SAFETY RULESPlease read this operators manual before handling your firearm. The following safety rules are placed in this manual by Heckler & Koch as animportant reminder that firearms safety is your responsibility. Firearms can be dangerous and can potentially cause serious injury, damage to property ordeath, if handled improperly.

1. Never point a firearm at anyone, or in any direction other than a SAFE direction, i.e. downrange.2. Treat all firearms as if they are always loaded.3. Keep your finger off the trigger and outside of the trigger guard until your sights are aligned on the target and you are ready to fire.4. Keep your finger off the trigger and outside of the trigger guard while loading or unloading the firearm.5. Keep your finger off the trigger and outside of the trigger guard while pulling the firearm out of the holster or while returning it to the holster.6. Be sure of your target and the back stop beyond.7. Never give a firearm to or take a firearm from anyone unless the action is open and the magazine and/or chamber are free of any

ammunition or brass.8. Be sure that the ammunition you are using is factory loaded, is of the correct caliber for the firearm in which it is to be used, and that it is

not damaged in any way.9. Before firing, remove the magazine from the firearm, lock the action open, make sure the chamber is clear of any ammunition or brass,

and check the barrel of the unloaded firearm for any possible obstructions.10. Before firing any firearm that is unfamiliar to you, make sure that you understand exactly how it functions. A lack of familiarity with the

firearm can result in serious accidents. Attend a certified training course on any firearm which you intend to use or with which you are notsufficiently familiar.

11. Always wear hearing and eye protection when using your firearm.12. Keep all body parts, especially the hands and fingers, away from the muzzle to avoid injury or burns.13. Be sure that no part of either hand touches or interferes with the slide. The slide is moved backwards by the recoil force of the pistol during

firing and may cause serious injury.14. Firearms should be stored separately from ammunition and beyond the reach of children, and/or any untrained individuals.15. Avoid the use of any alcoholic beverages or drugs before and during the use of any firearm. 16. Discharging firearms in poorly ventilated areas, cleaning firearms, or handling ammunition may result in exposure to lead, a substance

known to be associated with birth defects, reproductive harm, and other serious injury. Have adequate ventilation at all times. Wash handsthoroughly after exposure.

17. Most firearms will fire if the trigger is pulled, even if a loaded or empty magazine is being removed or inserted. A cartridge in the chamberwill discharge when the trigger is pulled with the magazine inserted or removed from the firearm. Never leave a firearm unattended, evenif the magazine is removed. Exercise extreme caution after removing the magazine and personally verify that the chamber is also emptybefore field-stripping the firearm for cleaning or any other reason.

SECTION 1 INTRODUCTION

Like the slightly larger P2000 US model, the P2000SK(SubKompact) Subcompact combines elements of thesuccessful HK USP Compact pistol with recenttechnological innovations from HK engineers—only ina smaller, more concealable design.

This unique pre-cocked hammer system combines theadvantages of a cocked striker component (constantlevel of trigger pull and short trigger travel from first tolast round fired) with the double action hammersystem. This ensures an extremely safe pistol withregard to unintended firing and, in case of failure toignite, the possibility of a second or third trigger pullwithout the need of first pulling the slide back to recock the system.

The LEM trigger pull has been reduced to 7.3-8.5pounds of pressure (32.5 Newtons), compared to 12-15 pounds found on many conventional double actionpistols. Optional adjustment (by HK armorers) canbring the trigger pull into the 5.5 pound range.

Ambidextrous slide release levers and magazine

release levers make handling the P2000SK naturaland easy for right and left-handed shooters. Easy-to-install modular grips allow the P2000SK to be furthercustom-fitted to any shooter’s hand.

A set of abbreviated “industry standard” mounting railson the P2000SK Subcompact, enable lights, aimers, and other accessories to be added by sliding themonto the open rail system. The HK P2000SKSubcompact also can use widely available, reliableUSP Compact magazines.

Due to its modular design, the P2000SK can be fittedto the individual needs of the shooter. A highly reliable, safe, durable, and accurate subcompact pistol withsignificant ergonomic features, the P2000SK iscurrently available in .40 S&W and 9mm.

