Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

In today’s Gospel, Saint Matthew offers a compelling vision of the end-time, when the people

of all the nations are brought before the Lord to give an account of their lives and actions.

Interestingly, the sheep, the righteous ones, are re-warded for having acted with love and compassion

without having recognized the face of Christ in others. Good stewards recognize those in need of their care as gifts from God. They know that they

are the instruments of Christ’s active, loving presence in the world. How will we treat others this week: our family members, neighbors, customers, strangers? What accounting will we make to the

Lord for their care?We would like to welcome all visitors and new

members to our Parish today. Registration papers are on the bulletin board.

Thanksgiving, Celebrating All God’s GiftsAs we celebrate Thanksgiving not only as a national holiday but also as a day symbolic for Catholics. After all, Eucharist comes from the Greek word, eukaristein, which means thanksgiving. The Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us that “Believing in God, the only One, and loving him with all our being has enormous consequencesfor our whole life: (3222). Then it adds that this includes “living in thanksgiving: if God is the only One, everything we are and have comes from him: ‘What have you that you did not receive?’ (1 Cor 4:7). ‘What shall I render to the Lord for all his bounty to me? (Ps 116:12): (#224)We celebrate Thanksgiving with readings from the scriptures and it should be celebrated with a deep sense of prayer, gratitude and joy as well as a day to remember that our lives are a continual thanksgiving in our daily activities. We should realized each day all the blessings that God has given us.The first Thanksgiving was in 1621 in Jamestown when the pilgrims gave thanks for their abundant harvest. In 1789, George Washington recognized an official holiday of “sincere and humble thanks.” In 1863, Abraham Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday of November as Thanksgiving, a national holiday.

A Churchwide oberservance of the Year of Consecrated Life will begin the weekend of Nov. 29-30 — the first Sunday of Advent is Nov. 30. It will end Feb. 2, 2016, the World Day of Consecrated life. The special year dedicated to consecrated life was announced by Pope Francis and is similar to previous themed years announced by Popes such as Year of the Priest (2009-10) or Year of St. Paul. (2008-09).The year also marks the 50th anniversary of “Perfectae Caritatis,” a decree on religious life, and “Lumen Gentium,” the Second Vatican Council’s Dogmatic Constitution on the Church. The purpose of the yearlong celebration, according to a Vatican statement, is to “make a grateful remembrance of the recent past” while embracing “the future with hope.”

St. Anne Crafts will meet Wednesday, December 10 at 1:30. Bring a dessert to share for a dessert tasting party. The recipe would be good to bring also. We will do a Christmas gift exchange so bring a gift that is something related to Christmas and is under $10.00.
