Holophane High Mast Series HMST luminaires provide the best com- bination of horizontal and vertical illumination in high mast lighting by unitizing a prismatic glass reflector and refractor. This combination can deliver pole spacing of up to eight mounting heights. Combine the long spacing with a 40°C ambient rating for long ballast component life and a multi- stage pretreatment and paint process over die cast aluminum housings and that translates into less installation cost and lower life cycle cost for the entire high mast lighting system. The HMST Series offers 35 different combinations of wattage and distributions, including cutoff type systems, to satisfy all high mast application lighting requirements. No optical deterioration

Reflecting prisms are permanentlysealed from contact with allcontaminants. The aluminumcover uses RTV 108 siliconesealant at top and bottom toprovide an airtight seal.

Less dirt depreciation

Unlike fixtures with bottomclosures that bake on contam-inants, the open optics allowscontinuous airflow to keep theinner glass clean.

Less costly poles

1.38 sq. ft. EPA refractor unitsrequire smaller poles and foun-dations than 2.0 sq. ft. EPA en-closed reflector fixtures.

Light trespass

Refractor optics can provide IEScutoff distributions.

Prismatic refractor

Provides enhanced vertical illumin-ation and widest spacings.

Extended ballast life

40° C ambient UL listing ensures11/2 to 2 times normal life whenoperated at 25° C.

• Unitized electrical assembly

• Optimized light control

• Symmetric, asymmetric and long

and narrow distributions

• Less dirt depreciation

HMST® HIGH MAST LIGHTINGBallast assembly is provided with quick disconnects for fast installation orremoval. UL listing for 40°C ambients provides extended ballast and capacitor life.

Weathertight design UL wet location listed.

Variety of lamp positions raises or lowers main optical beam to providedifferent fixture spacing ratios.

Die-cast aluminum housing provides a corrosion resistant enclosure forballast components.

Terminal block provides for positive lead connection and is pre-wired to thequick disconnect.

Adjustable slipfitter bracket entry is designed for 51mm (2") nominalpipe and permits a vertical positioning adjustment of ±3°.

Lamp support is provided by a porcelain-enclosed socket with nickle-platedlamp grip screw shell. 1000W standard lamp versions are provided with a stain-less steel lamp clamp.

Weather shield permits air passage for reflector self-cleaning. It also preventssnow, ice or wind driven rain from entering the lamp/optical chamber.

Sealed optical system consists of spun on aluminum cover with hightemperature silicone sealant at top and bottom. Hermetically seals reflectingprisms from all contaminants.

Refractor assembly consists of a prismatic borosilicate glass refractor andstainless steel clamping ring. Various refractor/reflector combinations providethe 35 different cut off, semi-cutoff and non-cutoff light distributions.

High Mast Systems Lowering DevicesHMST Series luminaires can bemounted on poles with fixed arms.Ideal for upgrading the illuminationlevels of existing pole systems.

The HMST Series can also be com-bined with the Holophane HighMast Lowering System (HMS).Installation, relamping, testing andmaintenance is done at groundlevel by lowering the luminaire ringassembly.

Numerous lowering device systemsare available. The LD15 systemutilizes a portable power winch cartassembly allowing use of less ex-pensive slim poles. The LD5 systemis most economical for installationsin remote inaccessible areas withsloping, rough terrain at the polebases. The LD25 system is totallyself-contained providing ultimateconvenience.

Complete details on the HMS low-ering device systems is available inbrochure HL-1250. Contact yourHolophane Sales Representative forcopies.

Select the appropriate curve in accordance with thetype of ambient as described by the followingexamples:

Clean— No nearby smoke or dust generating activities. Moder-ate to heavy traffic. The ambient particulate level is no more than300 micrograms per cubic meter.

Moderate— Moderate smoke or dust generating activitiesnearby. The ambient particulate level is no more than 600micrograms per cubic meter.

Dirty— Smoke or dust plumes generating by nearby activitiesmay occasionally envelope the luminaires.

Performance SpecificationSpecification

The luminaire shall be HolophaneCatalog No._____. Its effectiveprojected (EPA) area shall not exceed1.38 square feet. Fixture shall be ULlisted for wet locations, 40° Cambient temperatures, and be CSAcertified.

Housing: Shall be die castaluminum, finished with a sevenstage pretreatment and anelectrostatically applied and bakedpolyester powder paint. The brack-et arm clamp shall attach to a 51mm(2") nominal schedule 40 pipe andallow for ±3° adjustment for levelingthe luminaire. A stainless steel lampclamp lined with woven glass clothshall be attached to the reflectorhousing assembly for standard 1000watt HID lamps. The fixture shallpass a vibration fatigue testsimulating “1-g” peak acceleration.

Ballast: Shall be copper woundwith power factor over 90%. It shallhave a published ballast factor of 1to ensure full output of the lamp. The ballast shall be UL listed for40°C and provide 100% greater lifewhen operated in a 25°C ambient. All ballast components shall becompletely removable as a unitizedquick disconnect assembly for main-tenance. A terminal block shall beprovided to simplify wiring andprovide positive electricalconnections.

A protected starter, if specified, shall sense an inoperative ormissing HPS lamp and automatical-ly shut down to prevent runawayoperation, shortened life and dam-age to ballast windings.

Optical Assembly: The opticalassembly shall consist of an openventilated borosilicate glass reflectorand refractor. The reflecting prismsshall be protected from dirtdepreciation by a spun on and her-metically sealed aluminum cover. Theexposed smooth glass inner surfaceshall be continuously cleaned by thechimney effect of the flow throughair and subject to no permanentdeterioration. The lamp shall operatein the vertical position for maximumlife and lumen maintenance.

Asymmetric prismatic glass refractorsshall be rotatable to any position foraiming of the main beams.

Photometric/Performance — Theluminaire shall provide an ANSI/IEStype distribution. Maximum beamcandlepower shall be at __________vertical with a spacing ratio of__________ . Efficiency shall be_________% in the 0–90° zone.