Significant features include:• a set of industry-standard mounting rails for installing

accessories • ambidextrous slide release (located on both sides of

the frame)

Page 8: H&K P2000SK (Subcompact) Semi-automatic Pistol Manual

8

• ideal size for concealed carry • optional magazine disconnect • ambidextrous magazine release lever • corrosion proof fiber-reinforced polymer frame • polygonal bore profile for increased velocity, easier

cleaning, and longer barrel life • low profile slide and slimline, compact dimensions • very short trigger reset distance to enhance the

speed of multiple or follow-up shots • replaceable grip panels for custom fit • polymer recoil absorber bushing aids in recoil

reduction • corrosion resistant “Hostile Environment” blued finish• oversized tapered trigger guard for use with gloves • patented Lock-Out Safety device • limited lifetime warranty for civilian sales / one year

for law enforcement and military• set of “industry standard” mounting grooves molded

into the polymer frame for installing accessory lightsand laser aimers

• Advanced design with contoured external surfaces toavoid snagging on holster and clothing

The P2000SK uses a modified Browning-type action, much like the HK USP, USP Compact, and P2000; and

like those pistols, the P2000SK Subcompact also usesa propriety HK mechanical recoil reduction system. This system consists of a specially designed recoilspring assembly.

The polymer frame of the P2000SK was designedusing technical experience gained by HK engineers inthe development of the world’s first composite materialpistols, the HK VP70Z and P9S, and more recentmodels like the USP, USP Compact, and P2000.These same high-strength/corrosion free materials areused in the Mark 23/MK 23 handgun made by Heckler& Koch for the U.S. Special Operations Command.

Major metal components like the one-piece, machinedsteel slide are also corrosion resistant, treated with aspecial “HE” (Hostile Environment) protective finish. TheHE finish is an extremely hard, nitro-gas carburizedblack oxide coating which resists much of the worsttypes of corrosion and wear, including limited exposureto salt water.

P2000SK pistols are fitted with the Law EnforcementModification (LEM) trigger and operate much likestandard Double-Action Only (DAO) variants of theUSP and USP Pistol. However, the way in which the

Page 9: H&K P2000SK (Subcompact) Semi-automatic Pistol Manual

9

LEM hammer is cocked is unique. The hammer in theLEM is a two-piece hammer comprised of a cockingpiece (not visible with the pistol assembled) and anexternal (visible) hammer.

The hammer on a conventional Double-Action (DA) orDAO pistol is normally drawn to the rear, fully cockedand automatically released by the relatively longrearward pull of the trigger by the operator.

To insure reliable primer ignition even under adverseconditions the hammer spring that drives the hammerforward is relatively strong.

In a conventional DA or DAO pistol the operator isforced to compress the hammer spring by squeezingthrough the entire DA trigger pull while at the sametime trying to hold the sights in alignment for accurateaiming. This can be difficult especially if the operatorshand strength is marginal.

To address this problem, HK devised the unique LawEnforcement Modification. In the LEM system thequality of the trigger pull is improved while at the sametime a stronger hammer spring can be employed to

improve reliability by increasing the firing pin indent onthe primer. The stronger hammer spring also helps toreduce the slide velocity when firing “hot” ammunition.

The P2000SK with LEM function installed uses therearward movement of the slide during loading or firingto fully compress the hammer spring instead of relyingon the rearward pull of the trigger as in conventionalDA or DAO systems.

The cocking piece and hammer are rotated rearwardon the hammer axle when the slide moves fully rear-ward. When fully to the rear the cocking piece is heldin the cocked position by the sear and the hammerspring has been fully compressed by the hammer strut. As the slide travels forward the hammer is rotated backto and held in the forward position by the hammerrebound spring.

