Blending contemporary and modern elements with a touch of
“retro,” this lovely Cabin combines beautiful views of Martis
Valley and the Sierra Crest with fresh and cheerful interiors. The
delightful ambiance off ers the perfect touch of sophistication
blended with playful, fresh colors. Combining unique textiles
and tones, every room in this 3,250 square foot enclave
blends a wonderful color palate creating a happy and cheerful
environment.
Thoughtful architectural elements in the kitchen create an
upscale yet understated entertaining environment. The open
fl oor plan is accented with hickory fl oors and custom designed
rugs creating a distinct color pale e in each room. In the bistro
style kitchen, reclaimed walnut countertops accented with Ann
Sacks tile, Kallista One faucets and custom cabinetry designed
by Truckee River Sash and Door lend sophisticated touches while
the butler’s pantry allows readiness for guests. Accenting the
changing mountain season hues, the owners created a custom
lighting system utilizing Lutron illumination technology with
modern chandeliers from San Francisco’s Coup d’etat. The low
profi le furniture off ers sleek lines and geometric pa erns blending
the beautiful surroundings with a contemporary lifestyle.
The well-designed four-bedroom layout provides privacy
and space. A favorite of all, the children’s room with dual bunk
beds and accents of teal, citrus and aquamarine, combine great

off ers lovely views of the Sierra Crest creating a serene and
relaxing environment.

Bringing the East Coast to Tahoe, this “maple leaf” style home
refl ects the blend of mountain architecture and a touch of
sophisticated Cape Cod, creating a warm and gracious ambiance.
As you approach the home from the sweeping driveway, the
walls of windows create a welcoming yet traditional appeal to
this beautifully designed enclave. Accenting East Coast design
fl air, the traditional interiors of this home create a sophisticated
and inviting environment. The clean design lines, primitive motif
accents and rich, crisp color creates a well grounded background
to the large scale and beautiful architecture of this estate nestled
in the woods.
Designed to accommodate a large and extended family,
this home provides lovely views of the forested landscape and
mountain range beyond from each of the distinct living areas.
The gracious entrance leads past the formal dining area to a
step down living room highlighted by walls of windows and
double sided granite encased fi replace. Adjacent to the living
area, the open fl oor plan kitchen with leading chef’s appliances
and built in dining banque e provides casual dining or easy
entertaining for a crowd. Seasonal indoor – outdoor dining on the
covered patio evokes the East Coast traditions and architectural
infl uence. Through the water pane glass encased door, visit the
subterranean wine cellar which hosts the owners’ extensive
collection in a temperature controlled environment. You’ll enjoy

an intimate collection of family photos and mementos to create
the legacy of family and all its memories.
Accented by lovely forest views, the master suite combines
an intimate si ing area with gas fi replace for a comfortable escape
or relaxing a ernoon. The sleeping area and spacious en-suite
bath with ample closet space is nicely positioned, creating an
understated elegance. Unique and functional in design and fl ow,
three upstairs family suites highlight a central family room with
built in bulkheads, workstation and bookshelves. Well designed
to provide privacy and comfort the central family room area is a
natural gathering place. Warm and friendly this special area awaits
the family. Separately, the “apartment” provides the perfect in-law
or “au pair” suite for extended vacations with comprehensive living
quarters. The well proportioned living area and effi cient kitchen
is accented by wide planked fl oors and a wonderful en-suite
bedroom with mountain views ensures every comfort.
Designed with a sophisticated blend of East Coast meets
mountain architecture, this gracious home is warm and welcoming.
Evoking a sense of history and memories, you’ll readily feel the
true sense of family bonds… today and for generations to come.

Martis Camp Home Tour 2011 2322 Martis Camp Home Tour 2011
The owners of this contemporary fi ve-bedroom home started out
with some pre y simple requests of the architect, Greg Faulkner.
They asked for a modern house with a lot of light and something
somewhat understated.
To accomplish what the clients wanted and also take inspiration
from the surrounding wilderness, Faulkner designed an H-plan
with transparent walls of glass and forms sheathed in weathering
steel and COR-TEN. One side of the H-plan is the public living
area and the other side is the private wing with the bedrooms. A
glass connection space in the middle houses the kitchen and the
entry. Since people always love to gather in kitchens, positioning it
in the center of the H serves as a bridge between the two wings so
that everyone passes through.
The upper fl oor of the private wing is an amazingly effi cient
space – four full bedrooms, each with a private en-suite bath, run
along an open hallway. The master bedroom suite, on the fi rst level
of the private wing, has a private outdoor seating area to enjoy
views of the adjacent forestland.
To temper the rough and raw materials used in the
architecture, interior designer Judy Weirick so ened the living
spaces with tone on tone colors, so leathers and so rugs and
not too much contrast. In the living room an A. Rudin sofa and two
armchairs covered with custom Kravet fabric help off set the glass,
steel and concrete.
The contemporary design of this home does more than just
capture the a ributes of the site. The warm weathering character
of the COR-TEN blends in with the warm colors found in nature
but it also helps protect the home from wildfi res and it needs very
li le maintenance.
In the words of Greg Faulkner, “I think modernism gives you
more tools to use; you’re not hemmed in by pitched roofs and
traditional moves. You can really build something that’s connected
to the land.”

