AP-1X and AP-2X SWEEP LOSS DETECTION CIRCUIT EXPLANATION

    PAGE 01-54

(See Sweep Loss Detection Circuit for details)

The key component in the Sweep Loss Detection circuit is Q0018 andQ0022. These transistors are normally bi-ased off. When either base voltage becomes 0.6V below the emitter, it will be turned on, causing the +12V to be

applied to two different circuits, the H Blkcircuit of IC501and the Y Outcircuit of IC502 which in turn biasesoff Q3023. Either Horizontal Sweep Loss detection Q0018or Vertical Sweep Loss detection Q0022turning on,will activate the Sweep Losscircuit.

CONCERNING THE SWEEP LOSS CIRCUITThere are two factors that can cause Q0018 or Q0022 to activate; loss of Vertical and/or Horizontal deflectionwhich is sensed by monitoring H and V Blk pulses.

Loss of Vertical Blanking (V Blk)The Vertical pulse at the base of Q0024switches O0024on and off at the vertical rate. This discharges C0051sufficiently enough to prevent the base of Q0023from going high to turn it on and activating Q0022.

When the 24 Vp/p positive vertical blanking pulse is missing from C0052to the base of Q0024, the transistor

will turn off, which will cause the collector to pull up high through R0213. C0051charges up through R0213.This in turn will cause Q0023 to turn on because its base pulls up high, creating an increase of current flow fromemitter to collector. This will increase the voltage drop across R0211. The junction of R0210and R0185, which

is supplied pull up voltage from the 12Vsupply. This increase of current flow through R0211will pull the baselow and bias on Q0022and the events described in Sweep Loss Activation Circuit above will occur.

Loss of Horizontal Blanking (H Blk)The Horizontal pulse at the base of Q0020switches O0020on and off at the horizontal rate. This discharges

C0046sufficiently enough to prevent the base of Q0019from going high which would turn it on and activateQ0018.

When the 11.6 Vp/p positive horizontal blanking pulse is missing from C0047 to the base of Q0020, it will beturned off, which will cause the collector to go high through D0034, R0166, R0185as the +12V charges C0046.This in turn will cause Q0035to turn on because its base is pulled up high when zener ZD0020fires. When

Q0019turns on, an increase of current flow from emitter to collector through R0170. This increase of current

flow through R0170will bias on Q0018and the events described in Sweep Loss Activation Circuit above willoccur.

    1. SPOT ACTIVATION CIRCUITWhen the relay driver Q0001 turns off, the relay voltage raises to the source voltage. The A 12V is applied to theanode of D0036, forward biasing it. This voltage arrives at the base of Q0019turning it on. The drops the collec-tor voltage and in turn drops the base voltage of Q0018turning it on. This action activates the Horizontal Sweep

Loss circuitry Q0018 which then Mutes the output from the Rainforest IC IC501. This is done to prevent CRTburns.

(See Audio Video Mute Circuit for details)
