MANUAL

2.1. DESCRIPTION OF THE MACHINE

The LIGHTLIFT machine is a self-propelled hydraulic lifting device, equipped with a workbasket positioned at the top of an articulated, extendable and rotating structure. The LIGH-TLIFT lifting device is destined for LOCATION OF PERSONS AND THEIR TOOLS ANDMATERIALS IN ELEVATED POSITIONS WITH RESPECT TO GROUND LEVEL.

The LIGHTLIFT aerial platform has two main control stations:• The first, positioned on the basket, controls all lifting device, transfer and stabilisationmovements. From this control post, the operator can drive the machine, stabilise it, lift orlower the extendable structure and turn 360°, not continuously.

• The second control post is located in proximity of the tower.The selection of one of the two control posts is carried out by connecting the remote controlto the relevant connection on the extension arm or on the tower, by fixing the remote controlto the support in the basket control post and by enabling the desired control post using thekey selector positioned on the tower.

LIGHTLIFT SELF-PROPELLED AERIAL PLATFORMHINOWA

Page 7: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

The control post on the ground has been designed to control transfer of the machine and tooperate on the extendable structure only for maintenance operations or to carry out checksand controls before starting work.

ATTENTION: it is prohibited to move the structure on the ground if someone is presentin the basket.

When operating the machine from the control position on the ground it is always neces-sary to remain at distance of at least 1 metre from the machine.

The machine stabilising operations are only allowed from the control post in the basket.• A third control post exists which will be identified as the emergency control post, which isalways located on the ground on the right side of the machine near to the hand pump andthe distributor of the extendable structure. This must be used by the obligatory auxiliary staffto bring the operator working at a height back to the ground, if the machine starts-up.

When transfer of the machine is ordered from the basket post, pay attention to the presenceof elements (eaves, terraces, architraves, branches etc.) that may come into contact with theoperator.

2.1.1 MACHINE IDENTIFICATION PLATE

The Manufacturer’s plate is situated on the rear part of the machine, on the support of thehydraulic distributor that controls transfer/stabilisation (see photo). It is shown belo.

2.3.3 NOISE AND VIBRATIONS

The HINOWA platforms with thermal engine, have been tested according to the parametersof European 2000/14 EC Standards, revealing a guaranteed sound pressure level of 97dB(A).When the machine is used for aerial operations, this value is reduced as the basket movesaway from the main source of noise.

The value of the vibrations transmitted to the operator through the controls directly from thebasket surface resulted lower than maximum accepted limits.

2.4 INSTRUMENTS AND CONTROLS

The indication of the functions of all controls and indicators present on the platform are sta-ted below; every device has an adhesive nearby that briefly describes the function. Oftenthey are symbols adopted to favour quick and safe use. Before using the platform it is neces-sary to read the descriptions to understand the functions of every device and eventuallylearn from the Manufacturer’s suggestions.

The operator must have understood all dispositions contained in this manual before startingto use the machine.

2.4.2 WORK STATIONS

The LL14.72 aerial platform envisions two work stations plus an emergency position.

• The first control station is situated in the basket and envisions the remote control positio-ned and fixed on the relative support connected to the plug on the extension arm. Anemergency button must also be fixed to this support (see photo).This control position is enabled using the key selector positioned on the tower (seephoto).From this control position it is possible to control the extendable structure, transfer andstabilisation of the machine. If the emergency button is not connected to the remote con-trol support, the extendable structure cannot be used.

• The second control position is situated on the ground and envisions the remote controlconnected to the tower. From this post normally it is possible to control the travels.

During the travels control phase the operator must stay at a distance of at least 1mt. from the machine.

Control of the extendable structure is only allowed from this position for maintenanceinterventions on the machine. Stabilisation of the machine must also be controlled from

2.5 SAFETY DEVICES

The following notions regarding the safety devices are put at the user’s disposal so that hecan understand the machine and the possible work sequences; moreover in this way it willbe possible to identify any faults with more certainty and supply more detailed indicationsto the assistance service for quicker and easier interventions.

The machine is equipped with safety devices to prevent the operator from finding himself indangerous situations. It is important that the operator verifies the perfect functioning ofthese devices before starting any operation.

The malfunctioning of a safety device, whether caused by a fault or tampering, can causeserious damage to the machine and consequently put the operator’s life in danger. HINOWAS.p.A. has designed the machine and safety devices to guarantee its clients with the maxi-mum. However the devices must be checked periodically according to that described in thismanual and must never be tampered with.

Do not intervene on the safety devices of your own initiative. If the devices are tamperedwith the Manufacturer declines all responsibility for any accidents that can be blamed onthese interventions.

Page 34: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

33

It is prohibited to tamper with the lead sealing or the calibration of the maximum flow val-ves and the electric component adjusters. If the devices are tampered with the Manufacturerdeclines all responsibility for any accidents that can be blamed on these interventions.

HINOWA S.p.A will not reply to any damage by the machine to persons and/or objectsbecause of failure to comply with the afore-said.

2.5.1 BATTERY DETACHER SWITCH

This device, which is positioned on the right side of the electric component box, allows to interruptthe machines electric circuit, blocking all movement. It is visible and easily accessible. It must beactivated every time that the machine is abandoned at the end of a shift or for long periods of time.By turning the key in a clockwise direction, the machine’s electric circuit is closed, while turning itin an anticlockwise direction the machine’s electric circuit is interrupted and the key can be remo-ved.

LIGHTLIFT SELF-PROPELLED AERIAL PLATFORMHINOWA

Page 35: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

2.5.2 DISTRIBUTOR RELIEF VALVES

All platform distributors are equipped with a safety relief valve, which limits the pressurethat can be reached inside the plant to the calibration pressure of the valve itself.These valves are calibrated in the platform inspection phase by qualified staff insideHINOWA SpA and must not be tampered with for any reason.

2.5.3 CYLINDER BLOCKING VALVES

The stabiliser cylinders have a double blocking valve which, in case of plant breakdown orpipe breakage, block the cylinder preventing dangerous situations of platform instability.All cylinders that move the aerial part of the platform structure have a blocking valve which,in case of plant breakdown or pipe breakage blocks the cylinder preventing the basket preci-pitating because of gravity. These valves are calibrated in the platform inspection phase byqualified staff inside HINOWA SpA and must not be tampered with for any reason.

34

Page 36: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

35

2.5.4 PHOTOCELLS FOR ALIGNMENT OF THE AERIAL PART OF THE STRUCTUREAND MACHINE BASE

The platform has two safety reflecting photocells that verify that the aerial part of the machi-ne structure is completely lowered and aligned with the base and that the extension is com-pletely retracted.When one of these conditions does not occur a signal is given that disables transfer andmovement of the stabilisers, eliminating remote control and bobbin proportional valvepower supply.

