Welcome players, parents,
college scouts and fans to
Hockey Night in Boston’s
19th annual Girls Summer Showcase,
a top-flight tournament consisting of
players from over 20 different states
and Canada
Last summer’s tournament saw the
Minnesota repeat as Champions, edg-
ing a solid TeamOne entry, 3-1 in the
title game.
This year’s Showcase will certainly
boast some exciting up-and-down
action, as the Showcase will field 9
teams competing for the 2013 champi-
onship: Massachusetts Preps,
Massachusetts Public/Catholic, New
England, Northeast, Minnesota, Mid
Atlantic, Keystone Selects,
Shamrocks, and TeamONE,
Each team will play four first-round
games, before the playoff rounds begin
on Friday, August 9th. Each team will
get two playoff games determined by
their positioning in the standings after
the four first-round games. The top
four teams will enter in semifinals and
vie for the Girls Summer Showcase
title.
With the amazing growth womens hockey has seen, HNIB decided in 1995 to add
the Girls Summer Showcase to its summer activities. 2013 marks the 39th year of
HNIB’s nationally-known boys tournament, which will have finished playoffs and
All Star competition before the womens tournament got underway.
The Minnesota entry consists of a group of top high school age players in the
state. This summer, Lenny Vannelli will be behind the bench of what should be
another potent club.
The Massachusetts Preps idea was born three summers ago as a team was put
together consisting of players who either live or play prep hockey in Massachusetts.
The team won the crown each of its firsttwo years and reached the finals last sum-
mer. This year’s outfit will be guided by Jenelle Ries of nearby Brooks School.
The same formula held true for Frank Pagliuca, the coach of Massachusetts state
high school power St. Mary’s of Lynn, who has put together a solid club represent-
ing the Massachusetts Public and Catholic schools for the fifth straight summer.
Under the guidance of Bob Rotondo, his organization, the Boston Jr. Shamrocks,
has come up players from his multi-tiered organization to form the Shamrocks team,
to be coached this summer by new Shamrocks assistant coach Molly Corl.
On the weekend of June 7-9, a camp festival was held at the Valley Forum in
Haverhill, MA, where two teams were finalized. The coaching staff of Christina
Dotchin from Proctor Academy, Courtney Sheary from Cushing Academy,
Pagliuca, and Lawrence Academy’s Kevin Potter finalized the New England and
the Northeast entries.
Canterbury head coach Chris Huntington will coach the Mid Atlantic entry,
Sheary will man the New England bench, and Dotchin is back to guide the fortunes
of Team Northeast.
So, look forward to some exciting hockey over the next several days. Once again,
congratulations to all the participants.
This year’s Keystone Selects entry was put together by Craig Buntenbach and
the team promises to be exciting. It will be coached by Joanne Seifert of the
Quakers organization.
TeamOne, a finalist last year, will be in the mix. It is coached by Ray Jacques.
The team is comprised of some of the best young talent in the area, hoping to make
some noise against its older competition.
HNIB’s 19th Annual girls Summer Showcase
- On The Cover -
This year’s cover girls got to sample the many different flavors of soft-serve
frozen yogurt at Zinga!, located on Turnpike St. (Rte. 114) in North
Andover, MA. Enjoying the treats are (l to r) Bella Papapetros of the
Mass. Preps, Annie Messuri of the Shamrocks team, Brittani Lanzilli from the
Mass. Public/Catholic entry, goaltender Megan Messuri from the Keystone
Selects, and Jackie Guy, a TeamONE defenseman.