When the trigger is pulled rearward against thecombined force (@ 7.5 – 8.5 pounds new) of thetrigger, hammer rebound, firing pin block, and searsprings the internal passive safeties are disengagedand the sear releases the cocking piece. The cockingpiece is then free to rotate the hammer forward on its

magazines used by USP Compacts and have a series ofviewing holes on the back side for counting the cartridgesremaining inside. USP Compact magazines (of the correctcaliber) will also fit the P2000SK Subcompact

An extended magazine floor plate with a durable fingerextension is provided on the standard P2000SKmagazine. A flat floorplate magazine is also availableand offers increased concealibility. Floorplates on allmagazines can be removed for cleaning andmaintenance. The polymer floorplate offers a level ofprotection to the magazine if dropped.

WARNING: P2000SK Subcompact pistols, exceptspecial models with a magazine disconnect featureinstalled, will fire if the magazine is removed, acartridge is in the chamber, and the trigger ispressed

To reduce barrel wear, P2000SK have polygonal coldhammer-forged barrels. This feature not only ensureslonger barrel life and easier bore cleaning, butproduces a better gas seal behind the bullet forincreased muzzle velocity.

axle under pressure of the compressed hammer springimparted through the hammer strut to strike the firingpin and fire the chambered round.

P2000SK pistols have an ambidextrous magazinerelease lever which is shielded from inadvertentactuation by the flared trigger guard. The magazinerelease lever can be pressed with the thumb or indexfinger of the firing hand, in most cases withoutadjusting the firing grip.

Another unique feature making the P2000SK trulyambidextrous is the presence of a slide release onboth sides of the frame. These slide release levers arepositioned to allow easy actuation without adjustmentof the grip of the shooting hand and are easilyremoved during operator disassembly.

Low profile 3-dot sights are standard on the P2000SKpistol. The rear sight is drift adjustable for windage.Elevation changes can be made by replacing the frontsight blade with an accessory sight of a different height.

The P2000SK pistol uses metal magazines to minimizethe grip size. These are a shortened version of the

Page 11: H&K P2000SK (Subcompact) Semi-automatic Pistol Manual

11

A set of industry standard mounting grooves forinstalling accessories is molded in the polymer frameof the P2000SK Subcompact. While these grooves areshorter than the rails found on the standard sizedP2000 pistol, they still allow a wide variety ofaccessories and targeting devices to be mounted onthe P2000SK without modification to the pistol.

NOTE: Improperly designed or installed accessoriesmay result in damage to the P2000SK mountinggrooves and/or the P2000SK pistol. Such damage isnot covered under the limited lifetime warranty. Becertain to use only HK authorized accessories andfollow installation and precautions carefully.

The extractor of the P2000SK pistol doubles as aloaded chamber indicator anytime a live cartridge orempty case is present in the chamber. A red paintedportion of the extractor, or its protruding tactile feel, indicates the chamber is loaded.

The P2000SK is an extremely safe firearm with bothpassive and active safeties. The user activated HKLock-Out Device is also installed on the P2000SK(see page 44 for more information on this feature).Safe, simple to field strip and maintain, the P2000SKSubcompact is a reliable and trouble-free pistol.

At Heckler & Koch, form follows function. All HK pistols are designed and manufactured to meet theoperational requirements of demanding users and theP2000SK is no exception. In a world of compromise, some don’t.

SECTION 3 FUNCTION AND OPERATION

WARNING: Always clear the pistol before handling it.

Clearing the Pistol The HK P2000SK is not considered“clear” or safe unless:

1. The magazine is removed from the pistol and;2. The slide is locked to the rear and;3. The chamber is free of brass or ammunition.

To Clear the HK P2000SK pistol:1. Make sure fingers are outside of the trigger

guard and the pistol is pointed in a safedirection at all times!

2. Remove magazine - depress the magazinerelease lever and remove the magazine from thepistol.

3. Open and lock slide - while pointing the pistolin a safe direction lock the slide open by pullingthe slide rearward as you press the slide releaseupward. Watch for a cartridge or empty case to beejected from the pistol.

4. Inspect chamber - inspect chamber for the

presence of a cartridge or empty case by:

• Visually viewing chamber through open ejectionport and;

• Physically inserting finger into chamber throughejection port to check for the presence of acartridge or empty case.

