Scripture Lesson

Through the gift and Power of the Holy Ghost

“Therefore not leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying

again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God.” Hebrews 6:1

“Nevertheless, they did fast and pray oft, and did wax stronger and stronger in their humility, and firmer

and firmer in the faith of Christ, unto the filling their souls with joy and consolation, yea, even to the

purifying and the sanctification of their hearts, which sanctification cometh because of their yielding

their hearts unto God.” Helaman 2:31

“Therefore, in the ordinances thereof the power of godliness is manifest; and without the ordinances

thereof, and the authority of the priesthood, the power of godliness is not manifest unto men in the flesh;

for without this, no man can see the face of God, even the Father, and live. Now, this Moses plainly

taught to the children of Israel in the wilderness, and sought diligently to sanctify his people that they

might behold the face of God;” 83: 3c-4a

“Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God, and

knoweth God. He that loveth not, knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of

God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through

him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his son to be the propitiation

for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at

any time, except them who believe. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected

in us. Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. And we

have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. Whosoever shall

confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. And we have known and

believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God

in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as

he is, so are we in this world.” I John 4: 7-13

VISIT THEME: The Altar of Sacrifice

The sacrifice of Christ teaches us to humble ourselves by giving up our sinful natures and to give our souls

in service to others as did He.

Broken heart and contrite spirit

“Wherefore, redemption cometh in and through the holy Messiah: for he is full of grace and truth. Behold, he offereth himself a sacrifice for sin, to answer the ends of the law, unto all those who have a broken heart and a contrite spirit; and unto none else can the ends of the law be answered.” II Nephi 1: 71-72

For God so loved the world, that he gave his Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on

him should not perish; but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to

condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:16-17

Guiding Thoughts:

• Christ gave His life as an example of what total sacrifice is. If we humble ourselves and

soften our hearts, open our souls to the Holy Spirit, we can strip away the layers of

ungodliness to come closer to the full sacrifice of Christ.

And now for a man to take up his cross, is to deny himself all ungodliness, and every worldly

lust, and keep my commandments. Break not my commandments for to save your lives; for

whosoever will save his life in this world, shall lose it in the world to come. And whosoever will

lose his life in this world, for my sake, shall find it in the world to come. Therefore, forsake the

world, and save your souls; for what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose

his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man shall come

in the glory of his Father, with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his

works. Matthew 16:26-30

So likewise, whosoever of you forsaketh not all that he hath he cannot be my disciple. Then

certain of them came to him saying, Good Master, we have Moses and the prophets, and

whosoever shall live by them, shall he not have life? And Jesus answered, saying, Ye know not

Moses, neither the prophets; for if ye had known them, ye would have believed on me; for to

this intent they were written. For I am sent that ye might have life. Therefore I will liken it unto

salt which is good; Luke 14: 34-36

Harmony and charity must prevail among all of those now called under the name of my

Remnant Church. Further obedience to the Celestial Law and the Law of Consecration is a

necessary requirement for the preparation of the Bride. D&C 151: 5a

The Latin word “laver” means wash basin. The English derivative this word is lavatory which is a place of washing. In the tabernacle it was at the bronze laver that the priests washed their hands and feet before entering into and coming out of the Holy Place. The laver was constructed from donated bronze mirrors of the Israelite women and filled with water for the continual cleansing of the priests as they ministered in the work of the Lord. In the Outer Court everything was bronze. Inside the Holy Place everything was gold as symbolic of God’s presence nearby in the Holy of Holies.

The Laver was located between the brass Altar of Burnt Offerings and the Holy Place. Before handling the animal sacrifices brought by the people, the priest would cleanse his hands and feet with water from the Laver. This was symbolic of the act of baptism. The purification of the priests in the water of the Laver was prophetic of the baptism of Christ Jesus, our high priest.

The Saints emulate the example of our Lord Jesus when He came to be baptized by John. Arising from the baptismal grave to a new life, every Saint is freed from the chains of sin and self. The gift of the Holy Ghost is then granted via confirmation as the covenant is fulfilled.

That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by

but that it should be holy and without blemish.” Ephesians 5:25-27

What is the law?