The home perches with European mystique high above the street
below. The anticipation of the unexpected builds as you mount the
long, curving driveway. This home is not your typical Tahoe rustic
cabin, but more of an Austrian lodge nestled into a hillside. Martis
Camp’s encouragement of its owners to create homes born out of
their own personal dreams is leading to some stunning personal
expressions and a soaring variety of magnifi cent architecture.
This home on Valhalla, one of the fi rst completed in Martis
Camp in 2008, is case-in-point. Measuring over 8,000 square
feet, the home rekindles fond memories for the owners of their
honeymoon spent in Kitzbuhel, Austria.
As you pass under a curved eyebrow dormer, then through
the grand front door, you are transported further into Old World
Europe. Massive, thick walls, specially designed Sierra Pacifi c
Windows and a barrel-vaulted ceiling evoke the sturdy ski chalets
of the Alps.
Rather than centering on a large great room, this home features
smaller, formal living spaces. The owners themselves designed
the striking interior of this home. Cream colored plaster walls,
exposed dark stained beams and mahogany windows set off the
dark woods and rich fabrics of the family room furniture. Large
windows capturing natural light and sweeping, peaceful views
dramatically enhance the living and dining rooms.

8395 Valhalla Drive In the stunning, state-of-the-art kitchen an enormous
Lacanche oven reigns. The countertops are cast pewter, cabinets
are clear fi nished walnut, and the fl oors are limestone.
Surprise and mystery unfold as you meander through the
many enchanting rooms, from a brightly colored “tree house”
room to a secret playroom hidden behind a bookcase and the
wine cellar reached by a three-story elevator. The owners of this
home have found the perfect way to share their fondest Austrian
memories with their children and grandchildren.

On a forested plateau above Martis Creek and with incredible
views of Northstar’s ski runs, Camp Bovone unites great views,
warm sun, and family fun. Located roughly between Martis Camp’s
Family Barn and the Martis Camp chair li , this 5,800 square foot
home acts as a hub for adventures near and far throughout the
Tahoe area.
The architect’s design intent was to create a home that
is comfortable, durable and intimate - and so capable of hosting
celebrations and family gatherings while retaining a sense
of scale that is comfortable for the parents and their three
children. The architecture is a celebration of the rustic heritage
of Tahoe vernacular, blending a sense of elegance and simplicity
in the detail.
A stone base visually grounds the Camp Bovone’s composition,
giving it the eff ect of permanence and that it has grown from
the earth itself. Large expanses of glass, broken into traditional
proportions, give access to sunlight and views while steeply-
pitched shingled roofs create a sense of welcome shelter. The
design draws on a pale e of materials and forms that are steeped
in the architectural traditions of the Sierra Nevada, illustrating
concepts of Lodge, Home and Family simultaneously.
The design blurs the line between indoor and outdoor spaces
using multi-panel sliding doors to make walls virtually disappear.
Reclaimed oak fl ooring, used in the interior, is also used as the
exterior decking, allowing the sense of space to extend beyond the
door threshold. Douglas fi r, reclaimed from the Great Salt Lake,
is used on walls and ceilings inside and outside, furthering the
goal of linking the two and showcasing the home’s environmental
responsibilities.
While the sleeping spaces are zoned for privacy, with private
master and guest suites separated from each other and from the
kid’s rooms upstairs, the social and entertaining spaces bring the
family together. A large four-sided stone fi replace acts as the heart
of the home, tying cooking, eating, and living spaces together and
providing optional social spaces for large gatherings.
With an incredible site, a family-friendly fl oor plan, and forms
and materials that are as familiar as the mountain landscape that
they complement, CampBovone shows how a new home can fi t in:
simply, beautifully, elegantly.
