Seven 7th grade students were honored at the Awards Ceremony last week
for participating in the Duke University Talent Identification Program’s talent
search. This program identifies 7th graders based on standardized test scores and
invites them to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance exam. This then allows
them greater insight into their academic abilities. Ethan, Jimmy and Olivia K. re-
ceived special honors for their high scores on the ACT.

Dear Parents/ Guardians:
Yes, it’s true! We are now down to 3 1/2 school days until SUMMER vacation!! Eighth
graders graduated on May 12th, the school cafeteria is now closed, Field Day is Monday, Randy
Nadler will be here on Tuesday, there is still the Primary Spelling Bee, a Skating party, an OOU
Day, the last school Mass of the year, and a Talent Show before we call an end to what has been
a terrific year. Whew...after all that, we will need a nice, long break.
Please remember that we are still in need of many volunteers in order to pull off a huge
fundraiser for the school…..the GARAGE SALE! My challenge still stands…..10 hours of service
per family (adults only) for the year. Did you meet the challenge? Don’t worry if you didn’t.
There is still time to sign up to help. Check out page 6 for more details.
Yes, I did say it….the school cafeteria is now CLOSED and hot lunches will not be served
again until next school year. Please provide your child with a sack lunch and a non-carbonated
drink each day next week. Let’s have fewer children calling you to bring them a lunch! Save
yourself and your child the worry…..paste a note to your refrigerator or the door from which
you exit your house.
This Sunday, we celebrate Pentecost...the completion of the Easter season. It is also
called the birthday of the Church. On this day, the ascended Jesus sent the promised “Advocate”
by pouring the Holy Spirit on his disciples. The Spirit energized the disciples, showing them the
meaning of the Old Testament and how Jesus’ life and death fulfilled it. Just as important, the
Spirit empowered them for their mission, baptizing them with power to bring this truth to all
the people of the world.
We are so proud to be Holy Spirit Parish/School and to celebrate this special day togeth-
er. Wear your “red” to Mass!
Anyone else ready for the rain to go away?? Here’s hoping we see more sunshine and
beautiful days ahead this weekend.
Peace,
Michele Watson