Remove any cartridges or empty cases from the chamber or from within the pistol.

The HK P2000SK Pistol with LEM parts is now considered “Clear”.

General - (Refer to Figure 1 and 2 for the location ofthe features described on page 12)

The Heckler & Koch P2000SK pistol is recoil operatedand uses a modified Browning style system, without alink, to lock and unlock the barrel.

Upon firing, the pressure developed by the propellantgases forces the slide and barrel assembly to the rear.

Page 15: H&K P2000SK (Subcompact) Semi-automatic Pistol Manual

15

After moving approximately 3mm, the locking block willstop the rearward movement of the barrel. The barrel ispulled downward due to the engagement of the angledlocking surfaces of the locking block with those locatedon the end of the recoil spring guide rod. The lockingblock disengages from the slide and the slide continuesrearward independently from the barrel. The extractor, located on the right side of the slide extracts the spentcase. The ejector, positioned in the left side of theframe, rearward of the magazine well then ejects thefired cartridge case. The rearward moving slide thencocks the hammer, and compresses the recoil spring.

Once fully to the rear, the compressed recoil springpushes the slide forward, stripping the next cartridgefrom the magazine into the chamber. If the magazine isempty, the magazine follower lifts the slide release intoposition where it can stop the forward progress of theslide and holds the slide open. If a cartridge is presentin the magazine, the slide will push the cartridge fromthe magazine and into the chamber.

WARNING: Do not rely on the slide position to deter-mine if the magazine is empty. Always check visuallyand physically ensure the pistol is not loaded.

During the last 3mm of forward movement, the slideforces the angled surfaces of the barrel locking blockagainst opposing angled surfaces on the recoil springguide rod. This action pivots the locking block on thebarrel up into engagement with the ejection port on theslide. The breech is now locked closed and the nextshot can be fired.

CAUTION: A set of mounting grooves located on thefront of the P2000SK model’s frame allows for acces-sories to be used with the pistol. Improperly de-signed or installed accessories may result in dam-age to the mounting grooves and/or the pistol. Suchdamage is not covered under warranty. Be certain touse only HK approved accessories and follow instal-lation and precautions carefully.

Page 16: H&K P2000SK (Subcompact) Semi-automatic Pistol Manual

16

OPERATING CONTROLS AND COMPONENTS

WARNING: The P2000SK incorporates double-action only mode of operation. Anytime the triggeris pulled with a cartridge in the chamber, the pistolwill fire from the hammer down position.

In the double-action only mode, the hammer always returns to the uncocked (forward) position after eachshot. All shots are fired in the double-action only mode.

Magazine - The P2000SK magazines are constructed of metal with polymer floor plates, followers, and lockingplate pieces. Cartridges are positioned within the magazine in a staggered arrangement but are fed intothe pistol from a single row under the feed lips. Thecartridges are visible through the numbered viewingholes located in the back of the magazine. For maintenance and cleaning, all P2000SK magazinescan be disassembled.

No Magazine Disconnect Feature - For maximumfunctionality, most P2000SK models are not equippedwith a magazine disconnect feature and can be firedwith the magazine removed from the pistol. The ability

to fire a semiautomatic pistol while in the process ofloading or unloading is considered critical in a military, law enforcement, or personal defense encounter. Amagazine disconnect is available as an optionalfeature on new P2000SK pistols or can be retrofitted toexisting guns, please contact HK Customer Service for more information (tel. 703-450-1900).

NOTE: To verify the presence or absence of themagazine disconnect feature, CLEAR THE P2000SK(see page 14), ensuring the chamber is empty, thepistol is unloaded, and pointed in a safe direction. With the magazine removed, squeeze the trigger. Ifcompressing the trigger activates the hammer andthe pistol “dry fires”, no magazine disconnect isinstalled. If compressing the trigger fails to activatethe hammer, a magazine disconnect is present.

WARNING: P2000SK pistols, except special modelswith a magazine disconnect feature installed, willfire if the magazine is removed, a cartridge is in thechamber, and the trigger is pressed.

