some graphitic material in the blacksections. The black sections carry a fairamount of pyrrhotite with traces of pyriteand chalcopyrite. The pyrrhotite is rela tively strongly magnetic. Banding isroughly 80-900 to the core.

After the cherty band we return to themedium to dark green andesite. There is arelative increase in the amount of finefractures with calcite here along the hole.Aside from the local coarser grained sec tions with hornblende, there is also somelocal development of blotches, of creamy towhite feldspar.

214.2-215.2; 216.4-216.7 - two narrowsections of more cherty material. Inaddition to these narrow cherty horizons.there are also a few bluish grey to greystringers of quartz along the core withappreciable splashes of pyrrhotite, pyriteand sometimes chalcopyrite. Most of thesequartz stringers are at a very shallowangle to the core axis.

The lower contact with the porphyry is

sharp but broken at 80 .

Contact to a dyke(?) of feldspar por phyry. The upper contact here is notably-onformable at 80O to the core.

The dyke is quite variable in colourfrom buff to light olive and reddish purple. The porphyry is medium to coarse grainedwith numerous whitish phenocrysts of feldsparand erratic bluish grey ovoid to lenticularphenocrysts of quartz. Certain of thefeldspar phenocrysts are stained brightorangy pink (potassic?) , particularly after375.

The dyke is also somewhat mottled inappearance possibly from the weak carboni zation of the rock.

Along the dyke, there are a few in clusions of andesite as: 289.7-290.2 contacnearly normal; 326.1-327.3 contacts @ 75O ;and 400.9-401.8 upper contact with a vuggystringer @ 65O , lower contact normal to thecore. One of these sections (400.9-401.8)is fairly well mineralized with disseminatedpyrite.

The andesite at the end of the hole isfairly uniform in appearance, chloritic, with a dark blackish green fresh surface.Aside from the sulphide-bearing stringersthe core is also cut by fine calcite strgrsat 30-500 to the core. Weakly anphibolitized.

We collar in a zone of medium to coarsegrained pyroxenite-peridotite that is darkgrey to black in colour. Megascopically, numerous ovoid to subrectangular grains ofpyroxene (?) are seen, plus small lenticularblebs of magnetite and traces of feldspar. Some of the pyroxene grains may in fact beolivine although no crystals were definitelyidentified. There is also a fair amount ofcarbonate in this unit, presumably of themagnesian variety, giving rise to thegreyer coloured portions along the core. This unit is also characterized by numeroussmall fractures and slips at a shallowangle to the core (10-300) , bearing calciteand/or jade coloured serpentine. A steeperseries of fractures and slips (@ 45-700 ) ismore erratically distributed along the .

Andesite - which may be subdivided

into a few individual units across this

distance.Up to 44.7, the andesite is dark green

medium to coarse grained and relatively

uniform in appearance. In places, this

section is at least marginal to the 'B'type, coarse flow units in the area.

Although the rock is fairly coarsegrained, the only minerals recognized mega-

scopically are feldspar, chlorite and

hornblende .All along this unit, there are

scattered fine, to hairline fractures of

quartz-carbonate, most of which show a

slight amount of bleaching adjacent to

stringer margins. One wider stringer, at

43.9, carries some coarsely disseminated

pyrite, and has a wider zone (l n ) of

bleaching, adjacent to the stringer margins.

These fine quartz -carbonate stringers are

at variable angles to the core, but most

are fairly shallow (from 30O to 40O ) .

Although there is a marked increase instringer content here, the erratic zones ofbleaching do not appear to be related to anexcess of stringers. coarse blebs and irregular stringers ofpyrrhotite.

208.3-210.2 - Broken contact @ 68O todark grey green cherty tuff with lighterghost fragments to 1/8" size. Only minimalpyrrhotite seen in coarse blebs. Lowercontact very irregular.

210.2-236.6 - Whole zone of dark greyto black carbonaceous (some graphite?) tuffwith only minor cherty material near thebase. The tuff is well mineralized withcoarse blebs and irregular stringers ofpyrrhotite ± pyrite. Traces of chalcopyritewere noted in a few stringers, and occasion ally along slip faces. The core is moderateto strongly magnetic.

229-235 - Blocky.236.6-257.1 - Sharp contact at 80O to

a whole zone of chert to cherty tuff, whichin places is thoroughly fractured andbroken. This zone varies in colour frompale greenish to cream coloured, grey andbrownish grey. Fine pyrrhotite, with onlyisolated coarser blebs or stringers is

Broken contact to meta-andesite.The andesite here is medium to dark

green and grey green in colour and fairlywell silicified. No individual bands ofchert are noted within this unit, butcertain sections of andesite, particularly

The andesite is medium to coarsegrained and rather granular to sugarytextured. After 260, metacrysts of feldspa:hornblende and chlorite (after hornblende?)are noted along some fresh surfaces. Themosaic pattern of many surfaces (quartz andfeldspar?) plus the presence of a felted

271.7-273 - Broken contacts to a narro'unit of milky white feldspar with medium todark green chlorite - anorthosite. The coreis quite badly broken here with fine, openchlorite-serpentine slips.

The lower contact of this whole unitof andesite is broken.

Up to 281.7, the rock is medium tofine grained and dark brownish to blackishgreen in colour. This section is com pletely nonmagnetic, and from succeedingmembers, a gabbroic composition is suggested.

Following the contact zone, the rock

This zone, from 281.7 to 298, isgabbroic in composition with pyroxene,tremolite-actinolite and traces of horn blende megascopically visible. Rare tracesof an olive coloured mineral - (olivine) ,are also noted within this zone.

The first part of this coarser grainedgabbro, to 285, is quite brownish in colourfrom the presence of a bronzy brown mineral- bronzite (?). Some scattered white flecksof feldspar are also noted here. After285, however, the gabbro grades grey greenin colour and feldspar is not distinguishedmegascopically, nor is the bronzy mineralas dominant.

At 298.5, a magnetic contact isindicated - the rocks after this pointbecoming progressively more magnetictowards a contact with pyroxenite at 315.Further, the rocks after 298 grade pro gressively darker in colour - transitionalfrom gabbro to pyroxenite. Pyroxene is the