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” Matthew 22: 36-39

Guiding Thoughts:

• When questioned, Jesus gave the answer that there are two great commandments: love God, and love thy neighbor as thyself. At the end of the day, any explanation of the law centers around these two laws. Jesus said, “On these two commandments hang all the laws and the prophets.” Everything that has ever been given from heaven centers around following these two commandments. These complete the law.

Write it in your heart

“Wherefore, I said unto you, Feast upon the words of Christ; for behold the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do.” 2 Nephi 14:4

Scripture:

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you John 14:26;

In the beginning was the gospel preached through the Son. And the gospel was the word, and the word was with the Son, and the Son was with

God, and the Son was of God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made which was made. In him was the gospel, and the gospel was the life, and the life was the light of men; And the light shineth in the world, and the world perceiveth it not. John 1:1-5

Guiding Thoughts:

• Prayer, fasting, and study. It is not enough to attend a few church services every week. These services should feed us, yes, but there is personal effort that must be applied to ensure we have God's law written in our hearts.

• The world is awash in confusion in an effort to destroy the ability for the Church to build the Kingdom. The word MUST be written in our hearts. It must be in the deepest parts of our being that we will not be deceived –so that we will recognize God and that He recognizes us.

Grow the law in the body “And we did magnify our office unto the Lord, taking upon us the responsibility, answering the sins of the people upon our own heads, if we did not teach them the word of God with all diligence; Wherefore, by laboring with our mights, their blood might not come upon our garments; otherwise, their blood would come upon our garments, and we would not be found spotless at the last day.” Jacob 1:19-20

Guiding Thoughts:

• Writing the law in our own hearts is of no profit if we do it alone. We are members of a larger whole, and it is our responsibility not only for ensuring we ourselves are productive members, but we must help all those around us to be productive members as well.

• Most people spend less than 1% of their time in church every week. Writing the Word in their hearts is absolutely essential to the safety of the saint’s spiritual condition.

Jesus Christ is the Word. Writing the Word in our hearts is the essential step in growing your relationship with Him. You cannot have a meaningful relationship with Him if the Word is not written in your heart.

Onward to Zion

“Continue to seek the endowment you so eagerly look for, which will only come through the further sanctification of your everyday lives. I have blessed you thus far, my little flock, speaking concerning the membership at large, with many gifts and my Holy Spirit as you have followed the pattern in the restitution of my Church. Continue to be faithful, humble, and unified in your worship and service to me and, as promised earlier, my Zion will unfold before you. Thus saith the Spirit. Amen.” Doctrine & Covenants 147:5c-6b

Guiding Thoughts:

When we have followed these steps and have the law written in our hearts and are acting on it, the ultimate results of fully following God's law and having it written in our hearts is the building of God's Kingdom on earth, even Zion.

The Latin word “laver” means wash basin. The English derivative of

The scriptures teach that at birth the “spirit of Christ is given to every man.” Moroni 7: 14. When we reach the age of accountability, and accept Jesus as our Savior, we are baptized and receive a higher degree of the Holy Ghost. Our understanding increases to a deeper meaning of the light of Christ.

After we are baptized, we enter into the Holy Place. We “receive (a greater degree of) the Holy Spirit by the laying on of the hands of him who is ordained and sealed unto this power; and are sealed by that “Holy Spirit of Promise”. D&C 76: 5b&c This Holy Spirit is now much more available to us, to be used for our spiritual growth. It is the light of Jesus Christ –the Menorah, or lampstand – that is the only light in the Holy Place and it sheds the light that directs us on the straight and narrow pathway which leads us to the fullness of God’s glory. This path is the only way into the presence of God. It is not just by chance that Jesus taught this while standing in the Temple complex (John 8: 2&12).

This Holy Spirit of Promise is not another comforter, but a greater degree of the Holy Spirit. D&C 85: 1c-2a This “another comforter” is actually the Fullness of the Spirit which will abide forever in those who are worthy to receive it. Before we can receive this degree of the spirit, we have to prepare ourselves for it. This preparation will be received in the Temple and is often referred to as the Endowment. D&C 85:2b “This is the light of Christ”

Jesus told John the Baptist, an Aaronic High Priest, it was up to “us” Christ and John, to fulfill all righteousness, the Aaronic and Melchisedec ministry together. It requires the temporal and spiritual to come together for all righteousness to be fulfilled (D&C R-152:4a).