Ambidextrous Slide Release - A slide release lever islocated on the both left and right side of the frame

Page 17: H&K P2000SK (Subcompact) Semi-automatic Pistol Manual

17

directly above the trigger. These levers are used to lockthe slide open, to release the slide, and to disassemble the pistol.

As a slide stop, it is lifted upward by the magazinefollower or the operators finger as the slide travelsrearward during recoil or manual manipulation. Theslide release engages in the recess located on the leftside of the slide at it’s midpoint. The slide release isspring actuated and is held down out of engagementwith the slide until required. The slide release will automatically hold the slide open when the last shot isfired. As a disassembly lever, the left side slide releaseis removed from the left side of the frame when theslide is held partially rearward. During disassembly, theslide release on the right side of the pistol remainsattached to the frame until it is rotated upwardapproximately 45° and lifted off the frame.

Magazine Release Lever - This ambidextrous, springactuated lever holds the magazine in place within thegrip by engaging in the notch found on the front of themagazine housing. Depressing this lever downwardwith the firing index finger or thumb will allow themagazine, regardless of the number of cartridgesinside, to drop free of the frame. The magazine release

lever is shielded from accidental actuation by thedesign of the polymer frame and flared trigger guardsurrounding it.

Frame - All sides of the polymer frame are textured toensure a firm grip, even with wet hands or under conditions of rapid fire. The trigger guard is taperedwith the front surface grooved to provide a firm gripwhen using two hands or gloves to fire the pistol. Theframe is a one-piece molded component with metal inserts (locking insert and guiding part) cast into theframe during production. The slide rides on these metalinserts during operation.

The front of the frame exterior contains mountinggrooves for the attachment of accessories. The bottomrear of the frame has finger recesses located to the leftand right of the magazine well for manual extraction ofthe magazine, if necessary. The serial number of thepistol is engraved in the metal insert incorporated intothe front of the frame in front of the trigger guard, on theleft side of the slide, and on the barrel locking block.

Sights - The P2000SK uses the proven 3-dot sightingarrangement. By aligning all three dots horizontally onthe target, with the front sight dot centered between the

Page 18: H&K P2000SK (Subcompact) Semi-automatic Pistol Manual

18

rear sight dots, the operator can quickly and easily engagethe target with a high degree ofaccuracy (See Figure 3).

The rear sight can be adjustedfor windage by drifting the sightto the left or to the right, depending on the desired shotplacement. Bullet impact ontarget will move in the same direction that the rear sight ismoved. Be careful not to

damage the slide finish when adjusting the rear sight.

Adjustments for elevation are accomplished by exchanging the front sight with a higher or lower sight. The height of the front sight is indicated on the bottom

of the sight blade. The front sight must be removed byusing a drift punch or an HK-approved sight pusher(contact HK Customer Service Staff for moreinformation at (703) 450-1900).

To raise the bullet impact on target, a shorter frontsight is installed. To lower the bullet impact on target, a taller front sight is installed. Installing the next higheror lower front sight will change the point-of-impact 2inches at 25 meters, depending on the ammunitionused. P2000SK are function fired and zeroed at the factory at 25 meters, point-of-aim, point-of-impact. Youractual zero may vary depending on the ammunitionused and/or your style of shooting.

SECTION 4 AMMUNITION

WARNING: Heckler & Koch specifically disclaims anyresponsibilities for any damage or injury that shouldoccur because of, or as a result of, the use of faulty, remanufactured, or reloaded (hand loaded) ammunition,or of cartridges other than those for which the pistol wasoriginally chambered for.

The HK P2000SK is designed to fire quality, factoryloaded ammunition loaded to NATO or SAAMI specifications for use specifically in handguns.

The following guidelines should be considered whenselecting the correct ammunition for your pistol.

1. Be sure the ammunition you have chosen is compatible with your pistol – proper caliber, cartridge, bullet weight, etc. Caliber markings on the P2000SKpistol appear on the left side of the slide and on thebarrel locking block, visible through the ejection port on the right side of the slide.