2.5.5 CONSENT DEVICE FOR THE AERIAL PART OF THE STRUCTURE

When all stabilisers are resting correctly on the ground, the stabilising cylinders, going toend run, release the micro-switches positioned at the ends of the rods. The stabilised machi-ne must also be levelled within the tolerance of 1° granted by the Manufacturer.The stabiliser micro-switches and the electronic spirit level send a signal that enables thepower supply of the remote control and the bobbin proportional valves relative to the aerialpart of the structure. If for some reason a micro-switch should be re-activated during basketmovement (e.g. for the lifting of one stabiliser or for subsidence), or the stabilised machineshould exceed the allowed flatness tolerance, movements of the aerial part of the machineare prevented.

LIGHTLIFT SELF-PROPELLED AERIAL PLATFORMHINOWA

Page 37: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

2.5.6 BASKET LOAD SENSOR

The load sensor present on the basket made up of a two-shaft basket support that allowsexclusively vertical movement of the basket. Basket support is supplied by the load cell itself.Two extensometers are positioned inside the sensor positioned under the basket, which swit-ch the relative weight inside the basket to an electric signal. The electric signal is sent to acard (see photo) that elaborates it and identifies any dangerous conditions.

The maximum load depends on the work modality selected (par. 2.4.1.1 point 3). If the workmode with jib has been selected, the load equals 120 kg. For the work mode with jib closedjib the max. accepted load is 200 kg.When the max. accepted load is reached, a flashing red light appears on the electric controlboard as well as an acoustic signal and all platform movement is obstructed.To restore platform functioning it is necessary to remove excess weight so as to fall withinthe max. accepted weight.

HINOWA S.p.A recommends that maximum attention is paid to the state of preservation andto the regulations of all safety devices and in particular the system that makes up the loadsensor in the basket; always check its functioning when the basket is hit by any object or ifwork must be carried out they may cause damage to the system (e.g. pruning, painting etc.).

2.5.7 CONTROL PROTECTIONS

The remote control is protected from the accidental fall of objectsand from the involuntary actions of the operator by a protectivestructure.

LIGHTLIFT SELF-PROPELLED AERIAL PLATFORMHINOWA

36

Page 38: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

37

2.5.8 SPIRIT LEVEL

The spirit level is positioned on the tower in a position that isvisible from the basket. The position is established by the Manu-facturer to carry out all stabilisation and lifting operations.The spirit level must be used to control that during the platformlevelling phase the accepted max. 1° gradient limit is respected.For this to happen, the air bubble must not leave the green area.A second electronic bubble checks that this condition is effecti-vely satisfied and controls the power supply of the relative con-trols to the aerial part.

Approximate levelling, outside of the limits set by the Manufacturer, is very dangerous andmay jeopardise the platform’s stability creating a risk source, even death for the operator andother persons operating near to the machine.

Never intervene on the spirit level; this device is calibrated by HINOWA during preliminarytests before sale. Only technicians authorised by HINOWA in possession of adequate toolsmay intervene on the spirit level.

2.5.9 PIN BLOCKING NUTS AND BOLTS

All pins used on the LIGHTLIFT platform have been treated against wear and are equippedwith welded flanges (1) to obstruct rotation inside the seat. Screws are used on some pins toblock rotation (2) while other pins are notched into the machine’s structure (3).The pins in the most delicate position are threaded on the ends and have self-braking nuts (4)or self-braking threaded eye-nuts that prevent the structure from subsiding. Scrupulouslyfollow the checks for correct tightening of all pin blocking devices according to the limits

LIGHTLIFT SELF-PROPELLED AERIAL PLATFORMHINOWA

4

Page 39: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

supplied by the Manufacturer.

Do not unscrew pin blocks, check their correct tightening periodically. The escape, even par-tial, of a pin from its seat could cause sudden and uncontrollable movements and also theloss of stability of the machine and/or the basket to fall.

2.6 EMERGENCY DEVICES

The following notions regarding the safety devices are put at the user’s disposal so that hecan understand the machine and the possible work sequences; moreover it will be possible toidentify them more clearly and act quicker in the case of an emergency.

It is important that the operator checks the perfect working order of the safety devices beforestarting any operations.

2.6.1 EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN BUTTON

Allows immediate shutdown of all machine functions in emergency conditions.There are 3 emergency shutdown devices on the machine; the first is found on the platformtrolley immediately above the slew ring (1), the second is located on the basket, fixed belowthe remote control support, the third is found on the remote control. Once the device hasbeen activated, the button must be turned to allow the machine to become operative again.

Page 40: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

39

The rule according to which it is prohibited to work without the presence of staff on theground must be followed scrupulously. In fact, accidental activation (e.g. because of a fallingbranch) or voluntary by a stranger, of the emergency button on the ground on the rotatingtower would put the occupants of the basket in the uncomfortable situation of not being ableto carry out any movement, except descent using emergency descent devices (par. 2.9.8.1).

2.6.2 HAND PUMP

The hand pump (2) is used to send pressurised oil to carry out manoeuvres in case of emer-gency if there is a fault in the main hydraulic plant. The hand pump is equipped with amanual switch (1) which allows to select whether to command the two stabilisers on the(Position A) or command the two stabilizers on the left and the aerial part of the structure(Position B).

2.6.2.1 CONTROL OF THE STABILIZERS

MANOEUVRE OF THE STABILIZERS IN EMERGENCY POSITION IS ALLOWED EXCLUSIVELY IF THE MACHINE

BREAKS DOWN AND IF THE STABILIZERS HAVE TO BE CLOSED FOR THE MACHINE TRANSPORTATION.IT CAN BE DONE ONLY IF THE AERIAL PART OF THE MACHINE IS COMPLETELY CLOSED.

The control of the stabilizers is only allowed if the electric plant is not faulty and the ignitionkey is in the ON position. To control the stabilizers or the travels it is necessary to act on theproportional valve of the two control distributors (see photo) using the relevant ball gripspositioned underneath the distributors protection sump. It is also necessary to operate on thebutton relative to the movement that is to be carried out (see photo).

IT IS ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN TO MOVE THE PROPORTIONAL VALVES MOUNTED ON THE DISTRIBU-TORS OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE FROM THE IDLE POSITION, WHILE THE ENGINE (THERMIC OR ELEC-TRIC) IS WORKING. THIS OPERATION WOULD BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR THE SAFETY OF THE OPERATOR ON THE

PLATFORM’S BASKET.

