Hello Everyone – Please be aware of the not so kind weather forecast that is looming tonight and

tomorrow. Snow and ice...Please be safe!

I learned at a Clinton County Health Department meeting yesterday that the rate of flu locally

increased by 37% within the last couple of weeks. They also reported that we are not even

near the peak of flu season at this point. Please, do not delay in contacting your physician if

you are experiencing flu-like symptoms.

I would like to introduce to you Brittany Albright. Brittany began her tenure as a Resident As-

sistant recently and comes to us with relevant experience. Also, I am delinquent in introduc-

ing Danielle Clukey. Danielle is also a recently hired Resident Assistant and we are happy

to have her on board. Welcome to the both of you and I wish you a terrific experience here.

Now that the holidays are over and she is no longer knee deep in

baking pies and other holiday delectable's, Natasha has brought

back our monthly upscale lunch! On Tuesday, she is offering a

T-bone steak with a baked potato and vegetable for $10.00. Bring your

bottle of wine (if you should desire) and join me for a grilled-to-order

juicy steak. Please let us know if you plan to partake so that we are

properly prepared.

The weekly bread for sale next week will be cranberry nut bread. I’ll bet this will

be amazing toasted for breakfast and great for a turkey sandwich! Simply place your

order with Natasha and three dollars later you will be enjoying a real treat.

Castaway will be performing on Wednesday the 17th at 4:00pm in the activity area. Please plan

to attend and enjoy one of our returning favorites.

As a reminder, we will be offering a trip to the Plattsburgh public

library on Friday the 19th. The van will be leaving at approximately

12:15pm. We plan to have you there by 12:30pm and will pick you

up at 1:30pm.

A Bit Of Humor

Senior citizen exercise program

I feel like my body has gotten totally out of shape, so I got my doctor's permission to join a fit-

ness club and start exercising.

I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down,

and perspired for an hour.

But, by the time I got my leotards on, the class was over

Now for some silliness.

Here is a few more of the Annual Darwin Awards. By the way, these accounts really hap-

pened!

A man walked into a Louisiana Circle-K, put a $20 dollar bill on the counter, and asked for

change. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, the man pulled a gun and asked for all the

cash in the register, which the clerk promptly provided. The man took the cash from the clerk

and fled, leaving the $20 on the counter. The total amount of cash he got from the drawer...$15.

(If someone points a gun at you and gives you money, is a crime committed)?

The Ann Arbor News crime column reported that a man walked into a Burger King in Ypsi-

lanti, Michigan at 5 am, flashed a gun, and demanded cash. The clerk turned him down be-

cause he said he couldn't open the cash register without a food order. When the man ordered

onion rings, the clerk said they weren't available for breakfast....the frustrated gunman walked

away.

Stay Warm, Mary Lue

Things To Know:

Next Wednesday, January 17th, Castaway will be here to perform at 4pm. He

has been here before and had a great performance.

Lake Forest has a wonderful staff and we don’t say that enough. Good Job!

Thank you Randy for all your hard work!

My view January 10th, when I first arrived at work. The sun coming up over the lake. I am so blessed to work here. Janet

Dear Lisa:

THANKS!

GRACIAS!

MERCI!

DANKE! or however one might wish to spell it!

We are all truly grateful for your painstaking, quiet, and caring attention to the details and

fairness of the residents’ holiday gifts to our staff, and for the many other ways in which you

have consistently made sure that every one of us is taken care of and that our voice is heard.

We will miss your leadership at our meetings, but we look forward to having you and Bill with

us here at Lake Forest for the foreseeable future.

From all of us, with love,

Sally

Walk 4,000 steps every day to boost brain function

Taking a short walk each day can help to keep the brain healthy, supporting

the overall resilience of cognitive functioning.

Could a walk in the park help to maintain cognitive health in old age?

As we grow older, memory problems can begin to set in. These could be a natural part of

aging and a minor annoyance, but in some cases, the issues may indicate mild cognitive im-

pairment and could even develop into dementia.

Regardless of how mild or severe these memory problems may be, they are definitely dis-

tressing and can affect an individual's quality of life.

New research from the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at the Uni-

versity of California, Los Angeles suggests that there is a relatively easy way of keeping

your brain in top shape as you grow older: take a moderately long walk every day.

This could boost your attention, the efficiency with which you process information, and

other cognitive skills, say first study author Prabha Siddarth and colleagues.
