THEME: THE FAITHFUL GOD DEUT. 7:9
God's choosing of Israel was motivated by His love for them (Deut, 7:7-8). Moreover, God promised to faithfully
keep His covenant and show mercy to generation after generation of “them that love him and keep his commandments” (cf 6:4-9). Not only was God's love contigent upon this response of love and obedience, but
also their prosperity (v13-14), good health, (v15), and military success (v 16).
God promises to keep His commitments to His people “for a thousand generations” (Deut 7:9). He reminds them that He didn't free them because they deserved it or because they were the largest nation on earth, but
because He loved them.
Many people are facing hardships. You may be one of them. In fact, may be life itself has been nothing but one, long grueling hardship for you for as long as you can remember. I pray that something in this writing, and
indeed, in the course of discussing the theme of the year, might bring some comfort for you. There is little else in life that hurts as deeply as feeling as though God is not faithful.
Let's address the very MOST important issue regarding God's faithfulness. The Hebrew word translated
“faithfulness” means “Steadfastness, firmness, fidelity.” The opposite of being faithful is to be ever. Changing or wishy-washy. Faithfulness is an attribute of God. He is the definition of faithfulness in a sense. It is the nature
of God to be faithful and He is. Faithfulness is therefore a characteristic of the body of Christ and one that all Christians should have and practice.
Why should Christians or anyone for that matter, obey God? Why should we trust God and do what He says?
The answer to these and similar questions is simply that God is faithful. Because God is faithful, we van trust Him and therefore obey Him. We are confident in the times of trouble because we known that God is faithful.
The promises of God are real and his faithfulness will never fail us. We have nothing to fear as believers
because the power of God is always with us. Yet those words may ring hollow when you are in a crisis situation. You may be dealing with a serious illness for which there is no cure. You may be struggling with
financial difficulties and don't know where to turn. You may be suffering the pain of a broken marriage or relationship and have lost all hope for the future. Whatever the struggle, it can be hard to stand in your faith
when your circumstance seems hopeless.
We read in proverbs 24:10, “if you falter in times of trouble, how small is your strength;” The truth is that those who believe in the finished work of Jesus Christ have limitless power to defect anything that comes
against them. In IJohn 5:4, we are told that everyone born of God overcomes the world. The forces of evil cannot conquer a child of God. The devil himself knows that he is unable to harm a hair on your head, but only
what God permits. And God will only allow that struggle or pain for which He has prepared in advance to bring you through to victory. Each trial we endure is permitted to help us to develop the perseverance that we
need to stay strong in this life so that our faith may be proved genuine.
Christ did not suffer and die to lose the battle. His death paid the price for our victory and it connot be taken from us. It does not matter what trouble you may be expeciencing, God is willing and able to bring you
through it. He alone can turn a painful situation into something that will be used for good with a reward that will last forever.
Here then, is the crux of the whole matter; What God is looking for are people who will be faithful to HIM!
especially in the midst of their trials, like Job was. God may allow you to stay in the painful place you are in emotionally (and may be physically) until you determine within yourself to declare that God is faithful to me,
and that's the beginning and the ending of the matter!
GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS
1. Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
there is no shadow of turning with thee;
thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not;
as thou hast been thou forever will be.
Refrain:
Great is thy faithfulness!
Great is thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
all I have needed thy hand hath provided;
great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
2. Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
sun, moon and stars in their courses above
join with all nature in manifold witness
to thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
3. Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

BIBLE STUDY
9.00 A.M. – 9.45 A.M
TRINITY FOUR
30TH AUGUST, 2017
Theme: Prerequisites for healing the land Topic: Sincere Repentance and Confession. Text: II Chron. 30:6-16. Aim: i. grasp the true meaning of Confession and Repentance; ii. appreciate the significance of confession and repentance; iii. realise the role of confession and repentance in the healing of the land. Introduction Sincere confession and repentance mean doing an open acknowledgment of one’s wrongdoings andhaving a resolution to forsake them and turn to God (Prov. 28:13). According to II Chron. 7:14‘repentance’ is “turning from ... wicked ways.” It is a step beyond the confession of sins. It is theevidence of true confession. Repentance is returning to the good that was left behind or staying awayfrom the evil one had previously been engaged in. (This is what God requires of all who would becomeHis children), King Hezekiah gathered both Israel and Judah to renew their covenant of the Passoverwith God by confessing and forsaking their sins and those of their forefathers (II Chron.30:6-9).Those who obeyed had their lands healed. Study Guide 1. How will you describe sincere confession and repentance, II Chron.30:13-14; see also Ezra 10:10-12; Act 19:18- 20? What constitutes true repentance by God’s people? 2. Read Neh. 1:4 -11; 9:1-4. i) Why did the people in these passages confess their sins and even those of their fathers, Exod. 20:5, 6; Prov. 28:13; Psa. 32:5; I John 1:9? ii) What did they do alongside confession and repentance from sins (to show their seriousness and desire for a positive divine response)? See also Ezra 10:1, 14. 3. i) What attributes of God assure the truly penitent of forgiveness? II Chron. 30:9b; Joel 2:13; I John 1:9. ii) What results were the people of God to expect after genuine confession and repentance? II Chron. 30:9, 10; Isa 57:15. 4. What makes confession and repentance not to work? II Chron. 30:13-16; Joel 2:13. Conclusion Our land needs leaders with a broken and contrite heart, who accept and take responsibility for their sins, ready to forsake their evil ways and who equally commit their followers to do such so as to obtain God’s mercy and healing for their land. Genuine turning away from old and sinful ways has always been God’s requirement for a people to receiving God’s Healing for their land. Food For Thought Fake confession will not earn any people anything from God. Memory Verse - Psalm 32:5.

THE SPIRITUAL MAN
Galatians 5:16 I say, then, Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfil the lusts of the flesh. “The Spiritual Man” is the absolute and the standard in matters of spirituality – Jesus Christ. More so every true disciple of Jesus Christ is a spiritual man. Paul exhorts the Galatians to lead a truly Christian life that is a spiritual life under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and contrasts the vices of the flesh with the graces of the Spirit. The Bible in 1 Cor. 2:15, 16. He who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one. For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ. Permit me to tell you at this point that a spiritual man is not men pleaser but God seeker. A spiritual person has developed spiritual cognate. In our planning and decision making, do we seek God, and what His opinion is? Spiritual people consistently take God’s options into consideration in all they do. There is no doubt that perfection belongs to God, but our lives should reveal a pattern of including God in everything. Spiritual people connect present decisions with future consequences because they are mature. Immature people or a man who is not spiritually connected often fails to connect their present decisions with future consequences. They want gratification now. Their thought is for the moment and earthly. Children are like that. How often do we encounter a child who talks about saving money? However, we do hear children talk a lot about wanting to buy things. Because of their maturity level, they see only short-term consequences. Their view of the future is limited. Spiritual people have learned to perceive things from a divine vantage point. They have the ability to discern.