Talented Quintet Ready To
Show What They Can Do
Goalie Megan Messuri
Moves On To NorthwoodBy Kevin Doyle • HNIB
Two are cousins, one a diminutive goaltender with a big-time game, the other
a top-shelf defenseman.
One is a talented forward looking to help her prep team take the next step into
the post-season, another a high-profile sniper who led the state of Massachusetts
in scoring last winter. And the fifth is a defenseman who came halfway across the
US to play for one of the country’s premier women’s junior programs.
Each year the HNIB Girls Summer Showcase brings together some of the top
players in the women’s game. Here are five to watch this week:
Keystone Selects’ goaltender Megan Messuri anchored Arlington Catholic's
drive to its second Massachusetts Division I state title in 2012 as well as a return
trip to the 2013 title game but will transfer to The Northwood School in Lake
Placid, NY for her senior season.
"I am really excited about this transition and I cannot wait to play for the
Huskies. I am ready to accept this challenge," said Messuri, who posted a 1.42
goals against average to go along with a .947 save percentage and five shutouts in
her final season at AC.
"I am really excited about this transition and I cannotwait to play for the Huskies. I am ready to accept thischallenge,"
-Megan Messuri on her move to Northwood School
Despite standing only 5’1”, she has become a pre-eminent puck-stopper.
"This past season I think my game improved greatly mentally as well as physi-
cally,” she said. "I make a true effort to keep myself mentally stable before, dur-
ing and after a game, no matter what happened during the game."
She welcomes the challenge of showcase events such as these, which often dis-
pense with defense in favor of a constant attack.
"Because of the fact there is not a lot of defense being a played, it gives goalies
the chance to stop more shots and make those stand-on-your-head saves," said
Messuri, who may well have to turn aside shots from her cousin Annie Messuri,
a defenseman for the Shamrocks. "I hope to gain exposure and showcase my skills
as best I can."
Messuri's favorite player is five-foot, eight-inch Tampa Bay Lightning dynamo
Martin St. Louis.
"He advocates how no one should tell you are too small to play. He inspires me
because all the coaches at camps or seminars say a goalie needs the three 'S's',
which are size, speed and skill," said Messuri, who disproves the “size” element
of that mantra.(Continued On Page 21)
(Continued From Page 20)
Instead she is inspired by St. Louis's Nike commer-
cial in which he says "Before the game, some guys get
psyched up listening to music, while others get it from
the chanting of the crowd, some listen to the coaches
pep talk, and some listen to nothing at all. There's only
one sound that gets me fired up, the voice of every
person who said I was too small to make it."
Messuri has spent the summer playing in a league
and attending goalie camps and a variety of tourna-
ments. She is keeping her options open regarding col-
lege but hopes to make a commitment soon.
"I'll keep working hard and stopping pucks and
hopefully it will all pay off," she said.
HNIB veteran and Brooks School senior Isabella
Papapetros looks forward to the annual Girls
Summer Showcase for a number of reasons.
"I’ve been doing this showcase for many years and
personally, I think it is one of the most fun. The girls
work hard and there is plenty of good competition.
Being one of the older girls, I hope to see much young
talent at the showcase this year," said Papapetros, a
member of the Mass. Prep squad.
Papapetros hopes this tournament serves as a
springboard as Brooks shoots to kick the program up
a notch. Brooks finished 14-10-2 last season and
Papapetros expects more this winter
"For as long as I have been at Brooks, we haven’t
made it to the New England Tournament. My hopes
for this season are to make the tournament and hope-
fully succeed," said.
Always physical, Papapetros has enhanced her
game by improving her speed.
"In this past season, I have improved the pace of my
game. Being one of the bigger players, I was able to
muscle girls around, but wanted to take it to the next
level. With the help of my coaches, I was able to bring
the speed of my play to a much higher level," she
noted.
Soft hands allow her to handle the puck effectively
and she is diligent about improving her game off the
puck.
Papapaetros Looking Forward To Showcase
Mass. Preps Forward A Leader At Brooks
"It is a hard skill to master but once you are able to make a difference off
the puck, it truly changes the game and makes you a threat to the other
team," said Papapetros, who admires Patrice Bergeron. "He is determined
and works hard. He has fought through injuries despite his own pain for the
betterment of his team. He plays for the love of the game and of his team-
mates and I truly admire that."(Continued On Page 22)

