Personal protective equipment helps make tire serv-icing safer. However, equipment does not take theplace of safe operating practices. Always wear durablework clothing during tire service activity. Loose fittingclothing should be avoided. Tight fitting leather glovesare recommended to protect operator’s hands whenhandling worn tires and wheels. Sturdy leather workshoes with steel toes and oil resistant soles should beused by tire service personnel to help prevent injury intypical shop activities. Eye protection is essential dur-ing tire service activity. Safety glasses with sideshields, goggles, or face shields are acceptable. Backbelts provide support during lifting activities and arealso helpful in providing operator protection.Consideration should also be given to the use of hear-ing protection if tire service activity is performed in anenclosed area, or if noise levels are high.

Only properly trained personnel shouldservice tires on the H.I.T. 6000. Read allsafety and operating instructions thor-oughly before using the tire changer.

ALWAYS remove all wheel weights and the valvecore to deflate the tire before servicing.

ALWAYS cover the electric motor and switch boxbefore hosing down the tire changer. Be sure waterdoes not enter the motor or switch box.

ALWAYS disconnect the electric power and air sup-ply before attempting any maintenance.

ALWAYS keep all working surfaces clean and free oftire lube buildup.

ALWAYS be aware of what each person is and will dobefore attempting any two-person operation.

Bead LooseningNEVER place anything between the bead loosener

disc and the tire/wheel.NEVER place any part of your body between the

bead loosener disc and the tire/wheel, severe bodilyinjury may result.

NEVER allow the bead loosener to contact thewheel, wheel damage may occur.

Demounting & MountingNEVER stand on the working table while demount-

ing or mounting a tire.ALWAYS keep hands, feet, and other objects away

from moving parts while the machine in turned on.ALWAYS place the narrow bead seat to the outside

when clamping. Failure to demount the tire from thenarrow bead seat side may cause damage to the tirebeads.

ALWAYS apply an approved rubber lubricant to rimflanges and both tire beads before demounting ormounting and seating the beads. NEVER useantifreeze, silicone, or petroleum base lubricants.

ALWAYS clean and inspect the wheel.NEVER mount a tire on a damaged or rusty wheel.

Wheel damage or rust may cause tire or wheel failureduring inflation. Explosion from failure may result insevere injury or death of the operator and bystanders.

ALWAYS be sure the bead opposite the tool is in thedrop center before rotating the tire when demountingor mounting to avoid damage to the tire beads.

InflationALWAYS follow all applicable Local, State, and

Federal Codes, Rules, and Regulations; such as theFederal OSHA Standard Number 1910.177.

NEVER seat beads or inflate a tire on the tirechanger. The H.I.T. 6000 is not designed as a safetydevice or stand for bead seating or inflation.

ALWAYS use an approved inflation chamber or infla-tion cage.

The following safety instructions are for one piecewheels only. Refer to the manufacturer’s or R.M.A.procedures for multipiece wheels.

ALWAYS use an approved inflation chamber or infla-tion cage equipped with a grip chuck and a remoteinflation gauge and valve. DO NOT OVER INFLATE!Tire or wheel failure during and after inflation mayresult in an explosion capable of causing severe injuryor death.

ALWAYS inflate the tire to manufacturer’s recom-mended cold operating pressure.

NEVER reinflate a tire that has been run underin-flated or flat w ithout first demounting the tire andchecking for wheel and tire damage.

ALWAYS inspect the tire interior for loose or brokencords, cuts, penetrating objects, and other damage tothe carcass. Discard tires that cannot be properlyrepaired.

NEVER rework, weld, heat or braze wheels.NEVER strike the tire or wheel with a hammer.ALWAYS be sure the tire diameter exactly matches

the wheel diameter.

Tire failure under pressure can be haz-ardous. Place the wheel inside an approvedinflation chamber or cage before inflating.Use an approved remote inflation valve, hose, and gauge. ALWAYS wear safety gog-gles for eye protection. Do not stand besidethe wheel or cage during inflation. Keephands and other parts of the body out ofthe cage during inflation. Observe the tirepressure frequently. Do not exceed themanufacturer’s recommended maximuminflation pressure. Electrical InstallationThe H.I.T. 6000 requires 220 volt, 3 phase or optional

single phase power source. Caution: Only a licensedelectrician should install power source and hook upthe H.I.T. 6000.

Important: Installation of this unit in an area wheregasoline, gasoline fumes, or other flammable vaporsare present requires a motor/switch riser kit (PN7120433) to meet national electrical codes; includingparagraphs 500-4, 501 (1-8), 511 (1-5), PP 70-377.

Disconnect power source and check with volt-ohmmeter to assure power is off before connecting wiresof machine.

Motor rotation must be clockwise lookingat top of motor. If counterclockwise, reverse any two of the power wires.