The Lampstand, Menorah, light shines on two other pieces of furniture in the Holy Place. The Holy Spirit, which is a part of the God Head, that carries out the plans and purposes and will of God on earth. It is this light that shines upon the table of showbread. It is this light that shows us “our daily bread”. Matthew 6: 12. This so that we can receive our daily spiritual nourishment that we require daily. We are fed by receiving the light that comes from our dedicated study of God’s word. It is a most important tool to be used to direct us in what we need to know at any particular time (2Nephi 14: 4).

The light also shines upon the Altar of Incense, which represents the prayers we offer up unto our Heavenly Father (Romans 8: 26-27).

D&C 76:5b-5c

“Early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and

taught them… Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world; he that followeth me shall

not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” John 8: 2&12

“Wherefore I now send upon you another Comforter, even upon you, my friends, that it may abide in your hearts, even the Holy Spirit of promise, which other Comforter is the same that I promised unto my disciples, as is recorded in the testimony of John. This Comforter is the promise which I give unto you of eternal life, even the glory of the celestial kingdom; which glory is that of the church of the Firstborn, even of God, the holiest of all, through Jesus Christ, his Son; he that ascended up on high, as also he descended below all things, in that he comprehended all things, that he might be in all and through all things, the light of truth, which truth shineth. This is the light of Christ.” D&C 85:1c-2b

Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts

knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of

God” Romans 8:26-27

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance; against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye must watch and pray always, lest ye be tempted by the devil, and ye are led away captive by him. And as I have prayed among you, even so shall ye pray in my church, among my people who do repent and are baptized in my name. Behold I am the light; I have set an example for you.” 3 Nephi 8:47-49

“Pray in your families unto the Father, always in my name, that your wives and your children may be blessed.

And behold, ye shall meet together oft, and ye shall not forbid any man from coming unto you when ye shall

meet together, but suffer them that they may come unto you, and forbid them not; But ye shall pray for them,

and shall not cast them out; and if it so be that they come unto you oft, ye shall pray for them unto the Father, in

my name; therefore hold up your light that it may shine unto the world. Behold I am the light which ye shall hold

up -- that which ye have seen me do.” 3 Nephi 8:52-55

QUESTIONS TO GUIDE DISCUSSION:

What is required of those who gather?

• Read together D&C 150:5-6

• Gathering is a formal process that requires coordination between the Saints and

the Church under the supervision of the Bishopric.

How will the gathering of the saints help build Zion? Can Zion be built without a gathering?

• Read Genesis 7:70-73

• Gathering of the saints is a fundamental requirement in building the Kingdom of

God on earth as it requires a city of sanctified believers for Christ to return.

How is community part of the gathering? Can you gather without community?

• Read 3rd Nephi 12:10-13

• Community is where we find expression of our beliefs and it allows the saints the

oportunity to practice, in harmony with eachother, the tenets of the celestial law.

“5 a. Jackson County, Missouri and the regions round about have always been and are still the designated

place for Zion, even the New Jerusalem. It is the designated area for The Gathering of my people.

b. According to law already given, adherence to the Law of Consecration is required alike of all those who

gather. The Bishopric are commended for their implementation of the consecration of my people thus far and

should continue pressing for compliance by all those who will participate.

c. Many in times past have come to the “Center Place” as a commitment to “gather” and as such should be

considered so. They occupy a place in Zion. However, since “laying all things before the Bishop” is a

requirement of the gathering and consecration, compliance with that law is required.

6 a. As an ensign to the world and a demonstration that man can live together in peace and harmony with his

neighbor, exercising stewardships, utilizing inheritances, and not being unduly influenced by Babylon, it is

necessary to provide for close community living. To that end, as it has been revealed previously at the Kirtland

Assembly of 2004, preparation for a community of my people should be developed utilizing land in Eastern

Jackson County. b. Let harmony and good will prevail, not only among those who are called to community

planning, but among all the Church members alike as the foundation of that Zionic endeavor, so long hoped

for, unfolds. c. Of necessity, it may be that some will remain in their neighborhoods outside of the community,

where they will be required to “leaven” those places they occupy within Zion.”

