HOSANNA! “Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; hosan-na in the highest” (Matthew 21:9). With these words the Church enters the holiest of weeks, commemorating the passion, death, and resurrection of Christ. When the people of Jerusalem cried out with their “hosannas,” they were using an ancient Hebrew shout of acclamation that meant “Pray, save us.” The king to whom they were shouting even-tually would save them, but in a way that would be far from what they expected. AUDIO DAILY READINGS

Visit: www.ourcatholicfaith.org/readings to hear the daily readings.

The Administrator’s Desk As we enter Palm (Passion) Sunday we are most likely not experiencing the joy of the Lord's victory entrance into Jeru-salem but rather his cross of suffering. We want the pandem-ic to end, we want to be able to leave our homes and meet with friends and family, or we want to be free of worry that we will get sick from work. The Lord God promises that he can and will bring greater good from any evil, even that of a pandemic, and He will! To help you grow in your trust of God at this time, I once again urge you to establish a regular daily worship and prayer schedule at home whether you are single or have a family. In anticipation of Sunday Mass, prepare an area in your home for worship. You may wish to include a chair(s), an altar or table with a candle and flowers and the Bible. Then locate a televised or livestreamed Mass or even a taped one nearest the time you normally worship. When Mass is on respond as you normally would, yes even out loud! Listen to readings and the preaching. Participate as if you were at that church in person. At communion, receive the Lord spiritually, by invit-ing him to come into your soul. If you do this, you will grow in the trust and knowledge that God cares for you at this time and will indeed bring much good out of the suffering we are enduring for his sake.

Palm Sunday Mass Livestreamed on Facebook

Because I have been feeling a little sick I may or may not livestream Mass this Sunday at 9:30 AM I will have a mes-sage on the parish Facebook page (Holy Family-Church Bay-town) early Sunday morning letting you know. If I don't, then please locate one on TV or another livestreamed one.

Picking-up Palms this Weekend

I will place palms on a table in front of the entrance to the Family Center this Saturday and Sunday during the regular Mass times: 5-7 PM Saturday, (9-11 AM Sunday and 12-2 PM Sunday). Please come at the time you normally attend Mass on the weekends. In order that we have enough for everyone I ask that you take no more than 2 palms for each person. You may pick some up for a homebound relative, too. Also, in light of COVID-19 concerns please minimize touching of the palms. Thank you.

REGULATIONS FOR FAST AND ABSTINENCE

Fast and abstinence are two common penances in the Church. Absti-nence means we do no eat meat. Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all the Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence. The obligation to abstain on the appointed days begins the day after your fourteenth birthday. Fasting means that we eat only one full meal on the fast day. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days when we are obliged to fast. Two other light meals are permitted, but eating between meals is not permitted. You are obliged to observe the fast from the day after your eighteenth birthday until the day after your fifty-ninth birthday. Pregnant women and people who are sick are not obliged to fast. Others who feel they are unable to observe the laws of fast and abstinence should consult a parish priest or confessor. Fast and abstinence are recognized forms of penance. By doing these and oth-er penances, we can realize that interior change of heart that is so necessary for all Christians.

soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were

already there and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen. ************************************

IGNITE PRAYER Our Faith, Our Mission

We give you praise and thanks for the gift of our Catholic faith and for more than 170 years of living and wit-nessing to that faith in Texas. We ask for your blessings upon our effort to help secure the future of the Church in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. May your people respond with hope and gen-erosity to our campaign, IGNITE: Our Faith, Our Mission. May the sacrifices we make together today bear fruit in lives of faith for gen-erations to come. We ask this through Christ Our Lord.