2. Prior to loading the magazine and chamber, carefullyinspect all cartridges for the following abnormalities:

• Cracked, split, dirty or corroded cases• Improperly seated projectiles and/or primers• Damaged projectiles

3. Do not attempt to fire a cartridge in which the projectilehas been forced back into the case. Upon firing, thiscondition may result in increased chamber pressureabove safe limits.

4. Do not fire ammunition through the pistol that:• Is foreign and/or outdated military surplus • Is assembled with corrosive primer and/or

propellant• Is exposed to oil, grease, water, or direct sunlight.

Remove contaminants if possible before use and cool down ammunition exposed to direct sunlight or heat. (Exposure to sources of heatcould raise the chamber pressure of the cartridgeabove safe limits.)

• Is loaded specifically for use in submachine guns.

Page 20: H&K P2000SK (Subcompact) Semi-automatic Pistol Manual

20

CAUTION: HK firearms are designed to function withquality manufactured brass cased ammunition. Useof steel or aluminum cased cartridges is notrecommended and could adversely affect safe andreliable functioning. Use of cast lead bullets is alsonot recommended.

NOTE: Use of +P and +P+ ammunition accelerateswear and reduces the service life on the componentparts of any pistol, including the HK P2000SKSubcompact and is not recommended. For furtherinformation on ammunition selection, contact HKCustomer Service at 703-450-1900.

24

Unloading the Pistol -To unload the pistol, follow the “Clearing” procedure.

Clearing the Pistol The HK P2000SK pistol is notconsidered “clear” or safe unless:

1. The magazine is removed from the pistol and;2. The slide is locked to the rear and;3. The chamber is free of brass or ammunition.

To Clear the HK P2000SK:1.

4. Inspect chamber - inspect chamber for thepresence of a cartridge or empty case by:• Visually viewing chamber through open ejection

port and;

• Physically inserting finger into chamber throughejection port to check for the presence of acartridge or empty case.

Remove any cartridges or empty cases from the chamber or from within the pistol.

The HK P2000SK Pistol is now considered “Clear”.

If the pistol fails to fire, clear and disassemble it andcheck for:

1. Obstructions in the chamber, bore or frame.Remove obstructions.

2. Bad ammunition.Try new ammunition.3. Damaged magazine. Replace magazine.4. Fouling or lack of lubrication. Clean and lubricate

the pistol in accordance with the instructions contained within this manual.

and most importantly the trigger. The design of the holster must also not actuate these controlswhen the pistol is carried in, drawn from, orreturned to the holster.

2. The holster should not cause the slide to move(unlock) when the pistol is returned to the holster.

3. Accommodations must be provided in the holster for any accessories that might be presenton the pistol.

4. Choose a holster designed specifically for the HK P2000SK pistol.

Returning the pistol to the holster. The P2000SKmust be made “safe” (or cleared) prior to returning it to the holster. The pistol is considered safe to return itto the holster when:

1. All fingers are off of the trigger and out of the trigger guard and;

2. The pistol is “clear”.

WARNING: The pistol must never be returned to theholster unless the above procedures have been followed or injury or death could occur.

WARNING: If a cartridge is assembled withoutpowder (a fault of the manufacturing process), theprimer alone has enough power to propel the bulletinto the bore. A bullet lodged in the bore may causedamage to the barrel and/or pistol if another car-tridge is fired and could cause personal injury oreven death. This event is commonly called a “squibload” or “pop and no kick” and is characterized by areduced report and little or no movement of theslide. An alert operator could notice the occurrenceof this event in time to avoid firing the nextcartridge.

Selection and Use of a Holster

Selection. When selecting a carrying holster for the HKP2000SK Pistols, it is important to consider thefollowing points:

1. The holster must not make contact with or actuateany of the operating controls. This includes thehammer, slide release, magazine release lever,

Page 26: H&K P2000SK (Subcompact) Semi-automatic Pistol Manual

26

Storage and Transport -1. Store or transport the pistol and its components

clean and lubricated.2. Store and transport the pistol without cartridges in

the chamber, magazine, or in the storage container.3. Store and transport the pistol with the slide forward

and the hammer down (uncocked).4. Clean and lubricate the pistol and it’s components

at least every twelve (12) months during storage.5. Store the pistol and it’s components in a clean, dry,

dust-free environment with regulated temperaturecontrols.

