La cantidad de filtrado glomerular que se forma por minuto en todos los nefrones de ambos riñones se denomina índice de filtrado glomerular y corresponde a unos 0.125ml/min. De esto inferimos que cada 24hrs se filtran aproximadamente unos 180 litros de sangre.

Sustancias filtradas: La composición del líquido que pasa a la cápsula de Bowman es casi idéntico a la composición del plasma sanguíneo, excepto por las células y las proteínas plasmáticas, que no son filtradas y permanecen dentro de los capilares

Entre los componentes filtrados encontramos:- Agua- iones (sodio, cloro, potasio, etc.)- glucosa-aminoácidos-desechos nitrogenados (Urea, amonio, ácido úrico, creatinina, etc.)

Los desechos nitrogenados
provienen de la degradación de
aminoácidos o de algunos ácidos
nucleicos (purinas)

Entre los componentes filtrados hay sustancias útiles al organismo, como agua, iones, glucosa, aminoácidos, etc., los cuales el organismo no se puede dar el lujo de desechar.

Por esto, en la formación de orina tiene lugar un segundo proceso, denominado REABSORCIÓN.

REABSORCIÓN.
La reabsorción tubular es un proceso que ocurre en los túbulos renales, por los cuales una gran cantidad del filtrado del plasma, que se formó en el glomérulo, es reabsorbido hacia los tejidos y la circulación, con consumo de energía. Por ejemplo, en el túbulo proximal se reabsorbe gran cantidad de agua, toda la glucosa y gran cantidad de aminoácidos que se filtraron por el glomérulo, por lo que la orina no debe contener glucosa en condiciones normales

SECRECIÓN
Es la última etapa, y en ella tiene lugar la eliminación de sustancias desde los capilares peritubulares
hacia el túbulo renal. Normalmente está sometida a control hormonal.
