As we’ve discussed, life in the New World was different than life in Canada today.

This research project will involve several stages, and you will be assessed on your ability to complete each stage. You must include the jot notes, the Question organizer, and your complete script with your assignment in order for it to be marked.

STAGE 1You will research one of the following people or groups

of people who lived in New France.

HabitantFille du Roi Coureur de BoisFirst Nation’s PersonSeigneurJesuit Priest Ursuline NunJean TalonMarguerite BourgeoysA Ouendat (Sainte-Marie among the Hurons)Engages & Indentured ServantBishop Laval

You may also include any significant person indicated in our History text from 1479- 1835. You will use this research to create a monologue from one person’s perspective.

You will answer the 5Ws and 1H about your person using the graphic organizer included in this package.

Your research will focus on Canada from the point of view of the person you are researching. This will include time and date references, specific to that era.

Your research will be conducted using JOT NOTES and you will be assessed on your ability to find the main idea in the material you are reading.

Using your research, you will write a monologue detailing a snapshot in time of your character’s life.

From your monologue, your audience will be able to recognize the 5W’s and 1H of your character, as well as their point of view of life in Canada in New France.

STAGE 2You will memorize your monologue and present it to

the class or a small group of people in the class.***You may read your monologue, but do your best to

do so while simply glancing at the sheet and using it as a guide.

***If you choose to read your monologue, how might you turn the sheet of paper into a prop? Use your imagination.

To receive a Level 4 on your research, you must use at least 3 different sources.

A bookA website (WIKIPEDIA DOESN’T COUNT)A classroom text or provided materialAn encyclopedia

You must cite all of your research materials in a bibliography. We will go over this in class, but you may also use easybib.com as reference.

***In order to cite properly, remember to keep track of the sources you use so that you don’t waste time going back to check.

***Failure to cite your sources is plagiarism!Props, costumes, and the use of set pieces is a HUGE

BONUS! Make your audience feel like you’ve transported them back in time

GR. 7 RESEARCH PROJECT – HISTORY/LANGUAGE/DRAMACULMINATING ACTIVITY FOR HISTORY UNIT – NEW FRANCE, UPPER AND LOWER CANADA. NO MORE THAN 3 PEOPLE CAN RESEARCH THE SAME PERSON/GROUP.
