History of Physical Therapy•Has been a form of treatment of pain,
physical impairments and disabilities for thousands of years.
• Physiotherapy originated from massage, manual therapy and hydrotherapy techniques to treat people earlier as in 460 BC.
History of Physical Therapy•Greek physicians like
Hippocrates are believed to have been the first practitioners of physical therapy.
•Hippocrates introduced the idea of manual manipulation for pain relief.

• Per Henrik Ling, known as "Father of Swedish Gymnastics," founded the Royal Central Institute of Gymnastics (RCIG) in 1813 for manipulation, and exercise
• Johann Georg Mezger was the Father of Swedish massage.
Importance of Massage Therapy• Massage therapy is one of the
oldest health care practices known to history.
• References to massage are found in Chinese medical texts more than 4,000 years old.
• Massage has been advocated in Western health care practices at least since the time of Hippocrates, the "Father of Medicine."
Physiotherapy VS Pharmacy• Pharmacy Deals with : Chemistry, biochemical mechanisms,
technique of preparing and dispensing drugs and actions of drugs, use of medication for the benefit of the patients.
•Physiotherapy Deals with : Human body biology, mechanics of
movement and directly interacting with patients in health-care setting.
