The Nativity of the Lord
December 25, 2016 FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK:
Christmas Message from the Parish Staff
“A child is born for us, a son is given to us.” (Is 9:5) Today – Christmas Day – we celebrate the birth of Jesus which happened so many years ago. We love to sing the great songs and hymns that have been written over the centuries, such as, O Come All Ye Faithful, Silent Night, Joy to the World, O Little Town of Bethlehem, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, and so many more. Each hymn lifts the hearts of believers and non-believers alike, and reminds us what God has done for us. Today – Christmas Day – we celebrate the gift of hope. Jesus Christ is Lord – the only name under heaven by which anyone can be saved; there is no other – and his birth is our rebirth. The joy in Christmas is the fact that God’s love becomes flesh. God enters a sinful world in order to redeem it. The peace of Christmas is the reconciliation God begins in Bethlehem between himself and humanity. Today – Christmas Day – is a day to rejoice and to give thanks for the world has been changed for the better forever! Most importantly, hearts have been changed, and continue to be changed every day and every hour. Jesus Christ continues to heal the sick, give sight to the blind, makes the lame walk, the deaf hear and the mute speak, sets prisoners free, and raises the dead to life. For the believer who stops and prays, nothing can obscure the real meaning of Christmas. Today – Christmas Day – on behalf of all the staff here at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, we pray that all of you have a Holy and Merry Christmas. Thanks to all who have helped make our Christmas celebration possible, may God bless you abundantly! Enjoy and celebrate the twelve days of Christmas, Fr. Michael Cordier, Fr. Christopher Geiger and the Parish Staff Please pray for our sick and shut-in friends: Patty Mues, Levi Nause, Linda Smith, Scott Foulks, Kathy Workman, Michael Stormshak, Tommy Martino, Riley Lotz, Alice Munninghoff, Henrietta Wright, Lesley Spangler, Dennis Borntrager, Jennie Borton, Sharon Doll, Mary White, Tom Hall, Aimee Atkinson, Brittany Koester, Kate Meiners, Martha Lawver, Nancy Hickman, Eric Wicksell, Chris Dugan, Bessie Black, Clem Martin, Evelyn Mueller…and the intentions of our Parish Prayer Co-op. Readings next Sunday ~ Year A, pg. 40 Numbers 6:22-27 Psalm 67:2-3, 5, 6, 8 Galatians 4:4-7 Luke 2:16-21 Adoration Need We have a need to fill a time slot the fourth Friday of the month from 4:00 to 5:00pm for Adoration. The countless other blessings that God showers upon us are nothing compared to the gift of His only Son. The only appropriate way for us to respond to such generous love is with our own generous love. When we dedicate our lives to sharing all the gifts God has placed in our hands, the peace of Christ truly will control our hearts and we will know Christmas joy every day.
