Hitachi Server Adapter for Microsoft® System Center Orchestrator v01.3.0 User’s Guide
Overview
Hitachi Server Adapter for Microsoft System Center Orchestrator (SCO) is an add-in for Microsoft System Center 2012 R2– Orchestrator. The Adapter
extends SCO functionality to include management of specific Hitachi server systems.
Microsoft® System Center 2012 R2– Orchestrator is a GUI-based workflow management solution for the data center. SCO creates integrated processes by allowing you to assemble individual operations, called
activities, within the SCO Runbook Designer. You can then join activities together into a process, called a runbook.
The Hitachi Server Adapter for Microsoft System Center Orchestrator uses the SCO icons and puts them together in manageable workflows to provide the information and instructions to control the sequence of activities in the
runbook. The product requires no special scripting knowledge.
SCO Components
The Adapter implementation consists of the following components:
Microsoft System Center 2012
Runbook Designer. Designs, runs, and manages the activities in the Hitachi SCO Adapter.
Runbook Server. Hosts the Runbook Designer and runs the runbook instances.
Runbook Deployment Wizard. Deploys the Hitachi Server Integration Pack file on the Runbook Server.
Management Server. A communication interface between the Runbook Designer and the Orchestration database.

Using Hitachi Runbook Activities
This chapter includes the following topics:
Activity Components
Activity Configuration
Activities
28
Activity Components
Action Description
Add Adding a server or chassis to a workflow is like
registering it. Once you specify the various parameters, according to required fields and your needs, call on those features that the parameters
represent and allow the adapter to identify. You can then use Get activities for specific runbook tasks
using the server or chassis you have already registered.
Get Get activities allow you to quickly place components like servers, power supplies, or switches into your
workflows. Get activities are often subcomponents of servers and chassis that you registered and also can be the servers and chassis themselves.
Set Set activities act as toggle switches for components such as lights and power.
Activity Configuration
To configure an activity, follow these steps:
1. From the Activities pane, drag an activity icon to the active runbook.
2. Double-click the icon. The Properties dialog box opens.
3. Configure the activity using the Details tab.
4. In the Connection section, click the ellipsis button (...), and then
select the Configuration Manager Server connection that you want to use for this activity. Click OK.
5. In the Fields section, enter a value for each of the required properties. If the property is Lookup-enabled, you can click the ellipsis (…) button next to the text box to browse for a value.
You can also use the published data to automatically populate the value of the property from the data output by a previous activity in the runbook.
For information about the settings on the General and Run Behavior tabs, see Common Configuration Instructions for All Activities.
6. Click Finish.

INFO 0x00000001 X - Enables informational logging that provides information
about the operations.
Informational logging option is usually enabled
specifically for troubleshooting
because it creates a large log file and can
slow down performance.
WARNING 0x00000000 X - The program can continue its process,
but it alerts the user.
ERROR 0x00000000 X - An error occurs, and the program stops
processing.

Log Files
The log file name is hiscoip_server.
Log files reside in the log subdirectory of the installation directory of the Hitachi Storage Integration Pack at
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft System Center
2012\Orchestrator\Extensions\Support\Integration Toolkit\{SCO
server GUID}\log
Example: {SCO server GUID} is bde0b136-4f19-41aa-8c2b-0a9d8b3aa5cb
When the log file exceeds 10 MB (1 MB=1024 bytes), it is renamed as
<logfilename>.bak, and a new log file is created. When an older file
(<logfilename>.bak) already exists, it is overwritten.
A log file has the following format:
One log item per line
In each log item, the following columns are connected with a blank.

Log Setting
The log levels can be set by the variable DebugLevel in the
HiLogger.config configuration file.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft System Center
2012\Orchestrator\Extensions\Support\Integration Toolkit\{SCO
server GUID}
Example: {SCO server GUID} is bde0b136-4f19-41aa-8c2b-0a9d8b3aa5cb
The DebugLevel can have one of these values: MINIMAL, NORMAL, or VERBOSE.
116
Log Rotation
Multiple log generation and rotation of the adapter log files create multiple Hitachi Storage Integration Pack logs.
The log generation and rotation of the adapter log files allows you to
Log the multiple processes to the same file
Determine the maximum number of consecutive files by using your specified parameter or a system default
Rotate the current or active log file by incrementing the log file name, appending consecutive numbers that start from zero to a user-specified limit or a system default
Log the entries that are written to a temporary file when the log file is locked at the time of the rotation. The backup file is created and rotation stops. After the log file is unlocked, rotation
continues, but the temporary files are not deleted.
Specify a maximum log file size in HiLogger.config by creating
a key call [MaxFileSize] in a separate line. The minimum value
is 5 MB. The maximum value is 100 MB.
If [MaxFileSize] is not specified in HiLogger.config, the
default value is 10 MB.
If [MaxFileSize] is out of range, the value is the default of
10 MB.
Specify a maximum backup log file in HiLogger.config by
creating a key call [MaxBackupIndex] in a separate line.
MaxBackupIndex minimum value is 1, and the maximum value is 255.
If [MaxBackupIndex] is not specified in HiLogger.config, the
default value is 5.
If [MaxBackupIndex] value is out of range, it defaults to 5.
Frequently Asked Questions

HDP
Hitachi dynamic provisioning pool
HDP Pool
Consists of one or more dedicated RAID groups. Up to 50 DP pools in the AMS 2100 and 64 DP pools in the AMS2300/2500 are allowed. Each pool requires a unique pool ID.
Hitachi Dynamic Provisioning (HDP)
Advanced thin-provisioning software product that provides Virtual Storage Capacity to simplify administration and addition of storage,
eliminate application service interruptions, and reduce costs.
HDP Optimization
An HDP pool can be optimized by rebalancing each HDP-VOL’s allocated pool capacity evenly across each of the RAID groups. This is particularly effective after adding a RAID group to the HDP pool.
HDP Pool Capacity
Amount of total capacity assigned to a given HDP pool
130
HDP Pool Capacity Threshold
Initial warning levels of high pool utilizations upon early (default 40%) and depletion (50%) conditions.
HDP Pool Consumed Capacity
Amount of pool capacity already consumed
HDP RAID Group
One or more physical RAID Groups that belong to the same HDP pool
HDP-VOL
A virtual LU that consumes and maps storage space for areas of the LU that have had data written to them. In HDP, it is required to associate the HDP-VOL with a HDP pool. The HDP-VOL needs to specify a HDP
pool ID, HDP-VOL logical capacity, and HDP-VOL number. Many HDP-VOLs can be defined for on HDP pool. A given HDP-VOL cannot be
defined to multiple DP pools.
HDvM
Hitachi HiCommand Device Manager
Hitachi Tiered Provisioning
New to VSP arrays, allows automated provisioning of HDP pools and volumes based on device performance characteristics

Q
R
RAID
Redundant array of inexpensive disks
RAID Group
A redundant array of inexpensive drives (RAID) that have the same capacity and are treated as one group for data storage and recovery. A RAID group contains both user data and parity information, which
allows the user data to be accessed if one or more of the drives within the RAID group are not available. The RAID level of a RAID group
determines the number of data drives and parity drives and how the data is striped across the drives. For RAID1, user data is duplicated within the RAID group, so there is no parity data for RAID1 RAID
groups.
A RAID group can also be called an array group or a parity group.
