INVITE SOMEONE BACK TO CHURCH!!

DEAR PARISHIONERS: Last week in my column I talked about the Our Father prayer & how important it is to our lives of faith as Catholics. And I encouraged us to pray that prayer daily. So----in light of that, how is your prayer life lately? Would it be, as they say, “anything to write home about?” Is it going southward quickly? Or is it improv-ing day by day? Does the thought of your prayer life ever enter your mind? Is prayer something important to you as a Catholic, or just something you attend to when you need it or have time for it? At times I know I have to take a “prayer check.” I examine my life & see if I have grown in my life as a pray-er or whether I have let it slide. Sometimes it feels like I am on auto-pilot when it comes to prayer, or I am just sliding by. It is then that I try to renew myself by readjusting my schedule to make sure prayer is a priority. It is then that I pray about my praying, literally. I ask the Lord to fill me with new energy when it comes to being with Him in prayer. It is then that I do something in my prayer life, like trying a new form of prayer or one that I haven’t used in a while. I urge everyone reading this to take a “prayer check.” AS we have check-ups for our eyesight, heart, hearing, or general health, so, too, should we check up on our spiri-tual health---primarily our prayer life. Is it as healthy as it can be? If the answer is yes, great! Keep up the good work & stay spiritually healthy. If the answer is no, we need to come up with a plan to be stronger, healthier, & better conditioned in our lives as prayer-ers. Let us pray this week. May we know that if we are committed to exercising our prayer as much as we are committed to exercising our bodies, then we will live healthier prayer lives. YOUR PASTOR WHO PRAYS FOR YOU DAILY, FATHER JOE P.S. I have been asked about the removal of the trees in front of church along Franklin Street. All the trees re-moved had Ash Borer disease & needed to be taken out.

YEAR OF MERCY REFLECTION FOR July 30/31

Don’t be hard hearted. We have all heard stories of relatives who fight over an estate or a supposed inheritance. Luke recounts the Jesus parable of packing away so many possessions in order to “rest, eat, drink, be merry!” It is Jesus who said to the crowd, and says to us today: “One’s life does not consist in possessions.” On hearing Christ, the logical philosopher lays outs this syllogism: (1) Guard against all greed; (2) because life does not consist of possessions; (3) therefore, give away somethings, some time, some effort, some of self.

• What things can I give away? • What time and effort can I expend to another? • How will I reuse, use up, recycle?

ADORATION on Thursdays at Holy Family will resume in September!