Papapetros has left no stone unturned dur-
ing a summer devoted to preparation for the
prep school season, participating in several
tournaments while training at both All-Out
Summer Skate at The Edge and Mike Boyle’s
Strength and Conditioning.
She likes the personnel on the Mass Prep
team this week, saying "I think we have a
very strong team this year and have confi-
dence we can make it to the championship
(game) and even take home first place."
She has yet to make a college commitment
but hopes to do so this fall. She is looking at
both Division One and Division Three
schools, especially those in the Ivy League
and NESCAC.
Medford (MA) High School senior
Brittani Lanzilli gives Mass Public/Catholic
one of the premier snipers in this year’s tour-
nament. Lanzilli amassed 38 goals and 69
points to lead a young Medford club to an 11-
8-3 record last winter and is already amongst
the top all-time scorers in Mass. Girls HS
Hockey.
“We still will have a very young team.
However our team has been working very
hard during the off-season. All I can ask of
my teammates is that they strive to be the best
they can be every time they touch the ice, and
work to their fullest potential, as I will do in
return,” she said.
Lanzilli combines physical assets such as
speed, quick hands, and ice awareness with
intangibles such as determination and a com-
petitive nature to achieve success.(Continued On Page 24)

Improving her stick handling and strength have been areas of focus. To that end,
she is spending the summer working with a trainer several times a week to maximize
endurance and strength and attends Micro Ice to work on her stick handling and shot.
“It's important to be playing at my full potential. There is always room for improve-
ment in every aspect of my game. One area I feel I need to improve is my shot and
shot release,” said Lanzilli, an admirer of the Boston Bruins’ gritty Brad Marchand.
“He is smaller than most professional hockey players but his impact is huge and his
presence is always known.”
She anticipates a successful week for the Mass Public/Catholic club and will con-
tribute any way she can.
“We have many talented and hard-working players. I have played with and against
many of them so I have very high expectations for this tournament. I am confident
that we will be very successful,” she said. “I hope to bring my game to a higher level.

At least once this week, it is likely Shamrocks’
defenseman Anne-Marie Messuri will have her cousin
and Keystone Selects’ goalie Megan Messuri in her
sights.
“It will be a goal of mine in the game to put one or
more by her. But Megan cannot be underestimated; she
is an extremely good goalie and has led her team to the
Garden two years running. It will be a struggle for us out
there and for our Nana and Papa sitting in the stands,”
Anne-Marie said.
Messuri enjoyed a superb junior season, scoring 13
goals and 30 points as Acton-Boxboro finished 15-7-2.

she said.
A full arsenal of shots – slap, snap

Messuri’s on-ice strengths. Learning
to trust her instincts has improved her
decision-making. The summer has
been spent playing in a league and
doing off ice training and skills with
her father. Attending Jazzercise class-

her stamina and quickness.
“A great someone once told me

The Keystone Selects hope to continue their improve-
ment this summer, their third season in the HNIB
Summer Showcase.
Returning to coach the squad again this August is Joanne
Seifert, part of the coaching fraternity with Pennsylvania’s
Quakers program.
The forward lines for the Keystone Selects include one
returner from last year’s club. Junior Jessi Kuhlman, a
Maryland native who plays with the Quakers organizatio, will
lend her experience and guidance to the club.
A pair of other Quakers forwards who hope to get their name
on the scoresheet are junior Dara Clowser, from Harleysville,
PA, and junior Katie Stueve, from Chester Springs, PA.
Junior Nicole Nolfi, from Philadelphia, is also an offensive
piece for the Quakers U-16 club, as is sophomore Michaela
Caldwell, from Valley Forge.
Will Squad Continue To Improve?
Page 29
- Keystone selects -
Joining the club up front from the
local area are junior Meghan Hanlon
from Austin Prep, who played for
Keystone last summer, and senior Tori
Carson, from Winchester HS.
Also from the program at Winchester
are senior Liz McCarthy and senior
Alaina Ewing, ready to help out in any
way they can.
The Quakers also have a big influcnce
on the Keystone blue line.
Leading the way is senior Natalie
Seifert, a returning All Star from last
summer’s Showcase. Junior Mollie
Johnson, from Phoenixville, PA, is also
back and that year of experience will be
a plus.
Look for the sophomore Quakers tan-
dem of Lauren Vanstone (Havertown,
PA) and Courtney Ricci (Lancaster,
PA) to make a splash on the blue line.
Senior Grace Charnigo comes to the
club from her Frederick Jr. Freeze pro-
gram and is a native of Spring Grove,
PA. Junior Maura White plays during
the winter in upstate New York at the
National Sports Academy.
Goaltending should be a strongpoint
with both keepers back from last season.
Senior Megan Messuri, from nearby
Winchester, is headed for Northwood
School after a starry three seasons at
Arlington Catholic that included two
state final appearances (one title). Junior
Devon Strachan keeps pucks out of the
net for the Quakers.

