Kian Blows the sensational

team of the Brackenfell High
School, represented the
Western Cape and
participated in the South
African Schools Winter games

Kian excelled and received a
gold medal for his excellent
performance in this national tournament.
The next tournament was held from 14 to 23 July
2017. In these open matches he participated in the B-
section of the South African Chess Championships in
which over 500 players participated. Kian finished
second in the under 16 age group and first in the under
1400 ratings category. He was awarded a silver medal
for his remarkable performance. Kian always strives for
excellence and he is a dedicated, reliable chess
player. He does us proud.
Our girl’s Chess Team performed equally well. The team
won the district playoffs and went through to participate
against the top schools play-offs on 29 July 2017.
Our girls beat Stellenberg High School and won the top
schools in the Western Province. This is an astounding
victory: it is a first for our school. Our chess girls’ team
will represent the Western Province in the Worcester

The future for chess in Brackenfell High School is bright
since we have dedicated young and enthusiastic bright
chess players.

in Worcester deelgeneem.