Principal Operating Parts

Air InstallationA quick coupler is provided for disconnecting the air

supply during maintenance procedures. The male fit-ting is on the inlet hose. The female is in the parts bagfor installation on the owner’s air supply hose.

For lubrication of internal air system, a lubricatorshould be installed in the air supply line.

O p e r a t i n g I n s t r u c t i o n sTubless Tire Bead Loosening

Remove the valve core and allow tire to deflate com-pletely. Remove all weights from wheel.

1 . Install rim stop in the appropriate position for tube-less tires. See illustration.

Position tire between bead loosener shoes: short dropcenter side toward shoe with rim stop.

Do not place any part of body between beadloosening shoes while machine is running.

2 . Adjust shoes and loosen beads: using handle, adjust bead loosener shoes on tire sidewalls 1/4-inchfrom rim contour. Depress left side of foot pedal toloosen beads. Depress right side to retract shoes. Note:for handling several wheels of the same size, anadjustable stop is provided for convenience. (See arrow.)

Never allow both bead loosening shoes to con-tact rim, since this could cause rim damage.

3 . For most tires, one operation of the bead loosenershoes will loosen both beads. However, some difficult

tires on rusty rims may require an additional operation toloosen the second bead. Here are three methods thatcan help loosen the second bead.

Spin Wheel: Retract shoes completely. Roll wheelback, spin 180 degrees and loosen opposite side as instep 2 above.

Roll Wheel: Retract shoes completely. Roll wheel for-ward firmly against the rollers and rotate it to a newposition. Reposition and loosen bead as in step 2 above.

Angle Tire: (not recommended for aluminum rims) Theshoe with the rim stop may itself be used as a rim stop.Angle the wheel so that this shoe contacts the rim andthe opposite shoe contacts the unloosened bead.

Allowing both shoes or one shoe and therim stop to contact the rim during beadloosening may cause rim damage.

Multiple Piece Rim Bead Loosening

BEFORE ATTEMPTlNG TO LOOSEN BEADS,REMOVE THE VALVE CORE AND BE SURETHE TlRE IS COMPLETELY DEFLATED. DONOT PLACE ANY PART OF THE BODYBETWEEN BEADLOOSENER SHOES.

1 . Place rim stop in tube type tire position; see illus-tration.

2 . Position tire between bead loosener shoes withthe ring(s) toward the kicker shoe.

Position bead loosener shoe with 1/4” of lock ring.

DO NOT LET SHOES PUSH ON RIM ORLOCK RING(S). RIM OR RlNGS MAYBECOME WARPED AND DAMAGED.

3 . Actuate bead loosener so that the bead loosenershoe pushes bead in. As the kicker shoe passes the

ring, pull handle to bring the kicker shoe up to thebead. Continue to full stroke of bead loosener.

4 . Disengage bead loosener shoes and turn tire 90degrees and repeat steps 1,2, & 3 until bead is loos-ened.

5 . Use bead loosen shoes to hold tire and removelock ring.

6 . To loosen other bead, remove wheel assemblyfrom between the shoes and pivot tire 180 degrees toposition the ring side of the wheel near rim stop.Repeat steps 2, 3, 4 above.

ALWAYS lNFLATE TlRES lNSlDE A SAFETYINFLATlON CAGE. TlRE EXPLOSlONDURlNG lNFLATlON CAN CAUSE SERlOUSlNJURY OR DEATH.

Clamping

1 . Raise working table: Raise working table toalmost vertical position by pulling back on the controlhandle. Open clamps by twisting the control handlecounter-clockwise.

3 . Position Wheel: Roll wheel onto the safety skirt asclose to the working top as possible. Position rimflange into the lower clamp.

4 . Clamp Rim: With the left hand on the top front ofthe rim, push the rim toward the upper two clamps. Then close the clamping jaws by twisting the controlhandle clockwise. Observe the clamping action tomake sure all three clamps are properly engaged.Lower working table to desired angle by pushing for-ward on control handle.

Make sure the short drop center side of thewheel is toward the operator. Attempting todemount tire from the long drop center sidemay damage the tire bead.

Aluminum Wheels: Many aluminum wheels aredesigned for the tire to be mounted from either side. For these wheels it is recommended to clamp with thedisc side down. However, if the wheel does have ashort drop center side, it should always be clampedwith this side up.

5 . Lubricate both beads thoroughly: Both beads andthe rim flange should be thoroughly lubricated with anapproved tire lubricant before attempting to demountthe tire. It may be easier to lubricate the bottom beadwhile the tire is in the bead loosener.

Demounting

1 . Install Mount/demount Tool: Insertmount/demount tool in square drive socket and posi-tion tool head on the rim flange. Rotate the tool headto approximately a 12 o’clock position by depressingeither foot pedal.
