The Headworks Integrated Treatment (HIT) Process Moving Bed Biolm Reactor (MBBR)
is a biolm wastewater treatment process. In the MBBR process, the microorganisms grow in
biolms attached to plastic biocarriers. The biocarriers move reely, suspended in the liquid o the
reactor or basin. Efuent screens, reerred to as sieves, keep the biocarriers in the reactor.

Complete Modular Compact
Treatment Solution
The HIT System is modular, expandable, dependable,
and simple to operate. Built to ISO container
specifcations, they are easily transportable.
BOD/niifioRMax. Capacity 475,000 GPD
(1900 m3/Day)
to nio roRMax. Capacity 135,000 GPD(500 m3/Day)
BOD/niifioRMax. Capacity 66,000 GPD
(250 m3/Day)
RSmall ootprint
RLow 20 year liecycle cost
RLower energy consumption
REase o operation with
minimal training required
RVariable modular

RQuick and easy set-up
The Headworks BIO MBBR is an excellent way to upg
a treatment plant to meet new euent nutrient li
MBBR can be used to meet new ammonia limits and
nitrogen limits. The IFAS process can be used to
new phosphorus limits. Highlighted in the photo abo
an MBBR to meet new ammonia limits at the waste
acility in Moorehead, MN. The plant is designe
6 MGD and only a small amount o the existing s
was required to treat the entire 6 MGD or nitrifc
(ammonia reduction).

Headworks Integrated Treatment
[HIT] Process offers proven
technology for treating your
wastewater for reuse within a
very small footprint.
A Screened Inuent enters system rom headworks fne screen
B Blower supplies mixing energy and process air
C Anoxic reactor or removal o total nitrogen commonly called de-nitrifcation (DNIT)
D Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) reduction reactor
E and F Nitrifcation (NIT) to reduce the ammonia limits and prepare the recycle stream
G Return ow back to the anoxic unit C or de-nitrifcation
H Clarifcation ollows the treatment process to remove suspended solids rom
the treated wastewater (e.g.: DAF, Lamella settler, etc.)
I Optional tertiary treatment (e.g.: UV disinection, sand flter etc.)