Note: REMEMBER TO COMPLETELY UNSCREW THE PROPORTIONAL VALVE BALLGRIPS AFTER

THE OPERATION.

If there is a fault in the electric plant the aerial part-trolley partcommutation switch, must be switched manually by acting onthe spool in the centre of the magnet using the relevant handwheel positioned in the electric component compartment (seephoto).

2.6.2.2 CONTROL OF THE AERIAL PART

If the aerial part of the structure must be controlled without the presence of electric current itis indispensable to switch, using the relevant hand wheel, the aerial part distributor propor-tional valve bobbin (see photo) and act on the movement buttons that are to be carried out(see photo).

IT IS ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN TO RELEASE THE PROPORTIONAL VALVE OF THE AERIAL PART FROM

2.6.3 ELECTROVALVE FOR EMERGENCY DESCENT

The cylinders of the first, second arm and jib have an electrovla-ve for emergency descent (1). By acting on the emergencydescent selector on the remote control these electrovalves areexcited and allow descent of the aerial part of the structure bygravity.The use of this emergency device is linked to the presence of vol-tage in the platform’s electric plant.Follow the same recommendations stated in point 2.6.

2.6.4 KEY TO BY-PASS THE SAFETY SYSTEMS

The machine is equipped with a key device that works on the electric circuit by-passing thesafety systems of the platform.The use of this device is described in paragraphs 2.9.8.4 e 2.9.8.5.

The dangerous use of the platform during the safety systems by-pass, requires to carefullyread paragraphs 2.9.8.4 and 2.9.8.5 about the use of the key selector to release the safetysystems.

Before entering any high risk area (refineries, power stations etc.) check accessibility withplant safety staff.

2.8 PROCEDURES FOR CORRECT USE

The procedures for use of the platform envisioned by HINOWA are stated below. Any diffe-rent use from that stated, without written authorisation from HINOWA S.p.A. is prohibited.

2.8.1 OPERATOR’S RECAPITULATORY TABLE OF SAFETY REGULATIONS

Below is the summary table with all general safety regulations which must be followed bythe operator before starting to use the platform. Remember that an adhesive reproducing thistable can be found near to the control post on the basket. It is visible from the control post.

• The platform can only be used by previously trained staff.• All transfer and stabilisation controls and movement of the extendable structure must be car-

ried out from the control post in the basket.• All user and maintenance instructions in the attached USER AND MAINTENANCE

MANUAL must be followed scrupulously.• Never exceed the maximum accepted capacities indicated in the USER AND MAINTENAN-

CE MANUAL and on the machine by visible indications applied to the basket.• The operator must wear a helmet and use the safety belt, which must be attached to the spe-

cial anchorage points on the basket.Remember that the safety belts must be controlled and RE-CERTIFIED ANNUALLY.

• Before starting work the operator must ensure the perfect working order of all safety devices,the efficiency of all main mechanical parts and the level of fuel and hydraulic oil.

• Never operate on soft, rough, slimey ground or with gradients that exceed the accepted gra-dient limit so that the platform is perfectly stable.

2.9 USE OF THE ELEVATING WORK PLATFORM

In the explanations contained in the following paragraphs, it is considered that the operatorhas read and understood that contained in the previous sections of this manual. Thereforephotographs and warning already present in other sections of the document will be repeatedto a minimum.

The HINOWA elevating work platforms are suitable for overhead work from inside thebasket. The platform must only be used by specialised staff that understands the dispositionof all controls and functions, the instruments, indicators, warning lights and the meaning ofthe adhesives and indications present on the machine.The operator must understand platform manoeuvre procedures before operating it. The correct use of the platform envisions, as well as the operator (or operators) in the basket,the presence of an expert operator on the ground, surveying the machine, ready to interveneif any dangerous situations are created and for any emergency manoeuvres. The staff on theground must also be adequately trained about controls and procedures for use and theymust also have read this manual.

- The failure to comply with even one safety regulation could cause damage to the opera-tors and/or machine.

- A first-aid box and a fire extinguisher must be situated near to the working area. Theymust be used in compliance with the regulations in force.

- It is prohibited to stop in the machine’s radius of action. The area below the field ofdevelopment must be cordoned off; it is prohibited to throw objects from the basket ortowards the basket.

- It is obligatory to wear tight-fitting clothes and use safety equipment (shoes, helmet, pro-tective gloves and safety belt).

- When the job must be carried out by two or more persons, before starting, always agreeon the correct procedure to follow. Always inform work companions before starting theprocedure.

- At low temperatures switch the motor on for a few minutes, to allow the hydraulic oil

46

Page 48: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

47

to circulate, allowing it to arrive at least 20°C, before activating the platform.

- When entering the basket, attach the safety belts immediately to the relevant fixingpoints, before carrying out any manoeuvre. Remember that safety belts must be control-led and RE-CERTIFIED ANNUALLY.

- If the intensity of pressure on the ground of the stabilisers should exceed the acceptedpressure, the bearing area must be increased by inserting special plates or a bed of stablematerial (e.g. wood) between the ground and the stabiliser plate.

2.9.1 PRELIMINARY CONTROLS AT THE START OF WORK OPERATIONS.

Every day before using the machine carry out the following:

- Check that there are no leaks from the machine’s hydraulic plant. If there are leaks carryout repairs and restore the hydraulic oil level (See paragraph relative to maintenanceoperations). Clean the area with a solvent or a detergent and water under pressure.

- Check that there is no corrosion and that there are no cracks near to the welding.

- Control the integrity and the correct tensioning of the track belts (See paragraph relativeto maintenance operations).

- Check that no components are damaged, broken or missing. Check the correct tighteningof the pin setscrews and safety nuts or eye-nuts. Replace, tighten and adjust according tothe platform Manufacturer’s instructions before operating the machine.

- Remove debris that can cause fires or breakage, paying particular attention to the machi-ne’s control area and the area around the diesel/petrol engine.

- Clean handrail, footboards and control levers from any oil residues or from debris thatcould jeopardise the execution of the manoeuvre in total safety, risking the operator’ssafety. Check the integrity of the warning lights and electric controls of the electric con-trol board positioned on the basket.

- Check the state of the adhesive plates positioned on the machine in places where theycan be viewed easily.

- Control that there is enough gas oil/petrol in the fuel tank, in order to prevent uselessstops with relative emergency descents.

- Check the correct functioning of safety devices.

Page 49: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

2.9.2 START-UP OF THE PETROL OR DIESEL ENGINE (OPTIONAL)

- Before starting the engine it is indispensable to understand and be clear on all procedu-res described in the machine and engine’s USER AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL andto know the meaning of the adhesive safety labels.