D&C 150: 5-6

“7:70 And righteousness and truth will I cause to sweep the earth as with a flood, to gather out mine own

elect from the four quarters of the earth, unto a place which I shall prepare; an holy city, that my people may

gird up their loins, and be looking forth for the time of my coming; for there shall be my tabernacle, and it

shall be called Zion; a New Jerusalem.

7:71 And the Lord said unto Enoch, Then shalt thou and all thy city meet them there; and we will receive them

into our bosom; and they shall see us, and we will fall upon their necks, and they shall fall upon our necks, and

we will kiss each other;

7:72 And there shall be mine abode, and it shall be Zion, which shall come forth out of all the creations which I

have made; and for the space of a thousand years shall the earth rest.

7:73 And it came to pass, that Enoch saw the day of the coming of the Son of Man, in the last days, to dwell

on the earth, in righteousness, for the space of a thousand years.”

Genesis 7:70-73

“12:10 And it came to pass that the disciples whom Jesus had chosen, began from that time forth to baptize

and to teach as many as did come unto them: and as many as were baptized in the name of Jesus were filled

with the Holy Ghost.

12:11 And many of them saw and heard unspeakable things, which are not lawful to be written: and they

taught, and did minister one to another; and they had all things common among them, every man dealing

justly, one with another.

12:12 And it came to pass that they did do all things, even as Jesus had commanded them.

12:13 And they who were baptized in the name of Jesus, were called the church of Christ.”

• Read together I John 2:1-2

• John used the greek word “Parakletos” (pronounced par-ak’-lay-tos) on 5 separate

occasions in his writings. The interpretation of the greek is: to be an intercessor, to be an

advocate, to be a comforter. John used the term to refer to:

o The role of the Holy Spirit

o Christ, Himself

o The attributes we are to demonstrate when we are one with Christ.

What is an accusor, Who is the accusor?

• Read Revelation 12:8-10

• An advocate is one who builds up and recognizes the good and the potential within

within someone.

How can you be an advocate? What does being an advocate have to do with the alter of incense?

• Read John 8:1-11

It is God’s desire that through Christ we become the “Tabernacle of God” thus fulfilling

Christ’s prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane that we all may become one as He is one

The Holy of Holies:

Entering God’s Presence

Page 14: HOME MINISTRY G - theremnantchurch.com · That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without

Veil

The veil was the final door to pass through to enter into the presence of God in the Holy of Holies.

Entry was forbidden to all except one, the High Priest, and his access was not free: he was permitted entry

once a year, on the day of atonement, when he brought the blood of a sacrificed goat to sprinkle on the lid

(called the mercy seat) of the Ark of the Covenant. The Veil reminds us that we are all excluded because we

have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God. The effect of the death of Jesus on the Cross was dramatic:

the earth quaked, rocks were split “and the Veil in the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.” This is a

picture to show us that it is now possible on the basis of faith in Jesus’ death for our sins, to stand in the

presence of God as a justified and forgiven people.

As we journey through the pathway of the Tabernacle we not only see a picture of the Lord Jesus but

we see a complete picture of the plan of salvation. The Tabernacle in the Wilderness is a perfect type and

shadow of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Ark of the Covenant

The Ark of the Covenant represents the throne of God. Within the Ark are three articles, the Pot of

Manna, Aaron’s Rod and the Ten Commandment Tablets. On top of the Ark we find the Mercy seat sprinkled

in blood.

Pot of Manna

“Then Jesus said unto them Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from

heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. I am that bread of life. This is the bread which

cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.” John 6:32, 48-49

Aaron’s Rod

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life; he that believeth in me, though he were

dead, yet shall he live;” John 11:25

Two stone tablets (Ten Commandments)

“For by the law is the knowledge of sin; therefore by the deeds of the law shall no flesh be justified in

his sight. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and

the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that

believe; for there is no difference; For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Therefore being

justified only by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus;” Romans 3:20-24

Mercy Seat

“Jesus Christ whom God has set forth to be a “propitiation” (mercy seat) through faith in his blood, to

declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;”

Romans 3:25

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

John 14:6

“But Christ being come a high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not

made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own

blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” Hebrews 9:11-12