Younger overall than in the past, Massachusetts Preps
still should have enough talent to be right in the run-
ning for a championship game berth.
Looking to make that happen will be Jenelle Ries, the
Brooks mentor back for her third summer behind the Mass.
Preps bench.
Expect a lot of the offense to go through senior forward
Bella Papapetros, the Brooks stalwart. She was a Top
Forward Award winner last summer at HNIB. Her Brooks
teammate - junior Danielle Doherty - will be a big help as well
offensively.
Governor’s Academy senior Michelle Alonardo has good
offensive instincts and is a returning player for Mass. Preps.
Joining her on the club this summer is Govs teammate Elena
Driscoll, a junior from Marblehead.
St. George’s School sends two forwards to watch in sopho-
more Erika Martin, and new sophomore Victoria O’Heir.
Preps Will Be Younger This Summer
Page 31
- Massachusetts PrePs -
Senior Rachel Scholz-Bright is the go-to player at Winsor
School. Middlesex senior Arushi Ray will be a solid contrib-
utor. Look for Cushing’s Erin Joyce to be an impact player up
front.
The improving Vermont Academy program sends a pair of
forwards in junior Teneal Perry, and junior Alana Lopez.
Sophomore Kelsey Ryan piled up 39 points for Burlington
last winter and now will try the prep school route at Cushing
Academy this coming winter. A freshman to watch up front
will be Mairi Anthony from Stoneham, who heads for
Brooks.
Defensively, a lot will be expected of Williston sophomore
Rachel Rockwell, a National Camp participant. She will be
an anchor, along with Governor’s Academy junior Hannah
Quin.
Junior Mary Grace Kelley will be solid as she plays her
prep hockey at D-2 power Southfield School. Sophomore
Miranda Nestor and her steadying influence come from
Phillips Andover Academy.
Mass. Preps will have two freshmen on the blue line in
Gabi Hillner, headed for Brooks, and Mia DelRosso, on her
way to St. George’s.
In goal, post-grad Jessica Thulin, a returning Mass. Preps
player, should have another strong tournament. She will be
joined by Julia Mini of Danvers, who plays at Berwick
Academy.

With a nice cross-section of some of the premier
Massachusetts high school players from some of the
top programs, the Mass. Public/Catholic entry
should be right in the running.
Coaching the squad again this winter will be Frank
Pagliuca, whose St. Mary’s of Lynn club won another MIAA
Division I title this past March.
Up front, three-time Division II state champion Duxbury
will send two of its key contributors in the title run in juniors
Jane Dudley (33 pts) and Marissa Fichter (31 pts).
Perennial power Woburn HS also is represented by its top
two returning scorers in the senior combo of Ashley Moran
(56 pts) and Emily Lissner (46 pts), who should be two of the
top scorers in Mass. Girls HS hockey this coming season.
Juniors Adriana Rossini and Jessica Piracini, both League
All Stars, will lead the offensive attack again at Arlington
Catholic, a Division I state finalist this past year.