- It is necessary to have examined the summary table of the safety regulations for the ope-rator in the manual and have applied all provisions.

- Before starting up the engine ensure that the selector on the remote control (par. 2.4.1part. 4) is positioned on the thermal engine.

- Start-up of the DIESEL engine (optional) may take place from the ground using the igni-tion key lateral to the engine, or directly from the remote control. In this case it is neces-sary to position the engine ignition key in the ON position before entering the basket,using the relevant handrail to enter the control position. Then act on the green button onthe remote control (par. 2.4.1 part. 2).

- Start-up of the PETROL may take place from the ground using the engine ignition key(in this case it is impossible to act on the starter), or directly from the control post. In thiscase it is necessary to position the engine ignition key in the ON position. Then act onthe green button on the remote control (par. 2.4.1 part. 2). For control of the starter holdthe yellow button down on the remote control (par. 2.4.1 part. 1).

Before starting-up the engine, ensure that the accelerator con-trol is in the correct position (ticking over). Start-up of a coldengine at an excessive speed could cause serious damage to theengine.

START-UP OF THE ENGINE MUST ALWAYS TAKE PLACE WITH ALL BUTTONS ANDTHE CONTROL JOYSTICK IN THE NEUTRAL POSITION.Check that there are no foreign elements (e.g. branches) that can accidentally activate a con-trol. The platform could move suddenly, independently from the operators wish and causeserious damage to objects and/or persons.

2.9.3 START-UP OF THE ELECTRIC ENGINE

- Before starting the engine it is indispensable to understand and be clear on all procedu-res described in the machine and engine’s USER AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL andto know the meaning of the adhesive safety labels.

- It is necessary to have examined the summary table of the safety regulations for the ope-rator in the manual and have applied all provisions.

- Power the machine using an electric cable through the coupling in a low position near tothe electric engine.

Before this:- Ensure that the features of the electric line correspond with the voltage and frequency

indicated on the electric motor plate.

- Control the state of the electric power supply wire. Its section must be adequate for thepower of 2.2kW. Use a three-pole cable for the connection 3x2.5mm2 with F47 earthplug, double isolation with 16° socket. The maximum length of the table must be 10 m.

- Insert an earth plate into the ground or check the efficiency of the connection network ifthe ground does not allow this operation (e.g. inside rooms).

- Before starting the engine ensure that the selector on the remote control (par. 2.4.1 part.4)is positioned on electric engine.

- Act on the green button on the remote control (par. 2.4.1 part.2).

The platform could move suddenly independently from the operators wish and causeserious damage to objects and/or persons.

2.9.4 TRANSFER

The LIGHTLIFT machine is a self-propelled machine that moves with ease over all types ofterrain, able to overcome steep slopes (up to 20°) and, considering its contained size, enterbetween narrow openings. The machine must be closed and aligned for transfer.Two control posts are envisioned for transfer:- the first in the basket and the second on the ground, connecting the remote control to thesocket on the tower and ALWAYS maintaining a minimum distance of 1 metre from themachine during ALL control operations.

LIGHTLIFT SELF-PROPELLED AERIAL PLATFORMHINOWA

Page 51: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

To always have precise control of movements, also depending on the area where work isbeing carried out, always choose an adequate engine working conditions.

It is prohibited to climb into or out of the basket if it is not completely lowered.

The LIGHTLIFT series machines are not type-approved for circulation on publicroads. The work areas and autonomous movement must be opportunely restrictedand signalled according to the laws in force on this subject. The machine must beloaded onto type-approved vehicles for any transfer on public roads.

- When transfer of the machine is controlled from the basket, pay attention to the presenceof elements (eaves, terraces, architraves, branches etc.) that may come into contact withthe operator.

- If transfer of the machine is controlled from the ground remember to always remain at aminimum distance of 1 metre from it.

- Transfer cannot be carried out if the stabilisers are not completely lifted and placed inthe transport position.

- The 2nd transfer speed (optional) can only be used during straight-route transfer on flat,heavy land.

2.9.4.1 PARKING THE MACHINE ON A SLOPE OR ON UNEVEN LAND

When parking the machine with the stabilisers closed on a slope or on uneven land, block thetracks using pegs to prevent the machine from moving.

- It is not permitted to move in 2nd speed on uneven or rough terrain and during move-ment that does not follow a straight course.

LIGHTLIFT SELF-PROPELLED AERIAL PLATFORMHINOWA

50

51

2.9.5 STABILISATION AND LEVELLING OF THE MACHINE

Once it has been decided where the machine is to be located, it can be stabilised and levelled.Firstly ensure that the surface can support the intensity of pressure on the ground exerted bythe machine (see technical features paragraph).

- Always remember to stay at a distance from embankments or ditches equal to theirdepth and to respect the distances stated from the electric lines.

- Do not strike persons or objects during the descent of the stabilisers.

To proceed with stabilisation and levelling operations, from the basket, activate the controlsrelative to each stabiliser until the tracked trolley is lifted about 10 cm from the ground, pla-cing it in a horizontal position with tolerance of 1°.A spirit level is present on the machine to check correct levelling; when the air bubble is com-pletely inside the green area (see successive photo) the machine can be used. Remember thatthe max. slope on which the machine can be levelled within the tolerance of 1° signalled onthe spirit level, is 10 degrees. Steeper slopes do not consent to correct stabilisation and causeserious danger for the users.There is an orange light on each stabiliser (see successive photo), near to the attachment ofthe cylinder to the stabiliser. This light flashes to indicate that the stabiliser is resting on theground.

Note: it is important that when the machine is stabilised the trolley is ALWAYSlifted from the ground.

LIGHTLIFT SELF-PROPELLED AERIAL PLATFORMHINOWA

Page 53: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

An electronic spirit level checks that the machine is effectively positioned on a flat surface,the accepted tolerance and enables movement of the aerial part of the machine.

If the machine is not stabilised correctly work cannot be carried out. HINOWA prohibits theuse of the machine if it is not stabilised according to that prescribed in this manual; overtur-ning of the machine can cause serious injury or death to its occupants or staff on the ground.

If one of the orange lights positioned on each stabiliser should flash even when the stabiliseris lifted from the ground, stop the machine immediately and call for assistance because thisindicates breakage of the micro switch of the corresponding stabiliser.

If you are working with the machine stabilised on slippery surfaces (marble, porphyry, gla-zed cement, smooth humid surfaces etc.) check that movements of the basket do not inducethe trolley to move. In this case it is necessary to suspend the operation and restore the ope-rative safety conditions established by the Manufacturer.

