Marketing and Communications Manager
JOB DESCRIPTIONJob purpose:
The primary purpose of the Marketing and Communications Manager post is to: Develop, implement and evolve the organisation’s Marketing and
Communications Strategy and Plan, aligned with Cranstoun’s Business Plan Raise the Cranstoun profile, presence and voice across highly competitive
markets Develop a strong and consistent brand that is reflective of the organisation’s
vision, mission and values Improve internal communication channels to increase staff engagement and
advocate best practice in the use of these channels

Responsible for: Marketing and Communications
1. Strategic planning
Feed in to the business plan through the ongoing development of the marketing and communications strategy
Deliver against all areas within the strategy and work plan Undertake a quarterly review of the strategy and plan and determine
progress against objectives set Ongoing development of the MarComms ‘room’ on the staff intranet to
engender a culture of high quality local marketing, planning and use of resources, and to facilitate the professional development and agility of staff
2. Brand
Monitor and protect the use of the brand, providing advice and feedback to colleagues
Increase brand and service awareness (locally and nationally) Provide marketing support to local services, including raising awareness of
local brands and developing local marketing materials as required. Develop the brand experience and produce toolkits including templates,
guidance notes and policies to maximise and coordinate communications and marketing across Cranstoun
Engage in public relations activity including developing positive relationships with the media
Manage and endeavour to protect Cranstoun’s image and reputation, including crisis communications when required
Instil and communicate good marketing practice across Cranstoun

3. Communications
Grow our digital presence through managing and developing marketing and communications channels such as the website (and any affiliated websites across the Cranstoun Group) and social media channels (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube)
Manage and develop internal communications channels such as our staff newsletter, and the staff intranet
Support and coordinate communications to service users, commissioners and other stakeholders, incorporating Cranstoun’s vision, mission and values where possible
Write and proofread copy for a range of purposes including articles, newsletters, leaflets, reports, website and press releases
4. Development
Undertake market research and attend events to stay up to date on marketing and communications trends, particularly within the charity sector
Liaise and build relationships with a range of stakeholders at all levels (e.g. service users, suppliers and colleagues)
Support development activities to achieve growth and sustainability Support senior management in achieving the aims and objectives outlined
within the Business Plan Contribute to SMT and Board requirements around the Marketing and
Communications Strategic Domain (Business Plan)
5. General
Establish and maintain effective and appropriate administrative systems to support the Development and Innovation functions
Develop existing practices and systems within areas of accountability to meet organisational and functional needs
Input into wider projects and tenders, when requested Coordinate projects and events as required by the role or as determined
by the Director of Development and Innovation

PERSON SPECIFICATIONQualifications
Graduate or equivalent in related discipline Recognised marketing and/or communications qualification(s) (desirable)
Experience and knowledge
At least five years’ in a marketing and communications environment, ideally with some charity or related experience
Demonstrable experience in developing and maintaining a strong organisational brand
A track record of innovative marketing and communications development and delivery from strategic input to operational output
Communications experience across a broad range of channels, including use of social media
Experience of developing and managing a website, including knowledge of HTML and SEO
Experience of effective project management, including campaigns Experience of developing positive relationships with the press and media
(desirable)
Abilities and attributes
A ‘can do’ and ‘will do’ attitude supported by a creative, innovative and results focused approach
A confident and resourceful self-starter who can manage a diverse range of activities in a busy environment
Able to implement monitoring mechanisms, for example - track and report on social media and website analytics, including post-campaign analysis and lessons learned
Able to work flexibly on multiple projects simultaneously, achieving deadlines, targets and demonstrable results
A keen eye for detail in both written and creative output Ability to research and present imaginative design and communications
proposals Ability to produce informative and engaging content and materials for a
variety of channels and audiences Ability to relate to and manage productive relationships with a broad range of
stakeholders, working collaboratively with colleagues and supportive of team members
Good humour and a flexible approach to work
Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills Sound judgement and ability to handle competing priorities

Excellent IT skills, including MS Office, Adobe Cloud Package, digital platforms (e.g. WordPress and social media)
Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills Understanding, awareness and commitment to the promotion and support of