Senior Megan Barrett is an offensive leader for a strong
Acton-Boxboro program. Senior Brittani Lanzilli, a
Medford HS sniper, is already one of the top all-time scorers
in Mass. HS girls hockey.
Watertown’s Emily Loprete (52 pts) is a returning
Middlesex League All Star and has put up big numbers two
seasons in a row for the Raiders. Junior Samantha Girard is
a returning Mass. Public/Catholic players who skates at
Dedham HS.
Junior Amanda Conway (52 goals) helped lead her first
year Tewks-bury/Methuen team to the state semifinals and
led the state in goals. Maggie Flaherty is bringing her talents
to St. Mary’s for the upcoming year.
The Mass. Public/Catholic defense will have a definite St.
Mary’s flair. The veteran senior combination of Tatiana
Doucette and Amanda Donahoe will keep opposing for-
wards honest. Young sophomore Vanessa Van Buskirk is an
up-and-comer amongst the blue line ranks.
Duxbury’s Ally Hammel excelled for the Green Dragons
all season long, as did Alex Loblundo on the blue line for
Acton-Boxboro. Caitlin McBride put together a solid season
for Beverly, which had its best season ever.
Goaltending will be strong with veteran Woburn senior
Courtney Davis, a four-year varsity starter, and St. Mary’s
senior Lauren Skinnion.

With a roster made up of players from six different
states, Team Mid-Atlantic will have a wide variety
of talent as it tries to make some noise this August.
Back for a second summer to coach this unit will be Chris
Huntington, the head coach at Canterbury School in
Connecticut.
Coach Huntington will be quite familiar with a trio of senior
forwards on this club as all are from his Canterbury program.
Erin McCarthy is a returning Mid-Atlantic forward that
will get involved offensively. Ashley Dineen, who hails from
Arnwalle, NY, and Emma Hannan, from Kent, CT., are both
ready to get the job done up front.
Another HNIB veteran to keep a close watch on is Shannon
McIsaac, a leader at Fontbonne Academy (MA). Medfield HS
junior Lindsay Brown got some tournament experience last
summer at HNIB as well.

Senior Alexandra Breen, who plays with the Northern
Cyclones program in NH, will make her presence known.
Junior Michaela McNamara has been a huge part of two
consecutive Rhode Island state championships for her
LaSalle Academy squad.
A pair of sophomores from the Mass. HS ranks ready to
show their talents are Jordan Monbouquette from Newton
North, and Melissa Zavez from Winchester HS. Dennis-
Yarmouth’s Kathleen Donohue will chip in as well.
Senior Johanna Slicklen is enjoying a solid prep career at
New Hampton School. Just a freshman, Meghan Galanos
shows a lot of promise with the Shamrocks organization.
Defensively, Canterbury senior Erica Guider and
Swedesboro, NJ native Stephanie Heresniak, bound for a
PG-year at Millbrook, will be anchors.
Another New Jersey native on the club is junior Noelle
Rosa, who is involved with the well-known NJ Rockets pro-
gram. Post-grad Georgia Kleiner will bring her wealth of
experience to Canterbury School this fall.
Junior Lillian McNeil keeps things steady in the defensive
zone at Worcester Academy, while sophomore Caroline
Chase is an up-and-coming blueliner at Austin Prep.
A youngster to watch is freshman Lexi Nottke, who heads
to Kimball Union. Julianna Kennedy moves on to the prep
ranks at BB&N after a solid campaign for the Winthrop/Lynn
program.
The goaltending chores will fall on junior Caroline Kent
from Division I prep heavy St. Paul’s, sophomore Zoe
Shannon from NY’s Albany Academy, and sophomore
Michaela Kane from the Minuteman Flames program.

