The parish is slowly growing as young families and retirees are moving into St. Albert and joining the parish.

Can you play the piano, guitar or organ? Other instruments are also welcome! The keyboard accompaniment for our music resources needs either a grade 5 or 6 proficiency. Playing for Mass does require special skills and experience. This will include acknowledging the music ministry as having a servant-leadership role in the parish, knowing the liturgical cues, being able to accompany singers and improvise, and eventually knowing the musical, liturgical and pastoral judgement needed to select music for various celebrations. You will receive good mentoring! You can join an existing group or choir and apprentice with them, or you can be part of some new groups and choirs that are being formed. “Epiphany” means “manifestation”. It comes from Greek roots that mean “to show, to display” (phainein) and “on, to” (epi-).

This varies around the world.

The Epiphany shows that “the full number of the nations” now takes its “place in the family of the patriarchs”, and acquires Israelitica dignitas (is made “worthy of the heritage of Israel”) CCC 528.

Did you know that the Catholic Women’s League held its first meeting in Edmonton in November 1912 at the request of Bishop Emile Legal, OMI, who recognized the need for organized assistance for immigrant women that were arriving in our city. The Catholic Women’s League of Canada was organized nationally on June 17th, 1920 and granted federal incorporation on December 12th, 1923.

The league is officially recognized by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) as a lay association of women and is affiliated with the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organizations (WUCWO), a world-wide federation holding membership in the conference of International Catholic Organizations (ICO) and having consultative status with agencies of the United Nations.

The league’s objectives are:1. To achieve individual and collective spiritual development.2. To promote the teachings of the Catholic church.3. To exemplify the Christian ideal in home and family life.4. To protect the sanctity of life.5. To enhance the role of women in church and society.

8. To contribute to the understanding and growth of religious freedom, social justice, peace and harmony.

This weekend, we will be holding our annual membership drive and would like to extend an invitation to all women aged 16 and older to join this wonderful organization.

CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE (CWL) Singers are needed for new music

ministry groups in our parish. Three musicians – an organist and two pianists – have responded to our urgent need for music ministry. Now we need singers to join them!

- The Archdiocesan requirements for all parish volunteers – the attendance to the Called to Protect 2.5 hour workshop and completing some forms (application, covenant of care).

- A regular commitment of time - for practice and for your group’s ministry schedule.

If you do have a trained voice, if you sang in a school or church choir when you were young, if you have ever thought about being part of the music ministry at Mass, or if you appreciate the importance of musical leadership for public worship and believe that those who sing pray twice, please become part of one of the three new music ministry groups or choirs we are now forming in our parish!

The annual Men of Integrity Conference Your Divine Mission, will be held at Holy Trinity Parish in Spruce Grove from Friday, January 31st to Saturday, February 1st. The keynote speaker will be Deacon Larry Oney, a permanent deacon for the Archdiocese of New Orleans. He is the author of Divine Mission; Finding Your Hope and Purpose, Amazed by God’s Grace, and many other books. To help with the planning of this conference, please register early! Cost: $50 per adult, $35 per student, $75 per vendor and includes continental breakfast, lunch, coffee, refreshments and snacks.

MEN OF INTEGRITYCONFERENCE 2020

The World Day of Prayer is a global ecumenical movement led by Christian women who welcome you to join in prayer and action for peace and justice. The theme is “Rise! Take Your Mat and Walk” (based on John 5:2-9a). The women from Zimbabwe have prepared this year’s service through art, music and prayer. Can you play the piano, guitar or organ? Other instruments are also welcome! The keyboard accompaniment for our music resources needs either a grade 5 or 6 proficiency. Playing for Mass does require special skills and experience. This will include acknowledging the music ministry as having a servant-leadership role in the parish, knowing the liturgical cues, being able to accompany singers and improvise, and eventually knowing the musical, liturgical and pastoral judgement needed to select music for various celebrations. You will receive good mentoring! You can join an existing group or choir and apprentice with them, or you can be part of some new groups and choirs that are being formed. The Epiphany shows that “the full number of the nations” now takes its “place in the family of the patriarchs”, and acquires Israelitica dignitas (is made “worthy of the heritage of Israel”) CCC 528.

In some countries, Epiphany is a holy day of obligation. Where that is the case, it is celebrated on January 6th. In the United States and Canada, Epiphany is not a holy day of obligation, and its celebration is transferred to the first Sunday after January 1st.

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church the Epiphany is the manifestation of Jesus as Messiah of Israel, Son of God and Saviour of the world. The great feast of Epiphany celebrates the adoration of Jesus by the wise men (magi) from the East, together with His baptism in the Jordan and the wedding feast at Cana in Galilee.

Did you know that the Catholic Women’s League held its first meeting in Edmonton in November 1912 at the request of Bishop Emile Legal, OMI, who recognized the need for organized assistance for immigrant women that were arriving in our city. The Catholic Women’s League of Canada was organized nationally on June 17th, 1920 and granted federal incorporation on December 12th, 1923.

The league is officially recognized by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) as a lay association of women and is affiliated with the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organizations (WUCWO), a world-wide federation holding membership in the conference of International Catholic Organizations (ICO) and having consultative status with agencies of the United Nations.

This weekend, we will be holding our annual membership drive and would like to extend an invitation to all women aged 16 and older to join this wonderful organization.

CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE (CWL) Singers are needed for new music

ministry groups in our parish. Three musicians – an organist and two pianists – have responded to our urgent need for music ministry. Now we need singers to join them!

- The ability to carry a tune – you don’t have to have a trained voice, be able to read musical notation, or harmonize, although those abilities are a great help – but you do need to be able to sing on key and have a voice that can blend with others.

- The Archdiocesan requirements for all parish volunteers – the attendance to the Called to Protect 2.5 hour workshop and completing some forms (application, covenant of care).

- An attitude of service (not performance) reverence and the ability to work as part of a group.

If you do have a trained voice, if you sang in a school or church choir when you were young, if you have ever thought about being part of the music ministry at Mass, or if you appreciate the importance of musical leadership for public worship and believe that those who sing pray twice, please become part of one of the three new music ministry groups or choirs we are now forming in our parish!

MUSIC MINISTRY

The annual Men of Integrity Conference Your Divine Mission, will be held at Holy Trinity Parish in Spruce Grove from Friday, January 31st to Saturday, February 1st. The keynote speaker will be Deacon Larry Oney, a permanent deacon for the Archdiocese of New Orleans. He is the author of Divine Mission; Finding Your Hope and Purpose, Amazed by God’s Grace, and many other books. To help with the planning of this conference, please register early! Cost: $50 per adult, $35 per student, $75 per vendor and includes continental breakfast, lunch, coffee, refreshments and snacks.

MEN OF INTEGRITYCONFERENCE 2020

The World Day of Prayer is a global ecumenical movement led by Christian women who welcome you to join in prayer and action for peace and justice. The theme is “Rise! Take Your Mat and Walk” (based on John 5:2-9a). The women from Zimbabwe have prepared this year’s service through art, music and prayer. In St. Albert, the World Day of Prayer will be held at Holy Family Parish on Friday, March 6th at 2:00 pm. Please join us for this service.

We are entering into a new year and the future can be a bright one. In spite of the economic uncertainties, the parish is moving forward.

The Finance Committee will be preparing a year-end report within the next few weeks and a budget will be presented to the Parish Pastoral Council.

The $426,000 loan from the Archdiocese has been reduced by $146,000 and now stands at $280,000 thanks to your generosity.

Plans to celebrate the 40th anniversary are being considered and if you have any suggestions please contact the parish office.
