19. Briefly state historical mdlor archifectural importame (include dates. evmts. and psnons associated with fhe site.)

While the 1300 Block of Las Palmas has been badly eroded by new apartments, the 1200 Block is part of an intact neighborhood.which includes much of the surrounding blocks of Cherokee, June, and McCadden. These blocks were part of a neighborhood that was subdivided around 1905. Many of the.houses are typical examples of middle class housing before and after World War I. The 1400 Block of Las Palmas is an interesting mixture of twenties apartment buildings and early Colonial Revial cottages. Further intrusion into this neiahborhood bv commercialization could spell the end to the entire neighborhood. -

DESCRIPTION 7a. Architectural stvle: Egyptian Revival 7b. Briefly describe the presentphyrical description of the site or structure and describe any major alterations from its

?riginelcondition: A curious combination of Egyptian and Gothic Revival elements characterizes this one story court Two one story concrete buildings flank a cen- tral path with a raised lozenge dcsixn. Coved cornices in the Egyptian manner top each building. The corners of the sEructures are buttressed with dramatically tapered pylons. Similar pylons rising to coved hoods frame the entries to the in- dividual units. The tall and narrow windows consisting of casements capped by latticed, triangular transoms, suggest the Gothic; however, they may simply have been the builder's assumption of how windows in Egyptian buildings should appear. Intact, the court is sited amidst several mature trees. An altered wnodframe resi- dence of the American Foursquare type, is in the rear of the property.

Centered over the facade. an arched paraDet is embellished wirh plasterwork panels. The central emphasis continues on the second floor with a three sided cantilevered bay on decorated brackets and a recessed entn behind a scalloped arch on the first floor. The side bava are identical and contain a narrow and a flattened arch opening on the lower scory and a singlp casement and an arched tripartite window on the second story. A raised diamond pattern adorns the stucro becwc.en stories on the side bavs, and keystones punctuate the Larger upper level openings. Securitv grilles have been added to the building, which sits ar an angle to Las Palmes. It is otherwise unal.tered.