The two-time defending champs have pretty much a new
crew this summer, but still expect them to make a strong
run for another HNIB Showcase crown.
Back behind the bench is Lenny Vannelli, who heads up the
successful Minnesota CADP program.
The Minnesota forwards come from a wide cross-section of
the state. Senior Alexis Joyce from Lakeville North HS will be
a force; she was all-state Honorable Mention this past season
and returns to HNIB. Also all-state honorable mention was
junior Rebekah Kolstad from Mankato East HS. She has past
HNIB experience as well.
Senior Diana Draayer is a solid, two-way forward and a
member of the two-time Minnesota Class AA state champion
team from Minnetonka HS. Another senior ready to contribute
is Apple Valley HS' Erica Power, a three-time all-conference
player.
Washburn High sends one its top guns in junior Sadie
Baker. Senior Alexia Klaas comes to HNIB from the
Northern Stars program up in Duluth. Just a freshman, Ali
Schreiber will look to get noticed.
Breck HS is well-represented by what will be two of its top
players this winter in junior Leah Schwartzman and freshman
Grace Zumwinkle. Also on the front lines is Isabelle
Wagner, a sophomore from the Dodge County Wildcats.
Defending Champs Have Many New Faces
Page 37

On the blue line, junior Megan Sweet, also from Breck,
brings back her championship experience from last summer's
HNIB champion squad. Fellow junior Briana Johnson was a
key component on defense for her Champlin Park HS squad and
also returns from last summer’s Minnesota HNIB contingent.
A pair of seniors on the blue line, both play at Holy Family
and both come from Waconia. Jamie Kichler has been elected
captain-to-be for the high school team. Shania Gonzales has
earned all-conference honorable mention each varsity cam-
paign.
Sophomore Anna Zumwinkle from Breck has the size
(5'11") that goalies love in front of the net. A youngster from
Edina to keep an eye on is Grace Vojta, headed for Blake
School in the fall.
In the nets, junior Abby Cooper comes from the successful
Lakeville North program and is highly-regarded. Also in the
rotation is Katie Paulson, a junior-to-be at Mankato East HS.

Hoping to show more offensively this summer than it
did last August, Team New England will put the pedal
to the medal.
The team will have a new mentor this summer, as Cushing
Academy’s Courtney Sheary has moved behind the bench.
Key returning forwards for New England will be senior
Chelsea Ellis, from Vermont Division I state champ BFA-St.
Albans, and senior Colleen Downing of Dedham (MA) HS.
Junior Meghan Miller, also a returner, had another huge
scoring season for her Barrington (RI) HS squad, while junior
Samantha Ryder heads to Tilton School after skating with the
well-respected Hingham HS program.
Another HNIB returner, Elisabeth Berard, also moves on to
the prep ranks, moving on to Pomfret after a banner year at
RI’s Mt. St. Charles Academy.
Senior Emily Kelly is coming off an impressive 44-point
campaign with Norwood HS and will be a force, as will
Marblehead High’s Brittany Smith, who racked up 40 points.
Team Looks To Step Up Offense
Page 39

Junior Meghan Lawler is vital to the
offensive success at Ursuline Academy.
Look for Jacqueline Sindoris to have
an even bigger offensive role at
Arlington Catholic this winter.
Senior Kennedy Harper led her
Shawsheen Tech team in scoring last
season. A youngster to watch is fresh-
man Elizabeth Gross, who hails from
Scarborough, ME.
On the blue line, senior Maryanna
DiRupo from Austin Prep (MA) and
junior Nikolle Storey from Maine’s
Kents Hill School are returning HNIB
players that will bring experience to the
fold.
Two Mass. HS players that are repeat-
ing their sophomore seasons at prep
schools are Westwood’s Katie Horsfall,
bound for Kent School, and
Wayland/Weston’s Katherine Goguen,
bringing her defensive talents to
Deerfield.
Senior Katie Jeter will be a member
of the new Middlesex Islanders team for
the upcoming season. Sophomore
Abigail Bogovitch is a solid blue liner
from Framingham HS.
Nearby Andover HS sends two of its
top rearguards in junior Joanna Olson,
an all MVC/Dual County Large selec-
tion, and sophomore Jillian Hughes.
The Team New England goaltending
will be handled by senior Taylor
Lirakis from the Tewksbury-Methuen
program, junior Alexandra Barnes
from North Yarmouth Academy in
Maine, and sophomore Julia Pelletier,
a Pelham, NH native moving on to
Worcester Academy.