6. Store the pistol and ammunition separately underlock and key.

Long Term Pistol Storage - Anytime the slide is movedfully rearward on the P2000SK the hammer spring iscompressed and held in that position until the cockingpiece is released by pulling the trigger on the pistol. Therefore for long-term storage (more than 1 year) it issuggested that the pistol first be CLEARED (refer topage 29) and made safe then pointed in a safedirection and dry fired to release pressure on thehammer spring to maintain its life span. Storemagazines empty to maintain maximum spring lifespan.

NOTE: For optimal long term storage, clear theP2000SK and release pressure on the cockingpiece and hammer spring by dry firing the pistolone time.

Interchangeable Grip Panels (Backstraps)

Removal - Ensure the P2000SK is CLEAR anddecocked (see page 24) and the magazine isremoved. Dry firing the pistol will relieve any tensionon the hammer spring prior to removal of the grippanel. With an appropriate metal punch, carefully tapout the lanyard loop roll pin (See Figure 6).

Extract the pin once it is protruding from the frame. When the pin is removed, the grip panel can be sliddownward off the frame (See Figure 7). Take care thatthe hammer strut and hammer spring do not fall out of the frame and become lost or damaged.

Figure 6 Figure 7

Installation - Ensure the hammer strut and hammerspring are properly positioned on the back of the frame(See Figure 8). Place the replacement grip panel onthe back of the frame approximately 1 inch (2.54cm)lower than its assembled position (See Figure 9) andpush the grip panel up onto the grip rails.

Figure 8 Figure 9

As the grip panel slides upwards onto the grip rails, the hammer spring will compress slightly creatingresistance. Continue to slide the grip panel upwarduntil it fits flush and there is no gap between the top of the grip panel and frame.

Page 28: H&K P2000SK (Subcompact) Semi-automatic Pistol Manual

28

At this point, the pin holes on the grip panel and theframe will line up. Carefully reinsert the pin and push itthrough the grip panel and frame using finger pressure(See Figure 10).

With the pin properly aligned in the grip panel and theframe, carefully tap the pin until it is fully seated andcentered in the frame (See Figure 11).

Cleaning Intervals - Normal and Major are the twotypes of operator cleaning for the P2000SK Pistol.

Normal Cleaning - Performed after each firing or everytwelve (12) months.

Major Cleaning - Often referred to as “detailed cleaning”. Performed after the firing of 500 cartridges or when the pistol is exposed to, or laden throughoutwith sand, dust, water (especially salt water), or othervisible contaminants or foreign matter.

Normal Cleaning

CAUTION: Do not use a stainless steel bore brush whichcan scratch the polygonal bore and reduce accuracy.

Slide -• Gently scrub all internal surfaces of the slide using

the nylon toothbrush moistened with solvent.• Remove all loose fouling from all surfaces of the slide

using a rag and cotton swabs.

SECTION 7 CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

NOTE:The service life and performance of your HKP2000SK Subcompact pistol is dependent upon thecorrect handling and proper care by the operator.

Materials Required - At a minimum, we suggest the following materials to properly clean the P2000SK

• Cleaning rod with handle and patch holder• Nylon toothbrush• Bronze bristle bore brush (in the appropriate caliber)• Cleaning patches (in the appropriate caliber)• Lint-free wiping rag• Cleaning solvent/lubricant• Cotton swabs

CAUTION: Use safety goggles when using solventsand exercise care if using compressed air.

HK Handgun Cleaning Kits, #701956 (9mm &.357SIG), #701957 (.40 S&W), and #701958 (.45ACP)are available from HK for thorough cleaning of HKpistols and other firearms.

