Looking for a turkey for your Thanksgiving table? Here are your options at the co-op: Organic Frozen Turkeys: Organic Prairie turkeys are

available at $3.99/lb. They will range from 10-16 lbs each. First delivery is Saturday, 11/8. Pick up early for the best selection. Plainville Free Range Turkeys 12-20 pounds for $3.99/lb. Pick up early for the best selection.

Gunthorp Farms: Unfortunately, the deadline for these local, free-range turkeys was earlier than usual (10/31). If you pre-ordered a turkey pick up is Tuesday afternoon (11/21) & Wednesday (11/22).

Vegetarian/Vegan Options: Tofurky returns in Roast, Feast and gravy; Field Roast Celebration Roast, and the Quorn roast.

A celebratory dinner should be exactly that: a time to share delicious food with family and friends. While many people wish to serve traditional family favorites, for most, there's still plenty of room to liven up your holidays with a few new flavors, local foods, and even nutritional boosters. Here are some ideas for making your holiday meals fresh, easy, and fun.

Consider a slightly new twist on the centerpiece of many a holiday meal, the turkey, by choosing a local, heritage breed, and/or brined turkey. See our turkey (or veg substitutes) to the right. Need turkey tips? Check out this guide: https://goo.gl/E47eZW.

Give that classic green bean casserole a makeover with fresh green beans, a spritz of lemon, and a topping of toasted pine nuts. Boost the cranberry sauce with a handful of fresh or dried fruit and a dash of cayenne. Use brown rice or quinoa as the basis for your turkey-day stuffing this year, and toss in some walnuts and chopped local apples.

Instantly transform the typical fare with seasonings: spice your eggnog with cardamom instead of (or as well as) cinnamon this year, and sprinkle tarragon on plain mashed potatoes.

Make gravy like Grandma (or your favorite cooking show chef) if you like, but don't feel obligated! There are some top-notch, healthful cooking mixes available that are especially helpful this time of year. You'll find delicious, organic gravy mixes, dessert mixes, and seasoning blends for salad dressings and dips at your co-op.

Cycle B Sales: November 15-28

Special orders due November 25

In early November you may want to turn the oven on to help you adjust to cooler temperatures! Bring in the chill with some warmed baked goods--sales from the first round of Deals are plenty. You’ll find savings in bulk (oats, coconut, sugar) and on the shelves (coconut, vanilla extract, coconut oil, pumpkin pie spice, brown sugar, coconut milk). If you’re making sweet treats for the visitors you are hosting you’ll want to stock up on cleaning products and paper goods (dish soap, paper towels, toilet paper). When Sales Cycle B rolls around you’ll likely be in full Thanksgiving mode. Here are some sale items you may want for your table: Cascadian Farms frozen veggies, Arrowhead Mills stuffing mix, Pacific broths, Farmer’s Market Organic Pumpkin, Ian’s (GF) breadcrumbs, Organic Valley cream cheese, butter, eggs, and half-and-half, plus Westbrae canned veggies. We’re hoping none of your shopping partners are unable to accompany you due to illness but if they are you will want to grab some of our Wellness items on sale the second round of deals: Boiron Coldcalm, Ricola Cough Drops and Traditional Medicinals teas may help! Get your case orders in and use that “Happy Harvest Savings” voucher! Once you are above the $50 mark you’ll save 15% or 20% off your total purchase. You may even want to order in a flavor or product we don’t normally stock on the shelves! You may use your coupon thru November 30th. We’re continuing to receive non-food items that would make great gifts.

Mine. Yours. Ours: Owner News You Can Use

Harvest the Savings at Your Co-op! Watch your mailboxes for this “Happy Harvest Savings” postcard that may be used anytime before November 30th. We assume you’ll want to bring your Thanksgiving shopping list along for this owner savings voucher which allows you to save up to 20% depending on the amount you spend. As usual, this savings voucher may not be combined with any other discount including the volunteer 10% and senior 5%. It can be used on case orders and spending over $50 will get you above the 10% owners normally save by special ordering cases. Many thanks from us for your loyalty as owners! Go Co-op!

(Holiday Meal Makeover, continued from page 1)

Planning for Your Holiday Meal How much food will you need? The general guidelines below will help you plan the correct amount of food to make or purchase for your main meal. To get you started set out a tray or two of snacks--it’s a great way to welcome guests. Fresh dates served with a spiced, roasted nut mix; artisanal cheese tray of local cheeses, with fine flatbread crackers and crostini; and crispy raw vegetables and a selection of dips, like soft a soft cheese blended with herbs, hummus with a swirl of fresh or prepared pesto, or garlicky aioli make a nice addition to your starter menu.

Fermentation is wild! You’ll likely find the Wildbrine Probiotic Smoky Jalapeno Sriracha without match in the condiment world. The spicy & smoky, yet fresh green combo of jalapeños, cherrywood smoked salt, kale, and vibrant green tomatillos really drives this sriracha home. Not to mention it’s live, raw, vegan and has no sugar added. Delicious, spicy, fermented, and good for you? Did we say double fermented? Find it in the cooler at the front of the store.

Evolution Salt Lamps are back at a sale price! You’ll find them on sale all month in new shapes including an elephant (these sold out last year). Also new--a color changing version that plugs into your USB port! One of our staff members has it in her car. Salt lamps make great gifts--grab them at the sale price as they won’t last long!

Featuring the documentary Apple Pushers

Friday, November 17, 7 pm

The Apple Pushers, narrated by Edward Norton, follows the inspiring stories of five immigrant pushcart vendors who are

rolling fresh fruits and vegetables into New York City's food deserts - neighborhoods where finding a ripe, red apple is a

serious challenge and where obesity rates are skyrocketing. These micro-entrepreneurs, who hail from Ecuador, Russia, Mexico,

and Bangladesh, are at the heart of a unique urban strategy, the Green Cart Initiative, which seeks to increase the availability of

fresh produce in under-served communities, in an effort to combat the obesity epidemic found in so many of America's cities.

Hot bar, salad bar, and café selections will be available for purchase.

Discussion will follow.
