Project: Development of comprehensive BI reporting solution with Pentaho

Description: A leading Valves Manufacturing company in USA, having presence in 12 different locations

out of which 8 are manufacturing plants and 4 are the regional controlling offices looking

after the overall operations including Production, Finance and Sales. Company

manufactures 9 different types of valves supplying it to 21 countries. The basic challenge for

the top management was to keep a close eye on the manufacturing plants for their

operations. On the other hand, there was a difficulty in reporting and reconciliation of the

reports that are generated by the Plant heads and 4 regional controlling offices. Another

vital area for the reports was accurate sales figures for 21 countries to which they were

supplying the valves.

• Existing MIS was unable to provide a comprehensive reporting that supports the decision

making

• Reconciliation of the report generated by two types of sources i.e., Plant heads and offices

was a challenging task for the business heads

• Informative representation of sales statistics was highly essential.

Process: • eLuminous closely observed the overall working of the manufacturing plants and the controlling

offices.

• We identified the real pain areas of the top management and discussed the hurdles which were

making decision-making a tough job.

• We concluded to provide an effective reporting and reconciliation of reports and focused our BI

solution towards a cutting-edge data representation

Solution: • Using Pentaho, we designed the ETL process required for the report generation and designed the

OLAP cubes for the same to reconcile reports submitted by 2 different sources.

• Sales, Production and Cost were the 3 important dimensions for the ANALYTICAL REPORTS and

this was taken care by Pentaho analytics tool.

• Management was provided with a comprehensive dashboard and report generation facility which

ultimately benefited the management in terms of Strategy Making for Cost Reduction and over all

database management.