Armed with some returning Showcase players along
with some talented newcomers, Team Northeast is
hoping to make its mark this August.
This summer, once again, the team will be coached by
Christina Dotchin, the head coach at Division II prep power
Proctor Academy.
Up front, junior Katia Klinoff, who plays at the Southfield
School, brings her scoring talents from the New England entry.
Senior Lexie Stefekos, a Hebron Academy product, also par-
ticipated with New England last summer and is another threat.
Junior Natasia Burzynski is a catalyst for the offense at
Berwick Academy. Heading off to the prep ranks this fall will
be LuLu Swartz, a product of Westwood HS.
Oneof the top high school players in New Hampshire is
ready to show what she can do in junior Sarah Wagner of
four-time New England champion Hanover HS. LaSalle’s (RI)
Cailin Catarina looks to get on the scoresheet.

Junior Mary Latona hails from near-
by Andover and will play with the
Islanders womens program this season.
Also from Andover is Veronica Alois, a
key component of the offense at
Andover HS.
From the Massachusetts Catholic
school ranks comes senior Michaela
McLaughlin of D-1 power Arlington
Catholic, and Fontbonne Academy
standout Katie Nolan. Both will be
around the net.
Expect big things from senior Alexa
Scribner, who has helped lead
Falmouth to two straight state final
appearances, and junior Julianne
Sheehan, who sees time for both
Chelmsford HS and the East Coast
Wizards.
The defense will feature a mixture of
veterans and promising younger play-
ers.
Seniors on the roster include
Caroline Howell, the anchor of the
Hanover (NH) blueline, and Jillian
Witwicki of Pingree School, both
returning HNIB players.
A third senior is Catherine Salvetti,
from the successful Winthrop/Lynn
program. Keep an eye on junior Kelly
Potter, a seasoned player from
Lawrence Academy.
Sophomore Delaney Guimont heads
to the Boston Shamrocks program this
season, while junior Emily Coughlin is
a two-time state champ from RI’s
LaSalle Academy.
Junior Kendall Carr is a premier
blue liner from Maine’s York HS.
Sophomore Amanda Fantasia was a
huge part of a solid season for Billerica
(MA) HS.
In goal, senior Emily Spencer is
back for a second HNIB summer and is
coming off a good year at Milton
Academy. Joining her in the trio will be
Hebron senior Michaela Clark, a
Boston native, and junior Jillian
Moffat, a product of the Northern
Cyclones organization.

Solid Outfit Ready To Make A RunBy Gary Demopoulos • HNIB
The well-known Boston Shamrocks womens hockey
organization has again put together a highly-competitive
squad that will be banking on finishing in the top four
and be able to play for the HNIB championship.
Coaching the team this year will be Molly Corl of the
Shamrocks, a former HNIB player herself.
Senior Amanda McGoldrick, a key at Natick HS, will be
involved heavily in the offense for the Shamrocks, as will sen-
ior Lindsay MacDonald, who is coming off an all-league sea-
son for Westford Academy last season.
A duo of other seniors are ready to put the puck in the net.
Marissa Williams played at Medford HS and is also with the
Shamrocks organization. Courtney Smith of Peabody wants to
get her name on the score sheet.
Senior Rachel McKay, a top scorer at Marblehead HS last
season, joins the Islanders program for the upcoming season.
Sophomore Meggan Rodriguez skates with the Shamrocks as