Recoil spring assembly -• Remove all visible fouling using solvent, a nylon

toothbrush, a rag and cotton swabs.Barrel (with locking block) -• Moisten a bronze bore brush with solvent and scrub

the bore from chamber to muzzle at least six (6)passes, back and forth.

• Remove the loose fouling from the bore using cleaning patches.

• Gently scrub the exterior of the barrel and locking blockwith the nylon toothbrush moistened with solvent.

• Remove all loose fouling from the exterior of the barrel using a rag and cotton swabs.

Frame -• Gently scrub all internal surfaces where carbon

fouling is present using the nylon toothbrush moistened with solvent. Concentrate on the areanormally covered by the slide.

• Using a rag and cotton swabs, remove all loosefouling from all areas of the frame.

Magazine - • Gently scrub the top of the magazine, concentrating

on the follower and feed lips, using the nylontoothbrush moistened with solvent.

• Using a rag and cotton swabs, remove all loosefouling from all surfaces of the magazine.

Major Cleaning - Major Cleaning is the same asnormal cleaning except that:• The magazine is disassembled for cleaning.• All parts should be rinsed with, or immersed in,

solvent and thoroughly scrubbed with a nylon brush. The parts can then be dried using compressed air orwith a rag and cotton swabs.

NOTE: All parts of the P2000SK can be immersed inany cleaning solvent that it is safe to put your handsinto, including ultrasonic cleaning solution. Use ofultrasonic cleaning machines can result in theunwanted removal of colored reference markings ofthe frame, extractor, and control lever (whereapplicable).

Inspection -

During and after cleaning visually inspect the pistol andit’s components for any irregularities that may causeproblems or stoppages during operation. Generally, youshould keep a watchful eye out for the discrepancieslisted below.

Page 42: H&K P2000SK (Subcompact) Semi-automatic Pistol Manual

42

Lubrication

Metal surfaces of the P2000SK pistol are treated withHK’s special corrosion & wear resistant finish. Thissurface treatment does not completely reduce thefriction between moving parts and it is recommendedthat a lubricant be applied to the pistol to ensure properfunctioning. Any type of high-quality, medium weightlubricant (oil) specifically designed for use on firearmswill work well on the P2000SK. Do not use lubricantsthat boast of their ability to penetrate metal as thesesubstances may deaden primers.

Where and How Much -

No Lube - Surface is dry and not slippery to the touch

• All plastic and rubber components

Light Lube - A finger run across the surface yields littleor no lube

• Bore, chamber, and exterior of barrel• All metal parts• All internal parts in slide and frame

Always clear the pistol before conducting your inspection!

• Damaged or missing parts• Improper assembly or function• Absence of free movement, where applicable• Absence of spring tension, where applicable• Unaccustomed looseness• Parts exhibiting signs of cracks, burrs, dents, or

obvious signs of damage or stress• Presence of stops or tactile clicks, where applicable.• General overall cleanliness• Presence of sufficient lubrication• Presence of corrosion or degradation of surface finish

CAUTION: This pistol has been developed bycapable and experienced engineers. Its presentdesign represents an optimization of a combinationof safety, speed of deployment, accuracy, depend-ability, and durability. Do not attempt to make thispistol “better” by altering any of its components. Al-tering any part of the pistol or magazine may causeinjury or death and will also void any Heckler & Kochwarranty on the product.

Page 43: H&K P2000SK (Subcompact) Semi-automatic Pistol Manual

43

• Magazine spring• Recoil spring assembly• Sights• Metal magazine housing, where applicable

Medium Lube - A finger run across the surface yieldssome lube but lube does not run down surface when itis held in a vertical position.

• Barrel locking block• Slide rails and grooves• All operating controls• Locking insert and guiding part in frame• Extractor

Heavy Lube - Lubrication runs down the surfacewhen it is held in a vertical position

No heavy lube is required on the HK P2000SKReapply lubricant periodically during firing as it burnsoff from the heat. Apply lubricant using a clean shavingbrush, cotton swabs, patches, or rag. A spray bottle oflubricant also works well when using compressed air tocirculate the lubricant into all parts and to remove theexcess from the pistol.
