PART 1: WHO DO I THINK I AM?

I am Yuridia Janet Soto, I was born in Mexico City, Mexico in 1993.

INTRODUCTION

My mother is Alicia Sandoval, she was born in Michoacán,

Mexico.

My father is Angel Soto, he was born in

Veracruz, Mexico.

INTRODUCTION (CONTINUED)

My grandparents on my mom’s side are

Felipe Sandoval and Lupita Lua.

My grandparents on my father’s side are

Pascual Soto and Victoria Islas.

INTRODUCTION (CONTINUED)

My father was the first one to move to California. He came around the 1990s in

pursuit of a job.

IMMIGRATION

He first arrived in Fresno, California. He stayed with my

mom’s brothers and sisters. He worked in

the fields cutting fruits and vegetables.

IMMIGRATION (CONTINUED)

Then, my father moved back to Mexico with my mother and I.

Then, my parents decided it would be a good idea to move to

California.

My father moved back to California in 1998. He was looking for a better paying job. He

arrived in Ontario, California because he had some aunts and

uncles who lived here.

Then, I was brought to California with my father at the age of 4. I arrived in March,

1999.

After a couple of months, my mother

arrived to California. She wanted a better

future and education for me.

A few years later, my little brother, Daniel Soto, was born.

Since we arrived to Ontario, California, we have not moved out of the city. We have just moved around within the city

of Ontario.

MOBILITY

I believe my family is part of the 4th wave of immigration.

WAVES OF IMMIGRATION

Today both my parents have a good

steady job. I am receiving a higher

education.

PRESENT

My parents took a huge risk coming to

America, for a better life.

WHAT I THINK

At first, it was very hard to understand

and change to a different culture.

We have had some really difficult times in our lives, but we

have overcome them.

WHAT I THINK (CONTINUED)

But, I am very grateful for where I am today and what I have accomplished.
