Twas….only a few days to go, a century complete

A special occasion for a remarkable feat

Great Grandmother Rita turning 100 years old

The party to celebrate would have to be bold

It was a Who’s Who guest list, so they’d better check twice

Invite none of the Naughty, only the Nice

With one special invitation to make the list whole

A dear old friend coming from the North Pole

Great Grandma and Santa had met long ago

She, a child in Baltimore, was out in the snow

Overhead, a reindeer led sleigh canvassed the night

Landing on her rooftop to the little girl’s delight

They chatted that night and have been friends since then

Santa was coming to town, but who knew when

The old man finally arrived, Great Grandma greeting with a hug

Santa’s cheeks turned red, he smirked and gave a wry shrug

All guests were in State College, the party two days away

The reindeer went to the Club parking the sleigh

Colby was eager for their matches to resume

Surely Santa brought his clubs he had to assume

Colby peered in the sleigh, looking all around

A HA! There they were, Santa’s clubs on the ground

Santa let out a chuckle, “Hello my dear boy!”

“Looking for my clubs? Or rather a toy?”

Santa reached for the sleigh releasing a latch

His clubs glistened, they were ready for a match

Colby was ready as well, but he had a surprise in store

The match was not just for the two, no this was a match for four

This was a match for the ages, one of multiple generations

Each team’s players with nearly a hundred years separation

Santa paired with Colby, Great Grandma with her little namesake

The boys versus the girls… with everything at stake

The Who’s Who guest list all came to the course to spectate

They lined the first fairway, twas a match to celebrate

The Rita’s had the honor in the alternate shot format

Great Grandma drove the ball down the middle, on the short grass it sat

The boys now on the tee, Santa was up, please play away

Rusty from the trip, his tee shot far from the fairway did stray

Colby left without a clean shot, a pine tree to play around

The rest of the hole wasn’t much better, after 1 the boys were 1 down

Little Rita borrowed her Great Grandma’s putter and poured in clutch putts

For it was the girls that were the team showing the heart and the guts

Santa and Colby were down four heading to the back nine

The match was far from over, but their reputations were on the line

Colby and Santa clawed their way back, cutting into the lead

But Pars weren’t going to help them, it was birdies they would need

The Rita’s were dormie, one up on the Par 3 18th tee

Santa’s tee shot just ten feet away, when Great Grandma stuck hers inside three

Colby’s putt was dead center from the start, the lip it didn’t catch

Not feeling any pressure little Rita tapped in her birdie, closing out the match

Cheers filled the course as both Ritas were hoisted high above

Great Grandma gave little Rita a hug filled with nothing but love

But the mood quickly changed when an uninvited guest crashed the affair

Ebenezer Scrooge, permanently on the naughty list was not to be there

He said that a rules infraction had occurred, Rule 4-1 to be exact

Players may not have more than 14 clubs combined if they share in fact

Little Rita borrowing Great Grandma’s putter in this case was not allowed

A moment ago loud cheers, now suddenly a quiet hush came over the crowd

The penalty would revise the match by a maximum of two holes

Changing the outcome, a 1 up win for the boys, crushing the girls’ souls

Little Rita sobbed uncontrollably, but Great Grandma handled it with class

She pulled little Rita close to her and said, “Sweetheart, this too shall pass”

“For it was a match between loved ones, the best kind of all”

“The time together is what matters, not the triumph or fall”

The day of the centennial party came around at last

The guests traded stories of Great Grandma from a very distant past

Then Santa shared the final story, the Who’s Who carefully listened

As he recalled a special little girl from a century ago, Santa’s eyes glistened

Happy 100th Birthday Great Grandma Rita and merry Christmas to all!

DIRECTOR OF INSTRUCTION5 REASONS YOU NEED TO RE-THINK YOUR PRE-SHOT ROUTINE

The pre-shot routine is undoubtedly your most important tool on the golf course. From this moment on, I’d

like you to think of your pre-shot routine as the true measure of success for any shot you hit. You can’t

100% control the outcome, but you can 100% control what you focus on during your pre-shot routine. The

better the pre-shot routine, the better your chances of hitting a good shot. What’s important to remember is

that your skills are what they are on the course. You’re not technically going to be become a better player by

coaching yourself through better mechanics. You have to let go and focus on the things that are going to

help you most to produce fluid motion. The pre-shot routine is exactly what will help you do this and gain

access to the best skills you have.

The Golf Academy again will be offering an 8 lesson package starting November 1st for the price of $400 for members. Non-member price

for the 8 lesson package is $500. New to the winter lesson package? If you have never participated in the winter lesson special you will get

an extra hour added to the package! The lesson package will only be available for purchase by booking your first lesson by the end of

December and all lessons should be used by February 28th. Lessons packages will include a detailed plan of attack for overall golf

improvement with end of winter goals and objectives. Use of our latest technologies including V1 software, Boditrak, Flightscope, and

SuperSpeed Golf will be used during lessons based on each individual. Individual lessons are also available, rates are as follows: One hour

of instruction $60 for members and $70 for non-members.

What is the purpose of the pre-shot routine?1. To get you focusedIn between shots is for “switching off” and staying present.

“Walking meditation”, if you will. Relaxing your brain will help

you focus during your pre-shot routine. Your pre-shot routine,

is to remind you to get focused and ready for a great shot.

2. Make sure you pick the right targetThis one sounds obvious, but you’d be surprised at the num-

ber of playing lessons I give where the student forgets to pick

a very specific target. The questions to ask before each shot

is: “what is my strategy?” and “what is my target?” The small-

er the target the better.

3. Make sure you commitCommitment is a really important factor in a great shot. When

you are committed you are free from doubt (doubt does not

produce good golf swings). Use mental and physical rehearsal

to commit even further by playing the shot in your mind

before you play it for real.

4. Make sure you stay presentThe time in your pre-shot routine from when you start your

walk into the ball to when you start your backswing is a really

overlooked part of the pre-shot routine. You could have done

everything well up to this point, but you could easily undo it

by getting distracted by things such as where you don’t want

to hit it, or trying to remember what to think about during your

swing. What’s most important here is that you are able to stay

present, target focused with a quiet mind.

5. Make sure you switch off and acceptThe end of the pre-shot routine is the post-shot routine. How

well you are able to anchor good shots and stay neutral to

bad shots, can affect your mood and anxiety/tension levels.

Practice your pre-shot routineDuring your practice sessions, we need to work out what is

most important for us to focus on during our pre-shot routine

(for each player it’s different). Many golfers never actually

practice their pre shot routine, it’s just something they do

(inconsistently) on the golf course. Making this part of your

practice (during some competitive practice drills) is going to

help play better on the course.

THE CLUBHOUSE DRESS CODEThe Club seeks to promote a friendly relaxed atmosphere both onand off the Course. However, Members and visitors are remindedthat a reasonable standard of dress is required at all times. Below are

several guidelines on what can be worn at the Club.

KIDS

Shirts must be tucked in at all times, with the exception of

button down oxford and dress shirts. Golf and Polo shirts

are required to be tucked in.

Dress sandals are considered appropriate. Flip flops and

sneakers are not considered appropriate.Children 12 and under should adhere to the same dress

code as the adults with the exception of polo shirts being

appropriate untucked. Pullover hooded sweatshirts, tee shirts

with writing and images are not considered appropriate.

Jeans are considered appropriate attire. However, jeans

with rips and frayed edges (including ladies designer jeans)

are not considered appropriate. Cargo shorts and pants

are not considered appropriate.