2.9.6 MOVEMENT OF THE BASKET.

Once the machine BASKET has been correctly stabilised it is possible to proceed with basketmovement.

To use the jib carry out the following:

- climb into the basket alone with the tools necessary to carry out the operation for a totalweight of 120 kg;

- position the machine correctly;- stabilise the machine within the limits envisioned by the Manufacturer according to the

procedures stated in this manual;- select 120 kg option on the selector;- raise the second arm;- raise the first arm;- lengthen the extension;- raise the jib.

LIGHTLIFT SELF-PROPELLED AERIAL PLATFORMHINOWA

52

Page 54: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

53

Never rotate the platform with the basket completely lowered; so as not to strike the stabili-sers with the lower part of the basket it is necessary and obligatory to raise the latter by atleast one metre.If the machine should not give consent for jib opening check the total weight inside thebasket; the load sensor has probably detected a heavier mass; if this is not the case, you havenot selected the 120kg option correctly with the relative control and in this case the machinedoes not give consent for jib movement. If all of the conditions have been satisfied, check cor-rect functioning of the platform and contact an assistance centre.

To re-close the machine follow the order of movements below:

- lower the jib;- retract the extension;- close the second arm;- lower the first arm;- take the arm onto the support;- raise the stabilisers.

• It is prohibited to load material into the basket if the machine is not stabilised andcompletely closed. Loading material into the basket when it is raised (e.g. from roofs,balconies etc.) inevitably causes the machine to overturn, exposing the occupants andthe staff on the ground to a probable risk of death.

• It is prohibited to use the machine to lift loads; the machine can lift two persons (80kg each plus 40 kg of tools or, using the jib, one person (80 kg) and 40 kg of tools.

• During lowering of the machine in proximity of theresting of the 2nd arm on the 1st arm a potential shearingrisk is created, which is signalled with adhesives; it is theoperators job to move anyone to near to this area awayfrom it.

LIGHTLIFT SELF-PROPELLED AERIAL PLATFORMHINOWA

Page 55: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

It is prohibited to use the machine by introducing objects into the basket that offer a largesurface for wind pressure (e.g. large signs) even if they are within the machine’s capacitylimits.

2.9.7 MANUAL LEVELLING OF THE BASKET

The HINOWA platform has an automatic basket levelling device.This device has been designed in a way that the floor of the basket always remains parallel tothe ground independently from the movement of the platform arms.

Therefore, for causes arising from eventual leakages, it may be necessary to bring the basketback to its optimal position manually:

- bring the basket back to its transfer position by resting the 2nd arm on the support (thisonly if you met the problem while you were in the high basket);

- insert the key in the relevant slot on the remote control(see photo);

- enable the control by turning the key;- act on the joystick to activate movement of the basket adjusting the speed.

Levelling of the basket is only envisioned :- as an exceptional manoeuvre in the case of slight malfunctioning of automatic levelling,

therefore if this inconveniences should be repeated frequently, it is necessary to have thebasket controlled by an authorised workshop;

- activation of the manual levelling control is only admitted from the basket, differentlythe operator could suffer serious injury from contact with the moving parts of the machi-ne;

- it is prohibited to use the levelling manoeuvre for different scopes than the afore-descri-bed (e.g. for lifting objects, to increase the platforms reach etc.), similar use could be thecause of accidents, even fatal.

LIGHTLIFT SELF-PROPELLED AERIAL PLATFORMHINOWA

54

55

2.9.8 EMERGENCY MANOEUVRES

The machine has been designed also taking possible emergency situations into consideratione.g. mechanical faults, electric faults, sudden indisposition of the operator etc. In all of thesecases it is possible to intervene on the machine both from the basket and the ground, in away to bring the machine back into the transport configuration or however in a way to beable to rescue the occupant/s of the basket. The procedures of the intervention are statedbelow.

Remember that the presence of staff on the ground is obligatory during functioning of theplatform.

2.9.8.0 ACTIVATION OF THE BASKET EMERGENCY DESCENT

The basket’s emergency descent procedure can be activated from the basket itself only if themachine’s electric plant has not been damaged. To proceed act in the following manner:

- hold the manual maintained action selector, on the remote control, down (Ref. button 17chap. 2.4.1);

- act on the arm descent controls normally used to reach the desired height (Ref. chap.2.4.1);

- release the manual maintained action selector.

As we are talking about descent by gravity, obviously it is not possible to obtain the platformslewing movement or retraction or extension of the telescopic arm, therefore the basketdescends vertically at a distance from the centre of rotation that is conditioned by the confi-guration that the machine had at the time that the emergency situation was created.

Page 57: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

2.9.8.1 ACTIVATION OF THE EMERGENCY DESCENT FROM THE GROUND IN CASE THE OPERATOR FEELS

BAD ANT THE ENGINE IS WORKING

This emergency descent may only be activated if the operator is not feeling well and theengine is working. It is not possible to carry out the emergency manoeuvre from the basket.

The only reason for which the emergency descent is admitted is to bring the basket back tothe ground and give assistance to the operator.Every other use is prohibited.

Before starting the emergency descent make sure the thermic engine is at its minimum revolu-tions.

During this manoeuvre it is forbidden to carry out manoeuvres different from those descri-bed e.g. extend the telescopic arm or the jib, move the stabilisers and in general all manoeu-vres that could make the machine unstable.

- Take the proportional valve adjustment ball grip from the electriccomponent compartment and insert it into the relevant adjustingscrews (see photo) in prossimità del motore elettrico;

- Make sure the thermic engine is at its MINIMUM revolution;

- Screw the ball grip. The knob position settles the movementsspeed. Screwing that the speed increases;

- Remove the aerial part distributor protection for the aerial move-ments (see photo);

- Act on the bobbin ON-OFF buttons to enable the desired move-ment following the instructions of the stickers near to the controls.

The movements sequence to be done is as follows:- re-entry of the extension arm- jib closure- first arm closure- second arm closure

2.9.8.2 ACTIVATION OF THE EMERGENCY DESCENT WITH MANUAL PUMP IN THE CASE OF BREAK-DOWN OF ALL SYSTEMS PROVIDING ENERGY

This emergency descent may only be activated when fault in the machines electric plant. It isnot possible to carry out the emergency manoeuvre from the basket;

The only reason for which the use of the emergency descent is admitted is that of compensa-ting a plant fault and bring the basket back to the ground.Every other use is prohibited.

Activation of the emergency descent may take place using the manual hydraulic pump (par.2.6.3). To obtain movement of the basket, oil must be pumped manually and ground controlsrelative to arm movement used at the same time.