well, and is a key offensive player at Andover HS.
The Austin Prep program is well-represented at forward as
well. Sophomore Kathleen McHugh was solid last summer as
a member of the Mass. Public/Catholic club. Junior Maddy
Ricci is solid in both ends of the ice.
Keep an eye on freshman Michaela Boyle, capable of put-
ting up some huge numbers. Chelmsford senior sniper Rachel
Bossi will be involved in the offensive scheme.
Junior Erica Lissner looks for an increased scoring role this
winter at Mass. D-1 power Woburn. Junior Nora Maclaine
piled up points for Mansfield/Oliver Ames last winter and also
looks forward to being part of the Shamrocks organization.
Defensively, senior Annie Messuri will be a rock. She was
named Player of the Year for Acton-Boxboro in the MVC/Dual
County League this past winter.
Junior Kelly Wendt was the backbone of the defense at
Algonquin Regional. Sophomore Jacquelyn Leone was a key
blueliner at Andover HS.
Senior Meredith Gallagher is busy in the winter between
patrolling the blue line for Assabet Valley and Arlington HS.
Sophomore Madison Truax is a solid prospect from the
Shamrocks via Gardner, MA. Young freshman Meaghan
O'Brien will bring her talents to BB&N for the upcoming cam-
paign.
Both goalies return for the Shamrocks and most certainly
will be a team strongpoint with the likes of senior Maggie
Salmon from Governor's Academy and junior Kassi Abbott,
looking forward to a successful upcoming season with the
Shamrocks junior club.

“I was asked by the Team ONE coach to play on his summer
tournament team a couple of summers ago. He liked the way I
played and told the Shamrocks about me. The Shamrocks
watched me (at a tournament) last year, invited my family and
me for a tour, and asked if I wanted to join the team. It was a
tough decision leaving home but I knew it would help me
become a better player,” Guy said.
Daily practice and games honed Guy’s stick handling and
decision-making skills, added to her confidence and brought
out her leadership qualities. She is looking for a successful
week by TeamONE.
“I believe we have a very strong team but I also know there
is very good competition in this tournament,” she said. “I hope
to be contacted by some D1 colleges so I can go on some col-
lege visits and make a decision as to which school I will attend
next year.”
Maintaining her defensive responsibilities in offense-first
tournaments such as the Girls Showcase is not a problem.
“My main responsibility is playing defense. I just play my
game as I always do,” said Guy. Her all-time favorite player is
former St. Louis Blues’ defenseman Al MacInnis, who she has
met multiple times and who remains involved with youth hock-
ey in St. Louis.
Guy is working on improving her slap shot and is also skat-
ing several times a week and training at the gym throughout the
summer.

This young TeamOne squad reached the championship
game last summer, and although it is missing some of
the ingredients that brought the club there last year, this
will still be a solid club capable of challenging again.
The team is put together and coached by Ray Jacques. This
is the team’s third season at the HNIB Summer Showcase.
A key offensive component to TeamONE’s success will be
junior Jessie Jacques. The local product from North Reading,
MA had a solid national camp and plays her winter hockey
with the Shamrocks in the Womens Junior Hockey League.
Also back from last summer is sophomore Lily Castro, part of
the resurgence at St. Paul’s School. Post-grad Sarah Robello,
back with the Shamrocks for another season, is an impressive
two-way player who could see time on the blue line as well.
Two other forwards to keep an eye on are Ellen Chiligiris,
an Illinois native who plays with the well-known Chicago
Mission program, and junior Maddy Jerolman, a key scorer
with the Williston Northampton School, a New England girls
prep D-1 heavy.
Senior Nicole Arnold comes highly-regarded from the
St.Louis Lady Blues program and will have to be watched at
all times. Sophomore Nicole Saber from nearby Lawrence
Academy is equally adept at both forward and defense. Junior
Leah Heinze is a top scorer at Pingree School.
The defensive anchor for TeamONE will be senior Jackie
Guy. A native of St. Louis, Guy plays in the winter locally here
with the Shamrocks organization. Baye Flanagan, a solid
rearguard, who played at the National Sports Academy this
past season, is another returning TeamONE blue liner.
Junior Kim Tiberi, a product of the Ohio Flames program,
heads off to Gilmour Academy for the upcoming campaign.
Up-and-coming sophomore Sara Lopez-Wheeler patrols the
blue line for BB&N in the girls Independent School League .
Back between the pipes for TeamONE will be Kerri St.
Denis, coming off an impressive season at St. Paul’s, and Rose
Pijaca from Worcester Academy, both juniors-to-be.
The remainder of the TeamONE roster was being finalized
after this magazine went to press.
