2019Introduction Professionals, whether they are working in the sciences, business, engineering, information technology, health or education, typically work in teams to complete projects. This course introduces and examines the technical and socio-cultural dimensions of Project Management. Students experience all aspects of the Project Life Cycle through the completion of integrated unifying course content.Thus this short course will develop the competencies and skills for planning and controlling projects and understanding interpersonal issues that drive successful project outcomes. Focusing on the introduction of new products and processes, it examines the project management life cycle, defining project parameters, matrix management challenges, effective project management tools and techniques, and the role of a project manager.And thus guides trainees through the fundamental project management tools and behavioral skills necessary to successfully launch, lead, and realize benefits from projects in profit and nonprofit organizations. Successful project managers possess the skills necessary to manage their teams, schedules, risks, and resources to produce a desired outcome. The trainees will explore project management with a practical, hands-on approach through case studies and In-class exercises. A key and often overlooked challenge for project managers is the ability to manage without influence; to gain the support of stakeholders and access to resources not directly under their control. Special attention is given to those critical success factors required to overcoming resistance to change.

In a nutshell, this short course training develops a foundation of concepts and solutions that supports the planning, scheduling, controlling, resource allocation, and performance measurement activities required for successful completion of a project.

Learning outcomes:

On successful completion of the course, trainees will be able to:

1. Demonstrate acquisition of the knowledge and skills of Project Management based on the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK);

2. Indicate the importance of both socio-cultural and technical issues in the successful management of a project;

3. Apply modern project management techniques and tools within professional areas of expertise.

Prerequisite experience: None.Training Duration

Registration: one month (November) Course delivery: Four days (5th, 12th, 19th, 26th December, 2019Thursdays)Contact hours: 16 hours (4 hours a day)Delivery hours: 4PM – 8PM

Learning EnvironmentAs every smooth knowledge-delivery session requires, this training course requires a calm setting. A training hall will be used for better interaction and convenience. The hall will have mobile chairs and desks. This will enable the training activities, trainees’ mobility and visibility.

Training FeesParticipants will have to pay $40 for the training and certification. The amount should be prepaid to University of Hargeisa’s Bank accounts (Dahabshiil: 1006/Darasalam: 60007776). Only after that, a training participant can be registered and considered admitted for the short course.

About the TrainerMohamed Sulub is the Corporate Communication director of University of Hargeisa. He has an extensive experience of projects planning and management both in practice and theory. He coordinated several projects for University of Hargeisa; among those was Ogaal Xal-Reeb (Knowledge for change) Project in the Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies. Prior to his current position, he worked at OCVP as a senior researcher and translator. He is also regular lecturer at University of Hargeisa and several other esteemed Universities in Somaliland and Somalia. Finally, Mohamed Speaks three languages; Somali, English, and Arabic fluently and capable of understanding Amharic language.Areas of expertise: Projects Management, Marketing, HR, Organizational Management and Development, Social Research, Communication and PR

CertificationAfter successfully completing this short course, the trainees will be certified with a certificate of completion, indicating the contacted hours.

Training Methodology and ResourcesFor an effective teaching learning, the trainer will use projector, projects-based activities, experience sharing as well as case studies. The trainees will receive training package before the training commencement.