During this manoeuvre it is forbidden to carry out manoeuvres different from those descri-bed e.g. extend the telescopic arm or the jib, move the stabilisers and in general all manoeu-vres that could make the machine unstable.

To carry out the emergency descent in the conditions describedabove, act in the following manner:

- Take the proportional valve adjustment ball grip from the electriccomponent compartment and insert it into the relevant adjustingscrews (see photo) near to the electrical motor;

- Move the deviator located on the manual pump to the positioncontrolling the movements of the aerial part;

- Tighten the ball grip completely, removing the protection if neces-sary;

- Remove the aerial part distributor protection for the aerial move-ments (see photo);

- Act on the bobbin ON-OFF buttons to enable the desired move-ment and at the same time act on the hand pump to send oil to themovement (see photo);

- When the emergency operation has been carried out unscrew theball grip on the proportional valve completely, remove it and placeit in its original position. Re-position the distributor protection.

2.9.8.3MOVING THE STABILISERS WITH THE MANUAL PUMP TO ALLOW THE TRANSPORT OF THE

PLATFORM

THE MANUAL HYDRAULIC PUMP CAN BE USED ONLY AFTER CLOSING COMPLETELY THE AERIAL PART

OF THE PLATFORM, IN ORDER TO MOVE THE STABILISERS AND BRING THE MACHINE TO THE TRAN-SPORT POSITION.

To lift the stabilisers from the ground in order to close them and be able to transport themachine, do as described below:

- make sure that the machine is completely closed and aligned;

- remove the two distributor protections of the undercarriage;

- completely tighten the two proportional valves mounted on the two distributors, usingthe appropriate tools;

- to move the left stabilisers bring the deviator on the manualhydraulic pump to the corresponding position;

- on the aluminium ball grip located on the proportional valve(A) on the undercarriage’s distributor, left side, tighten theblack handle to the end;

- act on the ON-OFF coil buttons (B) to do the required move-ment and at the same time act on the manual pump to sendoil to the movement (photo C);

- to move the right stabilisers bring the deviator located on themanual hydraulic pump to the corresponding position;

- on the aluminium ball grip located on the proportional valve(A) on the undercarriage’s distributor, right side, tighten theblack handle to the end;

- act on the ON-OFF coil buttons (B) to do the required move-ment and at the same time act on the manual pump to sendoil to the movement (photo C);

- once these emergency procedures are completed, release theball grip on the proportional valve to the end and put the pro-tection on the distributors again.

2.9.8.4 ACTIVATION OF THE EMERGENCY DESCENT IF THE MACHINE IS ACCIDENTLY DE-STABILISED

Since it is recommended to follow what stated in par. 2.9.5 to stabilise the machine, for manyreasons it can happen that one of the stabilisers loses its adherence to the ground, thus chan-ging the inclination of the machine or causing the stabiliser’s plate to lose adherence to theground. If this happens when the machine is lifted, it will stop immediately, without anypossibilities to move it again.In order to bring back into use the functions of the platform (close the aerial part and stabili-se the machine again) it is possible to use the electrical emergency descent, operating exclusi-vely the movements to draw back the aerial part. In case this was not possible due to objects obstructing the manoeuvre, the operator on theground can have the operator in the basket to close the machine. The operator on the ground has the possibility to by-pass the safety devices of the machineand have the operator in the basket to close the machine.

Read the instructions below, before starting the manoeuvre since it is potentially dange-rous for the operator in the basket.

Act as follows:

- Open the electric component compartment;

- Position the emergency key on the electric component boxremoving it from the same side to which it s fixed;

- Activate the emergency key by turning it in aclockwise direction and keep it in position (see thesticker);

- Control the machine from the remote control, carrying out EXCLUSIVELY operationsthat allow the its closure: closure first/second arm, extension closure, jib rotating closu-re.

ATTENTION! DANGEROUS OPERATION

Page 62: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

61

DO NOT CARRY OUT OPERATIONS THAT ARE DIFFERENT FROM TOSE LISTED OR THAT CAN IN SOME

WAY JEOPARDISE MACHINE STABILITY. THE SEQUENCE OF ARM MOVEMENTS MUST BE CARRIED OUT

IN A WAY TO PREVENT ANY OPERATION THAT JEOPARDISES MACHINE STABILITY.

- Once the machine is closed release the key, remove it and place it in its original position.

2.9.8.5EMERGENCY MOVEMENT OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE IF THE AERIAL PART SHIFTS

THE MANOEUVRE DESCRIBED BELOW IS TO BE MADE EXCLUSIVELY IF THE MACHINE IS CLOSED.

During Transport it can occur that the aerial part of the machine rotates, loosing alignment.If this happensyou can follow one of the two EMERGENCY PROCEDURES stated below:

A) Re-aligning the machine:

- Open the electric component compartment;

- Position the emergency key on the electric component boxremoving it from the same side to which it s fixed;

- Activate the emergency key by turning it in an clockwise direction and keep it in posi-tion (see the sticker);

- Re-align the machine, controlling it from the remote control;

ONLY CARRY OUT THE SLEWING MANOEUVRE

- Release the key once the machine has been aligned, remove it, place it in its originalposition and close the electric component compartment.

B) Movement of the undercarriage with machine not aligned:

- Open the electric component compartment;

- Position the emergency key on the electric component boxremoving it from the same side to which it s fixed;

- Activate the emergency key by turning it in an anti clockwise direction and keep it inposition (see the sticker);

- Operate on the transfer button with extreme care so as not to damage the machine orpersons.Be positioned in the correct place to carry out procedure A, through which it is possibleto obtain slowing of the machine;

- Release the key once the operation has been carried out remove it, place it in its originalposition and close the electric component compartment.

2.9.9 MAIN DECLARED USES OF THE PLATFORM

The specific recommendations for the most frequent uses of the machine are stated below.The following must be considered additional and not a replacement of that contained in theUSER AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL.

2.9.9.1 PLANT ENGINEERING

Check that the parts where the intervention is to take place are not live, if in doubt requestthat the staff on the ground verify the situation.Do not go near to electric lines.Stay at an adequate distance (Ref. cap. 2.7.1).

2.9.9.2 CLOSED ENVIRONMENTS

To carry out operations in closed environments HINOWA recommends, when possible, theuse of a machine with electric engine. If this is not possible ensure that there is a sufficientexchange of air and prevent accumulation of dangerous gases.If illumination of the workplace is insufficient it is obligatory to have additional light sour-ces.

