Big  Data  is  relevant  here  to  •  We’re  ge_ng  a  bit  fed  up  of  the  Big  Data  Hype,  yet  it’s  part  of  the  equaOon:  –  ExponenOal  growth  of  connected  devices,  – Unpredictable  usage  palerns  within  the  home,  

•  The  ability  to  first  capture  this  data  is  criOcal  !?!  •  It  must  then  be  linked  with  other  data  so  that  palerns  can  emerge.  

•  Number-­‐crunching  and  making  sense  out  of  petabytes  of  this  data  will  become  a  key  enabler  of  personalized  digital  services.  

•  OTT  players  have  an  edge  here.

In  the  end  •  A  pure-­‐play  OTT  operator  

–  is  more  agile  without  hardware  in  people’s  homes  –  may  have  global  reach  and  be  beler  at  Big  Data,  

•  but  is  is  useful  to  learn  how  Americans  behave  to  beler  serve  the  Saudi  market  for  example?  

•  A  Telco  or  a  CableCo  –  Has  local  presence  

•  customer  support  –  Provides  the  home  gateway  

•  Must  bear  the  cost  and  cumbersome  maintenance  •  can  monitor  proacOvely  within  the  home  (TR111)  •  can  troubleshoot  

•  The  balle  for  the  home  was  about  viewership,  ARPU  and  churn,  OTT  will  also  make  it  about  freedom  and  ubiquity.  

The  fact  that  there  are  many  devices  in  the  home  doesn’t  imply  there  is  money  to  be  made  out  them  all  (HIS)
