ORGANIZING A LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGN

1. Get students excited about an issue. Create a powerpoint to educate chapter members about a hot topic that is

currently impacting the profession of pharmacy. Discuss how legislation, currently being debated on the state or national levels,

can impact pharmacists in the local community. Help students members realize that their voices will not go unheard!

2. Send out an outline (such as the one below) for students to use in contacting their congressmen.

3. Show students how to access pre-populated letters on the APhA-ASP website. Go to www.pharmacist.com Login to the website (see below)

Click on the Get Involved drop down menu and select “Action” listed under Advocate (see below)

APhA’s Legislative Action Center will allow you to enter your zip code and have access to pre-populated letters on current issues that can be emailed directly to your elected officials: (see below)

4. Remind students to include personal stories about how they personally made an impact in patients’ lives.

5. Emails are the most effective and timely way to write your congressman.