2.9.9.3 USE FOR PRUNING

Carrying out this activity requires some very important skills to prevent the machine frombecoming unstable! Remember that:

- If branches or trunks fall onto the machine’s safety devices they may break them;- Falling plant parts can ruin the machine;- Falling plant parts may push emergency buttons on the ground. In this case it is not pos-

sible to control the machine and the intervention of staff n the ground must be reque-sted;

- Tools used for pruning such as chainsaws apply a noteworthy force towards the basket;- It is obligatory to previously check that the shrub that is to be will not fall on any part of

the platform or basket.

Page 65: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

2.9.9.4 USE FOR REPAIR OF ROOFS AND GUTTERS

Remember that it is prohibited to use the platform for the transport of material in quota evenif they are within the capacity limits envisioned by the Manufacturer; the PLE is not a liftingdevice.It is also very important to remember that once the basket is lifted from the frame, it is abso-lutely prohibited to load objects. Remember that no safety device can help if you are in quotawith the basket over loaded, the emergency descent does not ensure against overturning.The only way to be safe is to re-enter within the accepted basket load limits as soon as possi-ble depending on the work configuration by unloading the load from the basket.

2.9.9.5 USE FOR PAINTING, SANDING AND PLASTERING

This type of use requires meticulous protection of the machine’s delicate parts such as thehydraulic cylinder rods, their seals, safety devices, hydraulic telescopic extensions andinscriptions on the machine (e.g. Manufacturer’s plate, warning adhesives, capacity tablesetc.). If sand is mixed with the extension protective grease it becomes an extremely abrasivemixture, jeopardising the quality of machine movements and its duration.

2.9.9.6 USE IN MARINE ENVIRONMENTS

If the machine is used in environments where the atmosphere is particularly corrosive checksfor the formation of rust and the state of greasing and lubrication of the mobile parts must becarried out more frequently than that recommended by the Manufacturer in normal condi-tions.It is also a good idea to cover the machine well every time that it is not to be used, even forshort periods of time, covering it to protect it from salt and sand that are carried by the wind.

2.10 REMOVAL OF THE BASKET

The basket can only be removed to allow passage through holes measuring 1500 and 790mm.

IF THE MACHINE DOES NOT HAVE A BASKET, ONLY MOVEMENT OF THE TRACKS IS ALLOWED BY CON-NECTING THE REMOTE CONTROL TO THE EARTH PLUG AND MAINTAINING ONESELF AT A MINIUM

DISTANCE OF 1 METRE FROM THE MACHINE ITSELF.

To remove the basket act as follows:

- Remove the remote control and connect the earth connection;- Remove the emergency button from the fixed key on the basket and fix it in the designated

position on the jib arm (see photo);

- Unscrew the aluminium lids on the two basket mounting trunnions (see photo);

- Remove the basket from above.

Re-assemble the basket as follows:

- Insert the basket into the fixing screws on the basket support, paying attention to allow itto descend as parallel as possible to the basket support;

- Screw on the two aluminium lids;- Re-position the emergency button in the designated position on the basket taking care to

insert it in the relevant key fixed on the basket (see photo).

2.11 SAFETY REGULATIONS FOR TRANSPORT

Always ensure that the means to be used to transport the platform has an adequate capacityand that no part of the PLE escapes from the limits of the shape of the vehicle as stated in theHighway Code.

2.11.1 LOADING AND UNLOADING WITH RAMPS

The HINOWA platform has high manoeuvrability and stability even in the transfer phase, inspite of this we advise the user to operate with attention even when carrying out simple ope-rations.For example to climb onto a lorry follow the procedure below:- park the lorry or trailer on a flat surface;- ensure that the ramps and the trailer have the capacity to support the machine and there

is no debris or slippery material present;- if the vehicles are not correctly equipped place support blocks under the ramps. - Position the ramps parallel to each other at a distance equal to that between the tracks;- Go onto the ramps, proceeding with the machine orientated with the basket towards the

rear part;- Proceed with great care near to the arrival surface to prevent strong jolts in the gradient

change phase between the ramp and the arrival surface;- Position the machine in a way that no part escapes from the means of transport.

Descend following the afore-mentioned indications and provisions.

During the transfer phase and the gradient change phase pay attention not to damage thesafety devices positioned under the basket and in proximity of the end of the first extension.If the change in gradient is excessive, change the inclination of the ramps or if this is not pos-sible use longer ramps.

66

Page 68: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

67

2.11.2 LIFTING THE MACHINE

Lifting apparatus with adequate capacity, depending on the distance and height to which thePLE must be lifted, is required to lift the machine.

• For lifting operations required for maintenance or loading the machine onto a means oftransport, only use machinery (e.g. cranes, overhead cranes etc.) and load pick-up devi-ces (e.g. ropes, chains, hooks) with adequate capacity and which are in a perfect state;the weight of the machine refer to the PLE technical features paragraph.The photograph below demonstrates how the PLE must be fastened.

• When the machine is lifted it must be in transport configuration (arm closed completelyand lowered, stabilisers lifted completely and trolley enlarged). Differently the machinewill be unbalanced and lifting dangerous.

• Never lift the machine with the operator on board.

• During lifting phases ensure that no-one is in the area of the operations and do not passthe suspended machine over persons.

Never lift the machine when it has been prepared in a different way to that demonstrated; if,for example, it is lifted by fastening it to the arm taking advantage of the devices for anchora-ge to the ground (not designed to support the weight of the PLE) or by simply passing a beltaround any arm element, the slew ring and other machine elements would be loaded withforces for which they have not been designed. The probability of causing structural damageto the machine is high.

LIGHTLIFT SELF-PROPELLED AERIAL PLATFORMHINOWA

Page 69: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

2.11.2.1 HOW AND WHERE TO ATTACH THE PLATFORM

To lift the platform it must be attached to each stabilisation plate support pin as indicated inthe photo below.

It is prohibited not to fasten all four feet, the machine may not be balanced. Moreover it isobligatory to use four distinct ropes, chains or slings; in this way breakage or incorrectanchorage of a connection device would not implicate dangerous load movements.

2.11.2.2 WHAT TO USE TO ATTACH THE PLATFORM

The lifting devices must be in a good state and used according to the specifications suppliedby the Manufacturer. As the weight of the platform is not spread equally over the four stabi-lisers, the minimum required capacity of the four ropes, chains or slings used must be: nolower than 600 kg and their length no lower than 2.5 mt. and all identical.

The width of the slings must not be more than 40 mm, the width of the chains must not bemore than 25 mm, the diameter of the ropes must not be more than 25 mm so that pressure isnot applied in an anomalous direction to the stabiliser plate.

Using ropes, chains or slings with length less than 2.5 mt could cause permanent damage tomachine stabilisers.

