HOLOGRAPHIC PROJECTIONS

What IS Holography?

Holography (from the Greek, whole + write) is the science of producing holograms(3-d images)

It is an advanced form of photography that allows an image to be recorded in three dimensions.

The technique of holography can also be used to optically store, retrieve, and process

information.

DENNIS GABOR

HISTORY

The Hungarian-British physicist Dennis Gabor was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1971 "for his invention and development of the holographic method

Developed because he was trying to improve the resolution of electron microscopes

After the invent of Laser , OPTICAL holograms were made

How Holography Works?

RECORDINGRECONSTRUCTION

Holography is a two-step

process.

First step is the recording of hologram

where the object is transformed into a

photographic record.

The second step is the reconstruction in which the hologram is transformed into

the image.

TOOLS REQUIRED

Laser : usually helium-neon (He-Ne) lasers, are common in holography

Beam splitter: This is a device that split one beam of light into two beams.

Mirrors: These direct the beams of light to the correct locations.

Holographic film:

Holographic film can record light at a very high resolution, which is necessary for creating a hologram.

It's a layer of light-sensitive compounds on a transparent surface, like photographic film.

RECORDING OF A HOLOGRAM

Page 8: Holograghy projections ppt

PROCESS

When the two laser beams reach the recording medium, their light waves intersect and interfere with each other. It is this interference pattern that is imprinted on the recording medium.

PHOTOGRAPY HOLOGRAPHY

Information can be recorded using normal light sources (sunlight or electric lighting)

2-D image

When a photograph is cut in half, each piece shows half of the scene.

Information can be recorded only through laser

3-D image

When a hologram is cut in half, the whole scene can still be seen in each piece.

Computer Generated Holograms

It is a method of digitally generating holographic interference patterns .

Printing the Interference Pattern on the film Illuminating it with a suitable coherent light

source .

Advantage:Objects which one has to show do not have to

posses any physical reality at all

CAPTURING OF A HOLOGRAPHIC VIDEO

By replacing the conventional holographic plate with a digital camera and an optoelectronic 2D screen, we can capture and display holographic video.

MR.NARENDRA Modi had first successfully used this 3D technology during his 2012 Gujarat assembly election campaigns. This innovative move through which Modi's speech was broadcast simultaneously at 53 locations across 26 cities in Gujarat has earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records

This technology was used by Prince Charles in 2008 for addressing the world future meredian , where hologram of earth was created

APPLICATIONS

MARKETING : It is used in advertisements to attract potential buyers

EDUCATION

ENTERTAINMENT : It is used in fiction movies like Star-trek, Star wars, Dhoom2.In musical industry holography can be in live concerts

Holographic optical elements are used for navigation by airplane pilots.A holographic image of the cockpit instruments appears to float in front of windsheil. This allows the pilot to keep his eyes on runway or sky while reading the instruments.

ADVANTAGES

A high resolution three dimensional recording of an object

Glasses free 3D displayNo need for projection screenLife like imagesInteractive display

Page 17: Holograghy projections ppt

DISADVANTAGES

Hard to see without good direct point source of light.

Not that bright. It is expensive. Require complicated precise machinery to

produce and view an image

Page 18: Holograghy projections ppt

Holographic Technology has endless applications, as far as the human mind can imagine

In future, holographic displays will be replacing all present displays in all sizes, from small phone screen to large projectors

CONCLUSION