68

Page 70: Hinowa Light Lift 14.72 Operators Manual - LE Graphics

69

2.11.3 TRANSPORT OF THE MACHINE

Once on the trailer the machine must be fixed with tensioning members according to the dia-gram described in the photo below. Check that machine measurements and those of the trai-ler are compatible with the provisions of the Highway Code.

4.3 MAINTENANCE OF THE RUBBER TRACKS

4.3.1 CONTROL TRACK TENSION

Stop the machine on firm and level land. Lift the machine in safe conditions and place stablesupports under the undercarriage frame for total support. Parallel with the central roller ofthe undercarriage, measure distance A from the bottom of the roller to the rigid inside of therubber belt. Track tension is normal if measurement A is between 10 and15 mm.If track tension is not within the measurements specified above, loose or too tight, follow theprocedures illustrated in the following paragraph.

4.3.2 OPERATIONS FOR LOOSENING/TIGHTENING THE TRACK

Grease is contained in the pressurised hydraulic track. For this reason the lubrication valve 1must not be loosened for more than one turn; if the valve is loosened too much, it risks beingexpelled under the effect of the pressure of the grease, risking operator’s safety. Never loosengreaser 2.When gravel or mud are blocked between the toothed wheel and the track links, remove itbefore loosening.1. Remove the screws and adjustments access cover 3.2. To loosen the track, slowly unscrew valve 1 in an anti-clockwise direction for no more than

one turn. One turn of valve 1 is sufficient to loosen the track.3. If the grease does not start to drain, turn the track slowly.4. When correct track tension has been obtained, turn valve 1 in a clockwise direction and

tighten it.Clean all traces of grease.

5. To tighten the track, connect a grease gun to greaser 2 and add grease until belt tension iswithin the specified values.

It is not normal if the track remains taught after having turned valve 1 in an anti-clockwisedirection or if the track is still loose after having put grease into greaser 2. Never try to remo-ve the tracks or disassemble the track-tensioner cylinder because the grease pressure insidethe track is very dangerous.

4.3.3 CONTROL OF THE RUBBER TRACKS

The structure of the rubber track is illustrated in fig.A. The steel ropes and the metal core aresunk into the rubber. The sculptures are used to give stability when moving over loose land.They are situated in the lower part resting on the ground, while the wheel guide situatedinside the track, prevents the track from escaping from the guide rollers.

Cause of damage

A) Breakage of the steel ropes

Excessive tension causes the steel ropes to break in the following conditions:- when stones or foreign bodies accumulate between the track and the undercarriage frame;- when the track escapes from its guide;- in the case of strong friction such as rapid direction changes.

B) Wear and breakage of the metal cores

As for breakage of the steel ropes, stated above, excessive tension may cause the metal coresto bend or break, as may the following causes:

- incorrect contact between toothed wheel and track;- rotation of internal rollers;- functioning on sandy land.

C) Separation of the metal cores

The metal core acts as an adhesive of the rubber betweenthe core itself and the steel ropes. Separation may be cau-sed by excessive tension as for breakage of the cord for thefollowing reasons:- The metal cores have been rolled by the worn toothedwheel as indicated in the figure. When this wear and abra-sion is detected, the toothed wheel must be replaced assoon as possible. If it breaks, as stated in paragraphs A-B-Cthe track must be replaced because this damage leads to acomplete loss of functions.

D) Abrasion and fatigue cracks

1. The cracks at the base of the sculpture occur because of bending fatigue of the rubber cau-sed by the toothed wheel and the track-tensioning wheel as indicated in photo 4 (seeappendix).

2. The cracks and bends on the edge of the rubber are due tomanoeuvres with the track in presence of cement kerbs andedges.

3. The cracks and abrasions in the rubber on the tracks of the roller guide originate from fati-gue from the compression of the rubber by the weight of the wheel, together with functio-ning on sandy land, or repeated and abrupt changes of direction as indicated in photos 6-8-9 (see appendix).

4. Abrasion of the sculpture may occur especially if rotations on concrete surfaces or on gra-vel or hard surfaces (see photo 7 in appendix) are carried out.

The damage indicated in par. D points 1.2.3 must not be considered fatal for the track and,even if in presence of gradual and progressive damage, they allow the track to continueworking.The development of the damage indicated in point 3 leads to the exposure of the metal coresand if they are exposed for more than half of the track circumference, it means that it is timeto replace them. It can however still be used.

E) Cracks due to external factors

Cracks on external track surfaces (those in contact with the ground) are often due to contact withgravel, sharp stones, sharp materials, nails, glass, which cause cuts as demonstrated in photo 10(see appendix). From the point of view of rubber properties, this is inevitable although it doesdepend on service conditions.Cracks on the internal surface of the circumference and on the edge of the rubber originate fromcontact of the belt with the structure of the undercarriage or with sharp concrete edges, as indica-ted in photos 12 and 13 (see appendix). The increase in cracks is relatively small.Even if it does not appear to be in good condition the track can be used in heavy duty conditions.

4.3.4 REPLACEMENT OF THE RUBBER TRACKS

Grease is contained in the pressurised hydraulic track. For thisreason the lubrication valve 1 must not be loosened for more than one turn; if the valve isloosened too much, it risks being expelled under the effect of the pressure of the grease,risking operator’s safety. Never loosen greaser 2.When gravel or mud are blocked between the toothed wheel and the track links, remove itbefore loosening.

Removal of the rubber tracks

1. Stop the machine on firm level land, lift and support it, in safe conditions, using the stabi-lisers.

2. Remove the screws and adjustments access cover 3.

3. To loosen the track, slowly unscrew valve 1 in an anti-clockwise direction for no morethan one turn. One turn of valve 1 is sufficient to loosen the track.

4. If the grease does not start to drain, turn the track slowly.

5. Insert 3 steel pipes (4) inside the tracks in the spacebetween the rollers. Turn the driving wheel in reverse(5) so that the steel pipes proceed with the track andengage on the track-tensioning wheel. Apply force (6)laterally to allow the track to run and lift it from thetrack-tensioning wheel.

Installation of the rubber tracks

1. Ensure safe conditions with the machine lifted to proceed with mounting the tracks.

2. Control that the grease contained in the hydraulic cylinder has been removed.

7. Adjust track tension (see paragraph 4.3.2 -Operations for loo-sening/tightening the track).

8. Rest the tracked undercarriage on the ground.

4.4 CHECK TIGHTENING OF NUTS AND BOLTS

Depending on the use of the platform, it is indispensable to check the parts and the nuts andbolts in general, which may loosen.Pay particular attention to the frame components, such as track-tensioning wheels, transfermotor reducers, driving wheels and guide rollers. Check that they are tightened sufficientlyas indicated in the following table.
